Wow! That's quite near me but much different from New Orleans where I've been enough times! It's too bad we don't have any youth of the right age to attend. I'd love to go and chaperone it! I wish I could go!

Yeah, but I'm not of the right age and it requires registration and such unless they come up with someting about it. I'm going to keep looking into it.

Oh I meant that if you can't go to the gathering, to go visit the city regardless. San Anton is great, well anywhere in Texas is great! If you ever wish to get a small taste of heaven, you can always come visit. :D
Well, anywhere except for Houston  It's located in TX's armpit for a reason.

ugh. . been to Houston enough times. I'm sure San An. is wonderful. I've never been quite that far, but I do love Seguin.
I want to go to the gathering, though! I love all those huge faith gathering things!

My assistant Pastor already told my friend and I about a youth gathering at Texas a few weeks ago. :)
It sounds really cool! Except I will be in college by then so I'm not sure if I can go.. I've never been to Texas before. Sounds like a cool state. :)

Being I live in Louisiana, I've been to Texas quite a few times. It's only a four hour drive to Houston from where I live. Surprisingly, I've not been to Mississippi, though.
Texas is a pretty nice state. I'd love to go to this, but I'd only be able to go as a chaperone and we don't have youth that'll go at this moment. I didn't get to go to 2003 becuase I too old. I did get to go to St. Louis in 2000 and New Orleans in 1997. I had a great time in St. Louis (we weren't there as part of the Youth Service Corps and I was with people that I got along with much better).

We're planning to send our youth. I'll go if the kids ask me to.
That reminds me. We need to plan our fundraising for the year. Kagome, you should contact the LYO and see if they need extra hands at the event.

Ooh. . good idea. . .I always forget about the LYO! I don't know how to contact them, though. I guess I should look at ELCA and such.

I went to the River of Light LCMS Youth Gathering in San Antonio when I was 15. We had a great time and enjoyed the city. I'd really like to visit Texas again.

So you were one of those who blocked the streets when I was on my Honeymoon down there in 95?
J/K you guys blocked up traffic for quite a while which had me honking my horn at y'all.

Hahaha. . .you should've seen the crowds in the streen in New Orleans in 1997 or the metro station crowds in St. Louis in 2000!

I sent the following e-mail to quite a few ELCA/LYO e-mail addresses:
I'm not really sure how to start this e-mail, so excuse me if this
seems like I'm rambling. My name is Bridget and I'm currently 22
years old. I really want to be a Youth Minister and I'm doing
everything I can to train to be a Youth Minister.
I'd really like to somehow be a part of the next ELCA Youth Gathering,
but I don't know of any options for people my age to even help with
it. Since people my age left the little church I attend in Lake
Charles when they left for college, I'm really the only person there
that's still interested in this type of stuff.
I've honestly felt the calling to be a Youth minister ever since I was
an older youth myself, about 10th or 11th grade.
I will be attending the National Youth Workers Convention held by
Youth Specialties in Dallas, TX this year in October.
I wasn't aware of any oportunites to be involved in the 2003 National
Gathering in any way, so I didn't go to that.
Being that there aren't really youth at my church except for small
children, it's hard to get started in youth ministry - and we are the
only ELCA church in the area.
I'm trying my best by going to trainings and being involved with the
young children and serving as the head of my church's education
committee. I'm also planning on doing a distance education course
just to enrich myself. It's a nondenominational course and it won't
affliate me with any church. So, now I'm also writing to anybody at
LYO adn ELCA about gatherings and other opportunities.
I'd like to get information about any of the things I could possibly do.
I can really feel God calling me to be a youth minister, but I just
don't know where He's taking me.

Wow! I got a response (from Rod Boriak)! So humbled. . .I can't even accept what seems to be semi-praise here. . .
Bridget,
We need more people like you who eagerly prepare for ministry!
Thanks for your interest in volunteering at the Gathering in 2006. I've
forwarded your note to the Gathering staff so that they can put it into
the volunteer file. Don't panic if you don't hear back soon. The
Gathering program director, Heidi Hagstrom, is on sabbatical until the
first of the year. When she returns the names will be forwarded to the
volunteer team leader/coordinator.
Blessings,
Rod
