I wold like to hear comments on the sola fide debate. I think it was done well over all, and it was finished. Can't say that about some of the debates.

I think Defens0rFidei was off track when he attacked Luther, seeing how the arguments on the othe side were based on scripture and not Luther.

[quot=DF]Since DF has felt it necessary to include in the debate, among other things, historical information, I would at least like it to be known that some Scriptures of the 1400's, before Luther's time, included the phrase "faith alone." Luther wasn't the first to "insert the word" into the Scriptures.
Whether or not Luther tried to insert words into the bible does not follow that the bible supports saved by faith.

I think many today understand that this passage explains that James' works was a result of his faith.

[uote= James 2.18] But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.
Here, James is saying that he shows his faith by his works. I understand Jame to be claiming that faith and works always go togther, he answer a question he poses in James 2.14. If faith without works is dead, then it is of no effect, it is as if there is no faith.

No, i propose a new question that I hope some of you will comment on and even carry out a formal debate. This is related to "once saved always saved" debate. Does faith bring us to Christ and grace keep us there? I refer Ephesians 2.8-10, in asking this question. I've not worked it out myself. So, I can wholly refute DF's agruments about this passage. :help:

Although, these debates only make our views stronger, they are profitable for learning.

I want to note that the odd number of rounds (my starting and ending) in the debate was most likely due to a miscommunication. I had in mind an introduction plus five rounds of rebuttals and then an additional conclusion. DF probably thought the counclusion was included in the five rounds of rebuttal.

I originally thought DF simply wanted to end the debate early by not responding, so I did not ask about it. In retrospect--upon rereading the debate challenge details--I should've asked DF if he thought the debate was over. It's not fair to have an additional round at the end of the debate.

Although it's much later, I'm more than willing to allow DF to respond again to my concluding remarks; he rightfully has the last word.

In the future, I will be sure to define the number of rounds more clearly. Unfortunately, this only being my second formal debate, I'm still learning the ropes and DF got the short end of the stick.

Thanks for the clarification Matt. I was confused by the round numberings, but it makes sense now.

I dont think I need to respond to your last comments, so you can have the last words, so to speak.

Thanks again for the clarification!
