1. St. Basil's Cathedral - Red Square, Moscow, Russia
Built in the 16th century on Red Square by Ivan the Terrible to commemorate his successful military campaign against the Tatar Mongols in the besieged city of Kazan. The architect was blinded on orders of Ivan so that he might not build a more magnificent structure. By a miracle, survived several orders to be demolished during the Stalin era.

A replica of this 19th century church designed by the architect Konstantin Ton to commemorate Russia's victory over the French in the Napoleonic Wars. 6. Cathedral of Ss. Cyril and Methodius - Prague, Czech Republic
The assassins of Reinhard Heydrich took refuge in this church. They shot at pursuing SS through mail slots in the crypt. Eventually, the Nazis flooded the crypt and Sgt. Kubis and Sgt. Darn, you stole my line! My priest once commented that the Church will need to add the phrase "and space" eventually to the prayers for those who travel by land, sea and air once space travel becomes common place. The joys of being Orthodox!

Beautiful city, I was there this summer. Before the revolution there were about 40 temples, today about 20 remain (still a lot for a small city).

From left to right :
The Katholikon (main church) of the Iveron Monastery.
The Katholikon of the St Panteleimon (Russian) Monastery.
Simonos Petra - the rock of Simon - Monastery. Mysteriously built literally on a piece of rock and yet standing. Don't try it at home!

Perhaps he meant it as a prayer for astronauts, ones travelling on space shuttles and living in the International Space Station, I forget what it's called.

St. Paul the Apostle Mission in Denison, TX
http://www.oca.org/pages/directory/photos/oca-so-denspm.jpg
What makes this temple special is that:
1) this mission parish has only been meeting together for less than 2 years, but decided that having a recognizable Orthodox temple was necessary for growth in this small town on the Oklahoma border;
2) they used the plan drawn in 1847 by St Jacob Netsvetov for a church built in Ikogmiut, Alaska, and approved by St Innocent; and
3) it was built by the Priest and parishioners. Their priest, Father Michael, used to be a Deacon, then Asst. Priest at our parish, and wrote our Icons. He is a carpenter by trade.

Site of the 2nd Ecumenical Council. First built in the era of Constantine, later rebuilt by Justinian in 532 after the Nike riots, finally remodeled after an earthquake in 740.
