Hey, since things are slow in here tonight, I got bored and wondered over to the GT board. I came across this thread and read some interesting replys:

http://www.christianforums.com/t823517

I didn't post in the thread because I wasn't quite sure what to say, and I didn't want to misrepresent the Orthodox faith in any way. The thread is about whether or not Satan is omnipresent. Now, I don't believe for a minute that he is because he is a created being---NOT equal with God. However, there have been some interesting things said about how Satan can tempt so many different people at once. If you have a minute, browse through it and comment in here about the Orthodox take on it. Thanks!

I haven't done a lot of reading yet about the Orthodox view of Satan's abilities, but, between Bible study, reflection, and personal experience I do think that he does not have the same limitations we do. Yet, his power certainly does have limits. I take comfort in the knowledge that he is a conquered enemy whose utter destruction has been made sure. Meantime, we need to be careful not to give him room in our lives.

what countrymousenc says!

I honestly didn't go to the thread. I don't like giving the enemy my time and attention at night because my concentration and focus isn't as good and I need all my wits about me when I tread into that areana.

However, I have seen the work of the enemy on a larger scale on several occassions and I can see why some want to give the puny creep the title of "omnipotent".

He might have "omnipresent" qualities. I tend to think (I am not speaking about Orthodox Doctrine here.. but about my own unchrismated ideas) that omnipresense is possible in created beings. Here is my untrained thought process regarding this:

All around the world people ask Theotokos to pray for us. We do this everywhere at all different times. She is a Holy Lady and a higher being than the enemy, but clearly she is omnipresent. (present everywhere at all times.) Thetokos was all human.

the enemy is less than human but I tend to follow that he is everywhere at all times. I also would agree that time has no meaning for the creap as well.

But Thank God! he is NOT omnipotent (all powerful!) And I don't believe he is "omni...." opps lost the term in my head, it is "all knowing". I don't believe he knows all.

Again, this is not Orthodox doctrine, only the musings of a mere human still learning about this great faith.

(Reminds me: I love the book "The Screw Tape Letters" by C.S. Lewis and this is the subject of that book. Most libraries carry this and my Priest has told me that anything written by C.S. Lewis has his stamp of approval.)
