View Full Version : Prayers for the Departed

Orthodox Andrew
14th February 2004, 10:17 PM
This thread is to pray for the departed. You should list the names of whom you wish to pray for. There is absolutely no debates allowed in this thread. This is a place for prayer only.

Into thy hands, O Lord, I commend the souls of thy servants (Name(s), and beseech thee to grant them rest in the place of thy rest, where all thy blessed Saints repose, and where the light of thy countenance shineth forever. And I beseech thee also to grant that our present lives may be godly, sober, and blameless, that, we too may be made worthy to enter into thy heavenly Kingdom with those we love but see no longer: for thou art the Resurrection, and the Life, and the Repose of thy departed servants, O Christ our God, and unto thee we ascribe glory: to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Dear friends,

Today [April 30, 2004], Fr. Thomas Davis, assistant priest of St. Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church in Brier, Washington, and the priest spearheading our new Antiochian mission in Snohomish, reposed in the Lord today in his sleep. He had been in ill health for at least two years.

Please remember him in your prayers, as well as Khouriya Miriam, and children
Jenny, Eric and Jon.

I am mourning the loss of my father confessor and spiritual guide, as well as
the one who was in the process of making our dream for a new parish in
Snohomish become a reality. Please remember our mission in your prayers as well.

Subject: Prayer Request - Memory Eternal

Dear Friends:

I just heard the sad news of the passing of Priest George Romley - former pastor of St. Mary's parish in Hunt Valley, MD (Antiochian diocese). He was a very kind man - and one of the two priests who led a trip to the Holy Land I took 10 years ago. May his memory be eternal!

Please pray also for his son Nicholas and his wife Theresa.

In case any of you knew Fr. George: The viewing will be held at Ruck funeral home on York Rd. in Towson MD this evening from 5 -7 p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday at St. Mary's at 10:30 am.

Blessings,
Irene

Here's a message I received from Panagiotis:

Dear all,
At the age of 100, Theodoylos Kallinikos, Arhon Protopsaltis of the
Most Holy Church of Cyprus, fell asleep in the Lord . Despite eyesight
problems he kept on chanting virtually until his death.
When I had been studying in London I met
several cantors that had studied byzantine chant under Kallinikos.
Memory eternal!

This is both sad and joyful news. He has been anticipating his death for some time now and finally he has finished the race. It has been a while since I have lurked on Monachos.net but I always appreciated his wisdom and steadfast faith. He will be greatly missed and I thank God for gracing us with his presence on the Internet where our passions so often seem to get the better of us.

Please pray for the soul of the newly-departed Ralph Geeza. He recently

Ralph was a prominent in the Orthodox Church and had been active in many

I've just received word that an aquantence of mine died last night. She was 28 yrs. old. She had suffered from numerous health problems since childhood and has had several failed kidney transplants over the years. Nonetheless, it is always tragic when someone so young dies. Her name is Liberty. Please pray for her soul. I used to go to the same church she went to.

Well, it's me again. My sister-in-law's cousin Michelle passed away today. She was only 33 yrs. old and leaves behind two young children and a husband. She had some heart problems, but recently her Dr. had told her it was okay for her to begin some moderate exercise. Well, she colapsed while trying to exercise, was in a coma for a couple days, and passed away today. Please pray for her and her family. I can barely fathom the pain they must be feeling.

Memory eternal to Father Michael Graves

This email just received:

Date: Thu Nov 25, 2004 6:18 pm
Subject: Re: Fr Michael Graves

It is true that Fr. Michael Graves is dead. I asked someone who
has been in contact with him the minute I read Jerjis's post. He
to was shocked but managed to get the news from Fr. Michael's
sister, Mrs Ann Meilli.Fr.Graves sustained a massive heart attack
and was found within a very few moments by a resident of
Maison Orthodoxe, a trusted helper, who heard him fall to the
floor in the bathroom. That person telephoned Dr William Patrick
Mears, of St Lawrence Orthodox Church, Felton, CA, a supporter
of Fr Michael's work, and it would seem that the lack of response
from Fr Michael after his physical collapse points to a rapid
cessation of brain function and thus a peaceful and rapid death.
Fr Michael was not 75 but barely 70 at the time of his death.

I only know of Fr. Michael from what I have read on the Internet
and he was a very courageous man of God. may his memory be
eternal.

He was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer this past summer, and, despite two operations, died at home on Tuesday. No one in the family was told about this.
