I've already talked to some of you (you know who you are ;) ) about starting a Yahoo group for all of us mommies of small children. I wanted to have a slightly less-public format for us to share our ideas and challenges in teaching our children about our Messianic-related beliefs, and for sharing in our struggles with raising Messianic children in a traditionally Christian world (I'm not at all saying Christians aren't necessarily saved, just that it's hard to teach the love of Torah when so many of our brothers and sisters in Messiah can be very critical of this POV!). I would also like to have a few women in our group who have "been there" and can give us good advice and encouragement.

I don't want this to be a "clique-ish" thing at all, so I wanted to open the invitation to anyone I may have missed. If this is the first time you've heard about this, and you want to participate, please PM or ask here for more information. You can also search Yahoo groups under 'Messianic Judaism' for our group, 'Messianic Mommies'.

I hope this will be an encouraging resource for those of us struggling with this particular challenge, and other challenges related to it (less than supportive family members, lack of Messianic community IRL, etc.). Please join me in taking ownership of this effort and making it an active, thriving online community of mommies, especially for those of us who are lacking in support from other sources.

TIA,

Katydid

By Grace,
I am sorry I didn't respond earlier, I had to discuss this with my husband. Unfortunately, I will not be able to participate there. My husband and I had a problem when I was involved in 5 forums at the same time. We decided to choose one that would fit our family best, and this is where we ended up. I am sorry, but I did want to explain so that you don't feel that I am ignoring or not interested. In all honesty, I am very interested, but I must think of my husband first. Thank you for the invite though. I hope it goes well for all of you.

That's fine, Katydid--I understand. I don't know if it makes a difference, but this isn't really a forum. It's more just an e-mail group. Any messages would go directly to your e-mail. But I completely understand if you think it would take too much of your time away from your family.

Jill:

I would be interested in your group. I'm just starting on this path and have 3 small children. I've begun teaching my 6-year-old about the Jewish culture - in fact we celebrated Rosh Hashana. My husband has been pretty tolerant of this, and even a bit interested, but I don't think he has much of a desire to start studying Judaisim on his own.

I don't have much direction, having really no exposure to Judaism except for my current studies only through the Internet. I feel like I need some other like-minded people to talk to about all this. In the Christian world, to show an interest in Judaism, let alone participating in ways, you're looked at like you're "trying to be Jewish" (which is not what I'm trying to do), that you're "going to end up putting yourself under law".

It's so exciting how since I've been studying Judaisim I understand certain aspects of Christianity *so* much better. It's been just *fascinating*, but like I said, try discussing it with other Chrsitians and they think you're some sort of freak.

I never could quite figure out how to use Yahoo so if you could let me know how that works, I'd love to talk to you more.
