Hi,
CF now has a new IRC channel with a new IRC server. It should be faster. Click on the Chat link at the top of every page, or go to the Chat Room forum under Relaxation.
You can also use 3rd party software like mIRC to go there:
server: hub.christian-irc.net
port: 6667
Enjoy! ;)

Every time I try to go to the Chat room, it says that it is unable to connect. Any suggestions?

Er, what channel?
No need to set it - going to that URL automatically uses #christianforums

It's good to have an IRC channel to complement forums. I'm there. :) ... just need some more people :-)
I have one concern, however. Currently there are rarely any ops in the channel; would have come in handy to deal with a troll who joined for a short time yesterday.

Hmm...I'd like to suggest a "No mirc scripts" rule, especially those using color. :/

Unless thats a channel only rule, I can safely say that Christian-IRC staff won't be enforcing that rule.
The part that makes most scripts unique, including Christian-IRC's own CrossWalk v2 (Soon to be released), is the color schemes and stuff.

No way! That's pretty unfair if you ask me :|

I was only suggesting it for the channel. Though, I did catch a multi-colored global the other day. *glares* ;)
The part that makes most scripts unique . . .
It's part of what makes them lame and annoying. :P ;)

Well, that depends. Hypoethetically, if a majority of people don't like straining to read colored text among a bunch of symbols, then it's unfair to them to allow such scripts.
Besides, it was just a suggestion, throwing in my vote against such scripts.

dunno most use the colors.. prob better to get a client that supports the ascii...
