Kevin Smith of "Dogma" and "Clerks" fame is making a new movie called: "The Passion of the Clerks". The movie is being put out by Miramax.
They can make the movie for all I care, but what bites my hind quarters is a movie company was willing to make a movie full of trash talking degenerates but wouldn't even hear of making a movie about Jesus the Christ.
Here is the link. Be careful there is cussing all ove the site...

Who's your buddy?
Buddy Christ statues for the dashboard?
That is really sick. NOW we know what Christ meant when people say LORD LORD, and He said, I never knew you!

Pardon my ignorance, but who are the "Clerks"?

Clerks was a movie in the early ninties put out by Kevin Smith. He later did Dogma in which he portryed the Catholic Church as trying to make Jesus more acceptable (the priest was George Carlin if that helps) . They called him "buddy Christ".
Anyway the first movie was a foul mouthed effort called clerks in which Silent Bob and Jay and the gang just say the f-bomb as many times as they can...

I know South park did the Passion of the Jew, but this guy has made two or three flops in a row and is trying to make a buck from the success of the movie Gibson made. Whatever, it just makes me want to chuck my tv out the window, or at least boycott the theaters...

I know I'm gonna get crucified for this but I actually liked Dogma. Sure it was irreverant, sacreligious and off on every doctrine that was brought up. Even though it mocked the institution of the Catholic church (institutions are easy targets for comedy), I think its portrayal of a wavering Catholic struggling with her faith was pretty insightful. It also raised some pretty deep theological questions for a comedy too.
Here are some other responses by Christians.

Before I became a Christian i liked the movie as well. I used to like all of the guys movies. Now? I cannot even convince myself they are worthwhile watching.
Dogma was my favorite out of all of them as well.

By the way I don't think the movie was so much about a struggling Catholic. Obviously she could not have been a true Catholic if she was working in an abortion clinic. The movie was more about one man's idea of whatever you shall bind on earth willbe bound in heaven.

Dogma was my favorite out of all of them as well.I've never liked typical guys movies. Action? boring. Horror? predictable and not scary. Comedy? stupid. I guess I'm a sucker for dramatic football movies but that is about it.
However Dogma really stood out to me because while it was irreverant to the institution of the Catholic church, it was quite reverant of an individual spiritual relationship with God that in many ways is similar to Protestant faith.
I have seen few comedies that actually made me think and Dogma was one of them.

I haven't seen either of the movies, but my friends always say that I'm movie illiterate - I rarely see anything. You all make me want to see Dogma just to understand what you're talking about.

If you are easily offended I would not rent it. If you have a sense of humor about your church then it is probably okay.

I must warn you that this movie has lots of swearing, is quite violent and extremely irreverent and offensive towards anything and everything Catholic. I would not recommend this movie to the average person, but I would give an extra warning to the average Catholic.
If you think you can handle that, it is a really funny movie that brings up some interesting theological questions.

Thank you for your warnings, GD and Lollard. Honestly, the swearing and violence would probably scandalize me more than the irreverence. Catholics do some funny things, but I probably wouldn't appreciate it if the movie was meant to portray Catholics negatively. There's a difference between funny and well, mean.

I think I know you well enough from around here to say NO do not rent it. It makes a farce of all you call holy (and much that I call holy). It is high blasphemy, a secular humanist with some $$$ out to prove a point. For your own peace, don't see it.

Now just incase you didn't understand this lesson when you were in Sunday school when you were 6 years old let pastor explain it to you boys and girls!
Jesus is holy - That means he just hates sin.
Of course we know that sometimes be do bad things by accident
or even on purpous but we always should feel sorry for them and ask
Jesus to help us not to sin any more.
So when your classmates at school say bad words
or look at bad pictures
You run away from that.
Because you don't want to hurt Jesus who loves you
by sinning.
Remember boys and girls
Your father up above
IS looking down in love!
so Little child little child be careful what you do!

I didn't read the link, I don't really have to understand they are making a mockery of my Savior. What's sad is that "professional critics" said TPOTC was too brutal to learn anything, and they gave it a low rating, but this movie will probably get high raves as a..."true comedic interpretation that really makes us laugh and think at the same time."
Ugh, this world makes me sick.

Never seen Dogma, OR the Passion of the Christ OR the Last Temptation of the Christ.
I have seen Clerks (a long time ago) as well as two other Kevin Smith movies, Mall rats and Chasing Amy.
Judging by that trilogy, I would expect as much that there will be some coarse humor that will probably offend my senses in various ways. I do not plan on seeing this so called "Passion" because I'm pretty much over sophomoric humor. If I want to "think", I can read a book. If he wants to criticize the Christian insititution, he can make that choice for himself. However, I'm not going to give him any more attention or my money than he deserves. I would rather watch a movie that intellectually and conceptually argues its disagreement than uses four letters and immaturish behavior of thirty year olds.
