This is a classic example of Erwin's great Christian compassion and willingness to go to extremes to accommodate all who use CF. And for that, great thanks. I'm PM-ing the thread location to Loki, who was one of the folks who most wanted this sort of thing, and whose integrity in refusing to claim a belief not present deserves honor.

*puts a pot of water on the stove for tea* Any requests? If not, it's earl grey. And it's lovely to visit your forum. I feel like I do when I visit a church in town, but less awkward and shy.
And thanks again Erwin; I really appreciate this, and promise to use it well and vacuum and dust at least once a week. Would you like tea, or do you take coffee? I'm not great at making coffee, but i can try.

I'm pretty good at tea making, if I do say so.
So.... anything do/see anything neat lately? I tried the 50+ yr old wheat wine thta's been in my grandparents' cellar for the pst 50+ years. It was surprisingly good. Really smooth and mellow, and not the least bit turpentine-y, like it smelled.

I'm a midwesterner indeed. Seebs is, too, if MN counts as midwest. It does, right? And what does that mean, midwest? We're not really in the middle of the west. We're not west of the middle. And I mean, Michigan... we're almost like our own domain. Michigan's not on the way to anywhere, so anyone in michigan has a reason to be here.

Wheat wine is bootleg liquor, moonshine... fermented wine that poor farmers make to make life more amusing. I'm not sure exactly what they do to it, but it's... alcoholic, and they don't call it beer... And it's remarkably good!

Good morning to all. Interesting SS lesson yesterday on how to endure/overcome trials and tribulations. very good lesson. Next week my wife and I are going to attend a Friends meeting near us (thanks Seebs).....looking forward to it. McCravey, what was the text for your SS lesson? What do you mean by anti-organized? I'm feeling what I call "semi-detached", so maybe it's sort of the same thing. (Of course, I also like the oddness of the phrase.)

My dentist says I can't gnash my teeth cause they're already pretty flat. I attribute it to eating lots of veggies and grinding them down on hard plant stuffs, rather than chewing on animal flesh. My boyfriend just got the wisdom teeth out, so I could gnash his teeth...

Anyone have any funny anecdotes? Or just anecdotes?
I took my doggie to Lake Superior this summer. She's not seen water beyond the bath tub, but she's a great outdoors dog, so I figured she wouldn't mind. We walked along the beach, and she barked at the gulls and got sand up her nose and got her paws wet in the little waves the lap up on the beach. Well, I waded in a little bit, and encouraged her to follow me. Next thing I know, the dog is up to her chin in the lake, wiht only her head and the tip of her tail sticking out, and has a pathetic, injured look, as if to say "What did you just do to me?!" She bounded out, and ran around on the beach, and if I approached the water again (I never pulled on the leash or anything), she'd just lie down on the beach, facing me, as if to say "Uh uh. That water's too cold, and I don't trust you anymore." She's a lovely dog... 50lbs, black, looks like a border collie, but she's a mutt, and very friendly, but... well, i guess I could see how Lake superior isn't the greatest introduction to swimming for anyone, human or canine.

Gotta have a good cow that gives high butter fat! You cook it, according to an old Phoenician recipe that was exported to the Isles in ancient times. Good clotted cream is found only in the West Country -- Cornwall and Devonshire. The Cornish clotted cream is better by far!

Hmm . . . what would I bring . . . ?
Well, since this is a "Church" forum, after all, it would have to be that cheap ice cream that comes in industrial size tubs. Vanilla only. Church ice cream.
Who's bringing Church Cookies? You know, those copies of Oreos that show up at every potluck in the church basement. The ones I will associate my entire life with the phrase, "This is most certainly true!"
What am I thinking? This is LIBERAL churches!

Jasmine, Vanilla Almond, Green, some German fruit tea (literal translation of the name), peach, peppermint, chamomile (but I'll pass on this unless we wanna take naps), plain black tea, raspberry zinger...
I only have soy milk in my fridge, so if someone wants cow milk in their tea, please bring it. Also, if someone has a lemon, that'd be grand.

Polycarp's "An Interesting Liturgy" thread is certainly interesting. I don't know that there is any of that in my area, though I'd definitely be interested in seeing it. I really like the liturgy, though I'd have to agree with CaDan's recommendations.
School's going to start now, so time to go "church-hopping" again. I've been to about a dozen houses of worship in town, and have gained quite a bit of insight from visiting around. And for the most part, people are very nice :)
The most unique and beautiful one I went to was at an Episcopal ... gathering. I'm not even quite sure what it is... they call themselves Episcopal, and adhere to the tenets of Progressive Christianity (Not sure if I'm allowed to link to their website for fear of violating Rule 5), and have what they call "Jazz Mass." http://www.canterburyhouse.org is their website. They do "taize chants," and I'm not sure the tradition or origin of this, but it was really neat, and produced the closest thing I've had to a transcendental experience in a service. The only thing is that I'm imtimidated by small groups, and it's a small group, and it's very hard to hide in the shadows when there are 25 other people in the room with you.
Anyone else been to a really cool service lately?
And in case people think I'm going Episcopalean, my heart's still in the Catholic Church, and there's a beautiful one of those in town. It evokes different feelings, but nice, nonetheless.

