Are the parables taught by Jesus relevant for us today? The parable of the sower, the good samaritan, the guests at the wedding? All were told with certain relevance to the times, and place. But do they speak to us in this day and age?

I think that the lesson behind the parables will always be relevant and helpful. I think the difficulty is interpreting the proper lesson. The whole point of the parable was to give a lesson in the form of an every day example that people could understand. The problem is that the parable was designed for a completely diffirent culture so sometimes it can be difficult to understand the true meaning. Some of the parables are still easily interpreted today, but I have read some of Jesus' sayings in the bible which make no sense to me at all. I think there is good meaning there, but that it has just been lost in the cultural translation and context.

I think they are all very relevant today, their sort of timeless. Sure there could be better examples used today to prove the same point, but that doesn't make the ones in the Bible any less relevant. It can be hard to understand sometimes, but the lessons there are still lessons many people today need to hear.

They're always relevant - they hold true messages. Some could have their details altered for the times (a lot of emphasis on agriculture in Jesus' parables) but it would not change them in their essence. The Lord's parables are perfect.

I'm not sure on this one. They teach good lessons but some of them apply to the Jews and Gentiles. It all depends on the meaning you get out of it. I haven't studied the parables but I will now after I study evolution and free will and all those other tough questions.

Oops i tihnk I messed up, that was supposed to be my title...anyways.
How could anypart of the Bible not be important. The Bible is God's infaliable Word. The "specific" application Jesus was teaching about with doesn't apply to us. But when you study God's Word you look deeper then the surface, you study and get principles. Prinicples are timeless truths. Timeless being the key! When you have a principle it doesn't matter what era you live in. You can ALWAYS get an application out of a principle.

I voted not sure. Some of them may be relevant today and some may not be. I honestly don't know for sure as I haven't studied the topic very thoroughly.

Everything in the Bible can relate to us now.
No intention of being offensive here, but when was the last time you took the Old Testimant methods of purification for a period? Not everything in the Bible is relevant to everyone, especially those things in the OT.
But I believe that all of Jesus' parables are applicable today.

Yes, but I live in a rural area so I relate well. For those that don't have that background it doesn't take much background information for the parables to be relevant. There is very little we know that doesn't come as the result of know other facts.

Certainly they apply to today. For some of them though, you kinda need to understand the customs back then.

If you know how to grow your own food, you should be able to understand the parables.

The examples may need to be changed around to make it more understandable, but then Jesus wasn't trying to be understood.

I said they were relevant for that day and age... I'm sure that if Jesus were around today, He'd be still talking in parables, but more about dot.com or low fat atkins sort of stuff.

Are the parables taught by Jesus relevant for us today?
Yes,They were relevent then, now and for all time.Like the parable of the ten virgins,Which talks about no one knows the day nor hour of Christ return,so always be prepared and anyone who does not have the holy spirit (oil represents the Holy spirit,Bridegroom represent Christ, and the banquet represents Heaven) in them will not make it into heaven.God Bless
