I think the Lord is leading me into service to new Christians and those of the faith that are stagnate. I was wondering if any of you could recommend some resources I could point these folks to. I have some ideas already. What do you think of these books.
Know What You Believe - Paul Little
The Life You've Always Wanted - John Ortberg
Knowing God - J. I.Packer
Studying, Interpreting, and Applying the Bible - Henrichsen, Walter
Knowing Scripture - R. C.Sproul
Know Why You Believe - Paul Little
I believe we should help ground them in the essentials of the faith and give them the tools to be able to study Scripture themselves. Also, establishing good Spiritual Disciplines is very important. (reading, studying, memorizing Scripture; regular prayer life; time alone with God; etc.)
Thanks

Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby is something I would recommend. There is a devotional, and also there is a group workbook and it is really awesome. I've taken it once already and starting another class tonight. It really shows some basics for Christians and helps people get closer to God and have many experiences with them.

http://www2.christianforums.com/images/smilies/doh.gif My brother gave that to me and I have only read the first chapter. What I have read so far, you are right. Don't know how I left that off my list. Thanks.

This is an awesome post...wish I had thought of it myself!
Any chance we can get it stickied for those newbie Christians that come to the site? Perhaps it will help them.
I look forward to reading more on this thread.
Thanks!

Any other ideas? I know that I didn't list every resource available to help new Christians to become grounded in the essentials of the Faith. Did I stump ya? Or are we just not as interested in aiding new Christians as we are in arguing with each other? I know that is not the case.

I know two books that helped me out tremendously:
1) "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. When I read this, I was still not saved, but I think there are good things for new Christians to learn about in that book.
2) "How to Read the Bible for all its Worth" by Gordon Fee.

Great read for everyone interested in studying the bible.

I would add "What's so amazing about grace?" by Yancey for those that can't grasp the concept of the grace of God.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm checking these suggestions out this weekend. Has anyone read "The Jesus I Never Knew" by P. Yancey?

Yes I have and it is great. You might also try "the Bible that Jesus read", by Yancey, which is another great book.
If you can find it try reading "Inside out" by Dr Larry Crabb. The first time I read it the guy had me saying, that is it, finally someone understands me... :)
I hope to some day write a book about the struggles I have had in my journey with and to Christ.
