On my 20 minute walk home from work tonight, I thought to myself "it would be sweet to find a bunch of various books and Bibles in the trash" 3 blocks later I saw a book sticking out of a box. I pull that sucker out and found a number of Bibles and other books.... "O Snap! Jackpot!" i thought... So i lugged those suckers 4 blocks which wasnt easy because my arms were over flowing. But this is what I found:

2 Authorized KJV's (1 new)
1 New NASB
1 New NIV
1 Slightly New Catholic Bible with Apocryopha
3 New Testaments (older)

Along with those I got a very old copy of The Imitation of Christ, a number of stephen king and koontz hardbacks...

In retrospect its sad that someone would throw away presumably thier entire collection of Bibles, but I will put them to good use...

Just thought i'd share the find with you guys... go back to theology now

Wow! Sounds like an amazing find. I wonder why anyone would throw out their Bibles?

I collect old Bibles and it astounds me that people will discard or sell for pennys the beloved old Bibles belonging to mom or dad.

I have one set I bought at a flea market for $3.00 that belonged to a husband and wife (she took more notes than he did!)

They are together in eternity and thier Bibles are together on my book shelf

Blessings

I did the 175th year powerpoint presentation for the local Presbyterian church and one of the great finds in the attic on the floor holding a door open was a Bible that was printed in 1703. From what I understand by reading the lineage of teh Bible in teh front and back it belonged to the big wig that settled here and made this place what it is.

By the way wher I am from every year we have surviving members of the movie "the wizard of oz" and our side walks are painted yellow because Baum was born here.

Also a lady at out church just donated a well used Scofield Bible to the library. As the librarian i can't put it into circulation as it is too fragile, so i don't know what to do with it, but it is a nice copy.

I'll take that copy Lollard! I also collect old Bibles. I love to read the notes and thoughts of the old saints. To me there is something special about old books in general (I collect first editions) and especially old Bibles. So don't trash it, I'd take it in a heartbeat!

Okay BT, I will ask the pastor first though as he might feel the same way, and may want it. If no one here wants it, it is yours :)

Isn't it great when the Holy Spirit prepares us to do His will? He put the thought in your head to be on the lookout for Bibles in the trash because He knew there were Bibles in the trash on your route home, so you started unconsciously looking at the trash for the treasure He wanted you to find.

I bet it went something like this:
(Holy Spirit) "Hey, that person is throwing away Bibles. That's a waste. I know my servant Mark walks home this way, so I'll call his attention to those books because I know he will value them and lug them home where they will be saved from the landfill."
(Mark's thoughts) "Hey, wouldn't it be cool to find some Bibles and other books on my way home tonight?"

By the way, if you need a home for that Scofield, I send Bibles around the world to poor Christians who wouldn't have Bibles any other way, and study Bibles are in big demand with pastors who don't have any study Bible at all. It doesn't matter that it is falling apart, some pastor will cherish that old book more than anything else he owns.

I have quite a few Bibles at the church that need a home, let me ask the pastor and the deacons and I will get back to you on that as well!

:amen: That is how the Holy Spirit works, and a life submitted to Him, though not easy, can be amazing in so many ways! Or we can refuse to believe Him, and dismiss it as a crazy thought, and then just miss out entirely on whatever it was, because of our unbelief!

This is important and very much needed!
