I feel like I just answered this in the women's section.
He is my hero. The love of my life. The one who knows me better than anyone. The one who loves me better than anyone. He is the one who took the blame and the shame for everything I have ever done....to have me as His own. He puts up with way too much from me, and recieves way to little. But yet, still He loves me. Why? Who knows. I won't argue.

In our tradition, God has been described in many metaphors throughout the Bible, but they all seem to express themselves in two models--images of God as lord, king or father (leading to a perfomance model of Christian life) and images of God that point to relationship and belonging (leading to a relational model of Christian life).

Both of these ways of seeing God represent two distinct voices within the Christian tradition distilled from multiple Scriptural metaphors, some of which have been God as king, warrior, judge, builder, gardener, shepherd, mother, wise woman, woman giving birth, eagle, lion, rock, breath--the biblical list is staggering in its diversity!

I prefer a God in the relational model and I try to be constantly aware that God is so far beyond my human idea of God that I would be arrogant indeed if I could always know what God's specific agenda is. Fortunately, I am a Christian and have Jesus to experience.

Some people in the first century and some people in the 21st century have said the following about Jesus:

He is god, let's follow him.
He is dangerous, let's kill him.
He is crazy, let's ignore him.

They all saw the same human being, yet came to different conclusions. As a Christian, I believe that Jesus showed the divine on earth. He is the only one I know of who lived such a life that 2,000 years after he lived people still call him "Son of God." In other words, this is what God would be like if he came down to earth to live among us.

My experience of God? An ineffable expression of Love, Justice and the Reality behind our puny "reality."