Hi guys!
Sorry I've been out of the tea party for a while....been on a ministry. My best friend was running for local judge and was defeated. It was mostly Conservative Christian oposition that beat him. They don't like the fact that he doesn't attend any church, and that he has questions about God.
He is a very real person, loves God very much, even though he can't describe him, and has a real giving heart. He is very crushed by the experience. *sigh*

Hi Loki. Taize is an ecumenical Catholic Community in France. It's pretty amazing. I love their chants when I want to be peaceful. They have gatherings for young people mostly, so maybe you can get to one one day. Here is their website http://www.taize.fr/en/index.htm

Hello everyone:
Well Frances was tough to handle. The edge of the eye wall came over the top of my house. My house is still standing though...(Thank you Lord!)....very little damage.
There were a few trees down in my yard. We had to cut them up to get out of my driveway. We did this while in the middle of the storm....quite messy.
I have learned a new found appreciation for our electric system. We were without power for two days....it was misserable. We used a generator to keep our refrigerator going.....two hours at a time. We cooked on a camp stove, and ate very well, by the way..
We even took the time to bake some baklava.....Please have some.

My daughter's friend went on a holiday abroad for the first time in her life, to Florida. She visited the Orlando studios (?) and after just one day they were evacuated. They did have some time at Disney Land/World first. It seems they went to a few more hotels before going home, and their return was delayed for several days.
Of course it's good that they are all safe, but rather ironic all that should happen the first time she ventures out of this country.

Bloody heat and humidity. Yeah, that'll make things a lot worse. It's like last summer when the power went out for the northeast and midwest. I feel personally responsible for that one, cause I turned on the AC, and then the power went out.
I am posting this here cause there's really no other appropriate place to post it:
Rosary, free to a good home. I'm giving away my rosary, and if someone would like to mention it to the Catholics/Anglicans, perhaps someone would like my slightly used rosary? Oh, and this person also has to be able to tell me how to transfer it to them. This is the CF rosary, btw.

Seebs 'n' I just got back from Denny's. I had mozarella sticks and 'n' a milkshake; he just had an english muffin. We were plottin' the overthrow of Christian Forums usin' a hypertextual golem, but he got distracted inkin' stuff.
I was all like "Seebs! Pay attention, man!" And he was all like "Look at this cool pen!" And I was all like "Dude! That pen will not help us make a hypertextual golem. It is so old technology." And he was all like "This pen is very high tech!" And I was all like "Yeah, but how are we gonna make a hypertext golem out of it?" And he was like "I dunno. You got any ideas?" And I was all like "Man, you're the one with the blog 'n' stuff--you should know how to do this!"
But then he got all busy inkin' panels and wouldn't talk any more.
So I just went back to eatin' my Denny's mozarella sticks. I prob'ly shoulda got the SuperBird, 'cause they were pretty bad mozarella sticks.

I have reprinted my panels on non-coated paper, and will now experience the joy of inking and practicing.

Imitation? Hah!
Note the conversation style. Fafblog uses the "Blah blah blah," says {direct object} construction. CaDan uses the {subject} is [all] like "Blah blah blah" construction.
And we will soon unleash a Hyptertextual Golem o' Super-Powerful Über-Apologitics! Its Eschatological Force Field 'n' Soteriological Lasers will be, like, awesome. And it will have Wing Pods and lots o' other Power-ups.

We just have a few bugs 'n' stuff to work out. Like we fed it Acts 10:9-20 'n' it started rootin' around lookin' for pork sausage screamin' 'bout the new coventant. It wouldn't do nothin' 'cept eat all the Jimmy Dean it could find.
And like we were tryin' to explain the Common Meal Tradition 'n' stuff to it, but it just wasn't gettin' it. It just kept stuffin' itself with the pork sausage.

Sounds Fundy to me... Yes I believe in that but! I also am reluctant to believe God is so limited that I can know and understand everything about Him. In other words as far as I know I'm right, but then again so can others be right about God. He goes well beyond me. Or as someone else once said (surprise! tulc has a quote!):
When we believe something to be the absolute truth, we are closed. We are no longer open to the understanding and insight of other people, and this is
because the object of our faith is just an idea, not a living thing. But if the object of your faith is your direct experience and your insight, then you can always be open. You can grow everyday in your practice, in sharing the fruit of your practice, and in making your faith, love, and happiness grow.

I've actually used that in context in a post to a television related forum. It was a reality tv show where the "rules" seemed to be arbitrary decisions on the part of the producers as the filming occured. I described them as meddling in the show like a deus ex machina.

