View Full Version : Do you ever read the OP of a thread first?

Do you read the OP of a thread first? Do you jump to the last post in the thread and respond to that? If you're reading this, vote "Apples & Oranges" in the poll.

On polls, I vote on the poll first before I read anything else. If I am am arriving at a thread for the most recent post area, i will read what was posted last to see if the current discussion is of interest, but even then I will read the OP before posting. Usually though, I go to a certain forum, find a topic that interests me, and start with the first post.

Exactly! ^_^
Generally, I make it a point to read the OP first, otherwise, it's easy to digress. If there are a lot of replies and the subject matter of the thread has changed, I quote the main theme of the lead post and go on from there.

I've gone on some interesting sounding threads and found page 10 or whatever is so off topic its like a new subject. I on occasion don't read an OP if I see the posts are still along the same lines as the subject title.... but thats rare: "Bananas!"

One thing I will sometimes do, if a thread has experienced thread drift, is, after having read the whole thread, respond to the last post in it (or the last one with substantive comments that interest me) and then try to tie the quoted post and my response back to the OP topic in an effort to get the thread back on track.

Yes, I always read the OP first. It gives me an idea of what the actual topic is. Then if the discussion seems extremely deep, I will read each post in the thread to ensure that I am on top of the latest ideas, etc. If it's kind of random, I usually skip to the last page and post based on the last few posts. So of course Apples & Oranges was my poll choice :)

You read the OP to see what the topic and/or question is. You read the first few posts, then a few middle posts, and the last few posts. Did they answer the question? Yes? Is it right? Then I post. If it's the wrong answer, I kindly supply my own.

Happy posting, y'all!

humblemuslim

I always read the OP is standard threads, but in Poll threads I tend to vote before I look at any post, so that my answer is kept true my first impression, not skewed by some comment (Such as your apples and oranges comment).

Thus I voted Yes before my answer could be influenced by the response you wanted people to choose.

The poll question was tricky. I always read the OP first, unless it is a poll. If it is a poll, I never read the OP first because it can often skew your natural feelings about the question.

The title should be "Do you ever read the OP of a poll thread first?" ;)

I always read the first post otherwise how would I know what's being asked/discussed?That depends on thread topics. As you get used to certain members and how they post, you'll know when to skip and when not to. The question is if you ever read the OP of a thread first, which, would, by all definitions, include the OP of this poll thread. If you read the OP, of this thread, first, you could ONLY vote Apples & Oranges. No other option. Voting Yes is false. Voting No would indicate honesty, or at least not reading This thread's OP.

I almost voted Yes, since it was a poll, but when I saw more than just Yes/No, I made sure I Read the OP and then voted A&O

Yes, as it makes for confusion if you just jump in at page 5 and try to guess what the OP's thoughts are.

Apples & oranges:
I always read the OP and the first page and maybe more depending on the topic, and the last page before I post, like blessings exchange. OP,first page, last page, then post. any debates, OP, first page, second page or more, last page, then post.
Jesus be with you and God bless

On polls, I vote on the poll first before I read anything else. If I am am arriving at a thread for the most recent post area, i will read what was posted last to see if the current discussion is of interest, but even then I will read the OP before posting. Usually though, I go to a certain forum, find a topic that interests me, and start with the first post.
Same here
