 Matthew 5:17 " Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets." For the venacular Dont even think it. It seems so tragic that much theological efforts have gone into formalizing the idea that the Messiah abolished the law. If they can't keep the commandment of the Messiah Himself. What are we to think?

:( I think I have banged my head on this wall with other believers more often than any other, so far. It's a hard one

This remains one of the most intriguing enigma's in Judaism today. Many ancient sages debated the veracity of Jesus. Some thought him to be a great heretic, others a wonderous Rabbi.

I am in the latter camp. My view is that he did hold to the faith of our ancestors and taught others to do the same.

Good day to you Rabbi Klein,

I am curious; at which point in the Gopsels do you personally draw the line to accept him as a wonderous Rabbi but reject him as anything more than that ? Is it the miracles that he perfomed for others, or the resurrection, or some other point ?

I know the Gospel might be difficult to assess 2000 years after the fact, but what I see historically is that many thousands of good and righteous people who were there in that time suffered horrible tortuous deaths willingly for what they were totally convinced of. These people would not yield on their conviction that Yeshua was who he claimed to be, and were willing to place their lives upon that. It is impossible for me to think someone whould have done this for a lie or a hoax.

Dear Charles,
Is it the miracles that he perfomed for others, or the resurrection, or some other point ?Why draw the line? Moshe, among many others, performed many such miracles. As did Elijah, again among others, bring back from the dead.

I do not draw the line. I accept his miraculous works. I accept his beautiful teachings. I simply do not believe he claimed to be the Messiah. Nothing more.

While I am under the impression I can not argue in this area of the fora, I don't think I'm breaking the rules by answering a question. Am I? Please, I do not want to be a burden to this community. I believe according to the rules I am allowed to debate these issues under the Jewish debates section. But I am not interested in debunking anyone's view of Jesus as the Messiah. I'd rather save that for another life.
:-)

You have not broken any rules that I know of. As you say, you are answering my question. Thank you for that. Since I do believe he claimed to be Messiah and more, it would be interesting to have that conversation. When you are willing. ;)

Dear Charles,

Possibly in the near future I might be interested in a healthy debate. At current I would prefer to continue watching from the sidelines and interjecting with a few comments. I would like to get to know the community here a bit better first.
