October first my Church (Church Of God) is having a special service to pray for the peace of Isreal. Im supposed to help choreograph part of the service. We are going to make a star of David out of silver ribbon with people holding all sides but im in charge of making the dance part on the sides...The song is Shalom Jerusaleum. Any suggestions...would it be appropriate for us to cover our faces just so we know what Jews do? I need help....Thank you all... May God Bless You all, Celine:kiss:

Shalom Celine :)

Just wanted to ask: Did you mean "cover our heads" instead of "cover our faces"?

Jewish women often cover their hair, but not the face -- that is more a Muslim behavior if i recall correctly.

Here is a picture of Messianic dancers. As you can see they are modestly dressed and do have a partial covering on their heads or it is pulled back. The idea would be to be in a worshipful way and not to be "attractive" such as if long hair would be freely flowing and be enticing.

http://endtimepilgrim.org/messianicdance3.jpgIt is good to hear that your church is supporting Israel when it is not the "in" thing to do in alot of churches recently. :(

We never wear our hair down its usually up or in a ponytail but for this we may just cover our heads. And yes it is so sad how people arent supporting Isreal...it breaks my heart. My dancing is one way I personally support Isreal and worship Yeshua. I am going to fast for Isreal also...they have been laid on my heart...I believe God wants me to go over there someday and minister to them My hearts desire is to see them once again turn and worship Adoni.

:) You're not stupid, Sweetie. It was just a slip of the brain, eh? Anyway, I just wanted to clarify  .

There are two video clips on this site with Messianic dancing

http://www.succotcelebration.com/

At the very bottom of the page, there are two examples of beautiful dances. On their site, click on

Ivru Basharim

and

Shimcha Kadosh

Maybe you could get some ideas from there.

Thank you so much sweety...my friend is the dance company manager of THE feast of the tabernacles (international chrisitan embassy jerusaleum) in Jerualeum! She is so cool. She went five weeks early. I miss her but respect her so much. I want to be like her someday

Hey HEY thats my little buddy Celine gonna do that!

Yes hon you need to cover your head. Thats the right thing to do. Also like you saw in the picture a long loose fitting skirt. Remember for a proper lady modesty is the key!

If you want some ideas look in the local Bible book store for a CD/DVD set by Karen Davis called "Sar Shalom" There is some good footage in it of Miss Karen dancing. If you can't find it ask mommy if it's ok I can send you my copy of the DVD.

Oooooh now lets learn something in Hebrew!

Shalu Shalom Y'rushaliam

Say it like this

Shah-loo Shay-loam Eee-Rue-Shah-Lie-eem

It means "Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem"

I am proud of you
Send pictures!

Blessings

I like to do "old friend" to this song. You have to "feel" the beat in the beginning, which makes this a little hard to dance to.

OLD FRIEND

Old Friend steps are a variation of HALELU steps.

This is the same dance as Hallelu (choreographed by Sylvia Yellin). The feet are the same for the entire dance, but there are changes to the hand movements

1. R tcherkessia
(lowering arms as you go forward, raising arms as you step back)
2. L Mayim
(women: both arms follow feet; men: put arms behind back)
3. Partial coupe to the left
(raise L arm, R arm follows foot)
4. Three point turn to the right
(lower L arm, raise R arm)
5. Coupe to the right
(R arm on hip, L arm follows foot)
6. Repeat 1-5 for entire song

Heh, I had ordered a Davidic dance video a while back and it was backordered. It happened to come yesterday afternoon. I already knew the Hora and was familiar with the Mayim, but it was nice to see the Tcherkessia, since i have seen reference to that dance a number of times.

Dunno what the coupe is, but your dance sounds beautiful at any rate, Debi :)

Sorry I didn't see this....

A coupe is a three count step. It can be either a left or right coupe.

COUPE TO THE LEFT
R crosses in front of L, placing weight on R, L steps in place, R steps to right side, joining L. Arm movements: L arm behind back, R arm follows R foot.

COUPE TO THE RIGHT
L crosses in front of R, placing weight on L, R steps in place, L steps to
left side, joining R. Arm movements: R arm behind back, L arm follows L
foot.
