What do you all make of this "open letter" is it a big jump in the under mining of the ELCA.
Peace to u,

I'm never exactly sure what to think of those things. I started a thread about ELCA and the ordination of homosexuals here in the Lutherans section.
I understand their concern and yet I worry about some of the things, too.

Peace to u,
Bill:scratch: I don't quite understand how the letter would be undermining to the ELCA . The intent is to strengthen the ELCA in the historic Lutheran faith.

Lord knows that the ELCA does need some restrictions and to be brought out of the state that it is in. Even my home church is in a debate about the ordination of homosexuals. We have many different views and many different philosophies.
But the one thing about my church is that it is not 100% Die hard ELCA, we actually have quite a large LCMS population that comes to my church on Sunday's. So take Diehard ELCA and Diehard LCMS and you get my church. I am hoping that some sense can be talked into people that are still wondering what to believe in this situation, but I dont know what will happen.
In my opinion the ELCA should start going back to the historic Lutheran faith, and start with not ordaining homosexuals, then we could put some other older practices back in.

My church is ELCA and the MS won't have anything to do with us, it seems. However, I don't think my church adheres all that much to strict ELCA teachings, either. I think they are not as liberal as ELCA is as a whole. I do like welcoming everybody. I do like open communion. However, we are quite traditional, too. The most I hear from the church members about ordaining homosexuals is "I hope they don't."

I am new to the Lutheran chruch, and from my observations the members of the ELCA seem mostly fairly moderate and generally against ordination. The trouble lies in the leadership, I think. It seems that the leaders are way more liberal than those they lead. I enjoy so many things about the church and came into the church by choice and as an adult, but I am deeply troubled by the apparent disregard for "sola scriptura."
I belong to an ELCA church myself. I started going to the church before I knew the difference betwee LCMS and ELCA. I just knew about Martin Luther and Lutherans. I appreciate the open communion as well. I am not an official member of the church yet, though I am a baptized Christian. I feel that all baptized Christians who are saved by faith ought to be able to partake of the Supper.

Yeah, I worry about the "sola scriptura" and the ELCA ignoring that, too. However, the open communion is something that I feel is important, myself. God loves all and welcomes all, and so by offereing communion to all, I feel the ELCA preaches that.
I just hope the vote for ordination of homosexuals is considered very VERY carefully, for if it seems the members aren't for it, then I would hope that it doesn't pass. It's obvious homosexuality is a sin, and it seems that some just want to disregard that fact rather than the "love the sinner, hate the sin."
