Hi guys,
I just found an EXCELLENT two-page article which pretty much explains why G-d gave us the laws of Lev. 11. Actually, the first page deals with how our digestive system is and confirms that at some point human beings must have been vegetarian (Torah was right again!):

The second part deals with the great dangers of not paying attention to G-d's warning with regards to unclean animals:

I just love it when Science finds out thousands of years later that G-d was right after all... :D

I know of some people who find something like 'not touching a slice of ham' ridiculous, since nowadays we have a lot more hygene than in the past. Well, I have proof within my family that it is not something to be taken lightly. My stepmom did that and had a serious salmonella infection. She had to take such strong antibiotics that, years later, she's still struggling to return her intestinal flora to its original state (she has drink a lot of milk, take medicine, etc.)...

One thing to take careful note on:
Unclean does not = sin
I think an amazing and deep discussion on this very idea would make for a great thread. ;) Wanna go for it Ben?

Yafet,
I'm all for it... I, too, think unclean is not = sin.
HOWEVER, allow me to speculate... if I understand and acknowledge the Laws of Lev. 11, for instance, if I choose to live by the Torah and if I eat pork... I mean, I know it is harmful for my body (which as supposed to be a Temple), and I deliberately do it anyway... wouldn't THAT be a sin?
But then, of course, the root of such sin would be my disobedience (Yeshua himself said what defiles a person is what comes from within). The unclean animal would simply be the OBJECT of my sin. Do you guys agree?
Sounds like an interesting thing to debate!
