 I have been told that I am not saved because I have not been baptised in water.

Is this true?

Baptism does not save you, but you should be baptised.

Good read on baptism here: http://www.intouch.org/myintouch/exploring/bible_says/single_questions/baptism_129441.html

I can't tell you how much it pains me to hear that another Christian, whether it be an individual or a group, would tell you such a thing. Baptism by water is a good thing to do, not a must thing to do. Do you think Jesus was baptized in order to be saved? I sure don't! Among other things, it was symbolic of His dedication to carrying out God's plan for Him. It's the same for us.

The only requirement for salvation is baptism in the spirit, the result of accepting God's gracious gift of His only Son, Jesus Christ. God knows your heart...if you truly repent and accept Jesus into your heart, you are saved...trust Him.

No, baptism alone does not save you.
But it says in the Bible to be baptised.

Baptism really enriches your relationship with God, it is a stand for what you believe and is a Spiritual statement too.

As others have said, baptism doesn't save you.
God does however say that we are to be baptized.
So I would do it, it was one of the best experiences in my life.

In HimAgreed....I just hope no one thinks his or her salvation depends on it. Otherwise, those of us who waited several months, or even years, after being saved would be doomed.

Baptism won't save you. Because we are ALL saved. If you have repented and you have faith in what Christ has done for us, you are saved. It isn't what we do but what Christ has done for us that has saved us.

I want to jump on the "baptism-doesn't-save-you" bandwagon.

We're saved by God's grace extended to us through Christ's atoning, vicarious death on the cross. Period.

Don't let anybody make you feel like you are somehow incomplete. If you're saved, then you are complete in Christ.

Now, all of that having been said, baptism is an outward testimony of the inward salvation that we've already recieved and is something that every Christian should do.

There are only two ordinances of the church, baptism and the Lord's Supper and they are important to us, among other reasons, because they is how we identify our choice to follow Christ and His work in us.
