View Full Version : A Really Cool Orthodox Forum

Well, I've seen alot of TAW members lately who are extremely frustrated. Because of forum rules, we're unable to post some of our Church's viewpoints and such. Therefore, since I have a lot of qustions that you can't legally answer here, why not go to another forum where we can freely discuss Orthodoxy? I'm not talking about abandoning CF, but just starting to use another forum to talk about things that might be considered offensive to our Protestant and Roman Catholic bretheren. There's a link below to a forum that I found. Please let me know how you feel about this.

OC.net is loaded with Roman Catholics. I much prefer this forum to that one, even though OC is more "free for all."

What things would be illegal here? It seems to me it is the nature of the questions or comments rather than the questions and comments themselves. I could be wrong as Ive only been here for little over a month, but I base what i say on what I've seen posted here. I have seen many comments and questions that a protestant or RC would not agree with, and that's ok, but I have also seen questions and comments that have no regards for the feelings of RCs and Protestants, and that's not ok. Even when RCs and Protestants are not present we should be just as charitable and loving when speaking about them amongst ourselves in private.
Just some thoughts. If there are threads that are not allowed because of the worry of offending our separated brethern, which are those? I would jsut like to know so I don't bring them up. You can post me in private about this so as not to scandalize others.
In Christ,
James

To tell you the truth, I don't know. There's just some questions that I and some other inquirers have asked that members of the Orthodox Church say they can't discuss here. :sigh:

Hey, we have this great feature called Private Message! Seriously, I can't recall anyone reubuking you for asking something. If you have a question that you think is contraversial, you can PM just about anyone in this forum and we'd love to help you or answer your question. I hope no one minds me mentioning names, but some great people who have great knowledge are: Rick of Wessex (very helpful and VERY nice), Matrona, Photini, Suzannah, Oblio, Rilian, Iacobus (msp?), Eusebios, Anonykat, Cradle, ................gosh, there are many more but I would be here all night.:) The only subject I can think of that is too contraversial to discuss at length in this forum is the differences between the RCC and EOC.

I was over at OC.net when a fundamentalist from CF stopped by and made a post or two. That was how I found CF. I'll stop by when CF is down, but I focus on Orthodox apologetics and fellowship here.

I have been over to that forum site too and I found people to be rather nice and friendly. However, there are some "Ultra-Orthodox" or "Extreme Orthodox" there that try to set standards for what is "true Orthodoxy" and what is not based upon small "t" traditions of their particular parish. I found these individual's there to be rather rude and I got frustrated with my PM's to them trying to encourage them to treat other's more kindly. Eventually, I just come back here where it is friendly 99% of the time and the attitudes fit more with what I am being taught by my own Priest.
I am there sometimes though. And I have met some nice people there. (One only write to me in PM's because she hates to post publically as she gets attacked by the "Extreme O's".

Thorny Grace, I have to agree with you about the Ulta Orthodox over there. Personally, I just skip their posts and don't even read them, because I know that I'll react in a way that is not charitable or I'll end up judging them.

You will find ultra Orthodox anywhere, it is a fact of life. Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamozov describes them rather well.

I just visited there yesterday (I registered as Isapostolos, Basileus was taken) and I think I know at least two of the extreme O's. I am sure they go to my Parish. They actually are really nice.
Why are there so many RCs there???

Where in The Brothers K does it mention the Really, Extremely, Only, Everyone-Else-Is-A-Graceless-Heretic, True Orthodox Church? It's been a while since I've read it, but since I need to read it again for Russian Lit, I figure everything more I can know about it, the better.
Oh, and I'm over at OC.net, too. Same screen-name as I have here, but over there, I'm more of a lurker, because I don't like having to deal with the Catholics and Ultradox.

Just thought I'd mention that I'm a global moderator over there  though because I'm in Greece I tend to operate as the night watchman since when I'm online it is usually during the wee hours of the morning U.S. time :).
I catch the night trolls ;)

Father Ferapont.Yes FR. Ferapont is the ultra-Orthodox at least in his eyes. It is quite a contrast to the Startz Zossima.

Another Orthodox forum is Nicholas's Forum (http://pub135.ezboard.com/bnicholasforum88957)on Ez-board. It is a nice place if you can stomach the neo-cons.

Hi, I am Anastasios, one of the three administrators of OCnet. The reason we have so many Catholics on our board is that many of us started our internet life on another Eastern Catholic board and so many Catholics followed us to OCnet.
We do have our ultradox, but not as much as the Ecafe. I can't post a link there because I don't have 15 posts on this forum yet :) Over there I am called liberal, but my Eastern Catholic friends say I am ultra conversative. So you know, you can never win :)
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy this site and I would post here more if I had the time. Have a blessed day!

I thought Nicholas himself had recently left Orthodoxy and became Anglican. Is this not so?
And, I thought he was located in Texas...of course they'll be some neo-cons ;)