I over-heard two women Methodist ministers speaking of ideas for sermons in the Chinese Bouffet Restaurant this afternoon, where I had lunch with a senior friend ....You know I never really personally met any women ministers, and we have three Methodist Churches in our small waterfront town all run by one methodist woman minister. It was a kind of coincidence meeting them. I did glance over, and later introduced myself, and asked where their churches were located....I mentioned Christian Forums to them (they hadn't heard of CF before) and the other liberals here. It was a good feeling...

USI, I notice you've changed your avatar. I've been curious about it for a long time. Could you tell us a little about it?
I guess about ten years ago some scientists did an experiment where they inserted a ear shaped matrix on the back of a mouse and grew cartillage on it. There was hope that they could grow replacement ears and noses (the cartillage at least) for people who lost them due to cancer or burns. I remembered the image and while posting to a message forum where another member would post particularly incoherent ramblings I decided to post a photo of earmouse with the caption "HUH?"
It sorta became my avatar mascot, and I've had a few different types including one with a hoop earring through the ear. A few days ago in other threads there was some conspiracy kook posts and that got me and a couple of other people talking about tin foil hats. I said if anyone would photoshop a tinfoil hat onto earmouse I'd use it for my avatar. Thus the change. :)

I see.... Thanks for the explanation.
It seems like about a year ago it was masks people were putting on their avatars. I never figured out why. Now I'll understand when I see a tinfoil hat.
The masks are mostly non-believers (and a few Christians playing along) to symbolize the Evil Atheist ConspriacyTM. I've thought the whole EAC garbage was stupid years ago, but I did put a mask on earmouse for a couple of weeks just to play along. I also put pink bunny ears on him for Easter and horns for Halloween.
I don't know if you know the details, but the tinfoil hat is a mockery of anti-government, anti-New World Order, etc. etc. conspiracy kooks who think "they" can send mind control waves or read your thoughts, and a tinfoil hat will protect you - but only if it's shiny side out. ^_^

Just thought I'd mention that I've started a blog to sort of explore what I think it means to be a Christian in every day terms. Maybe someone here will want to read it and maybe even want to respond to something I say. It's just getting started at the moment, mind.

I like your blog Treasure the Questions! Maybe you can incorporate your blog in a creative way to your posts here, in the cafe, by leaving a message at the bottom of your posts here....or put quotes around your "thought" and entitle it with your personal thought for the day...
For example: Freespirit's thought of the day:Freespirit's Thought of the Day: :prayer: ^_^ Try to make one new friend a day:idea: !!!

Weak tea is fine by me. I'm sort of ashamed to admit it, but I prefer it weak to strong.
Mmm.... cocoa. Not so good at thirst quenching, though, so I dont' think I'll get a cup right now.
Got to meet a childhood idol today, and gave him a miraculous medal. I feel somewhat fan-girlish, but hey, it's sort of a catharsis. And it's a better use of my time than playing warcraft.

Ooh, I'll whip up some Tortellini soup to go with the bread!
I typically cook a pot enough to feed 10-13 people, so I think I'll make a double batch, just so no one goes hungry....
4 lbs tortellini, about 2 gal vegetable stock, spinach, red bell pepper, lots o' onion & garlic sauteed in olive oil, navy beans, artichoke hearts, fresh basil, fresh ground black pepper, some tomatoes.... it's simmering on the stove and help yourself to as much or as little as you'd like. There's some fresh grated parmesan in the fridge if you're so inclined.

On an unrelated note, there's a poster on these boards whose avatar is "Imagine No Liberals," with a smiley face. I reported it, but I don't know if anything ever came of it. As long as we're making trouble, how about this:
For we each of us deserve everything, every luxury that was piled in the tombs of the dead kings, and we each of us deserve nothing, not a mouthful of bread in hunger. Have we not eaten while another starved? Will you punish us for that? Will you reward us for the virtue of starving while others ate? No man earns punishment, no man earns reward. Free your mind of the idea of deserving, the idea of earning, and you will begin to be able to think.

To St George's Hill
A ragged band they called the Diggers
Come to show the people's will
They defied the landlords
They defied the law
They were the dispossessed
Reclaiming what was theirs
'We come in peace' they said
'To dig and sow
We come to work the land in common
And to make the waste land grow
This earth divided
We will make whole
So it can be
A common treasury for all
The sin of property
We do disdain
No one has any right to buy and sell
The earth for private gain
By theft and murder
They took the land
Now everywhere the walls
Rise up at their command
They make the laws
To chain us well
The clergy dazzle us with heaven
Or they damn us into hell
We will not worship
The God they serve
The God of greed who feeds the rich
While poor men starve
We work, we eat together
We need no swords
We will not bow to masters
Or pay rent to the lords
We are free men
Though we are poor
You Diggers all stand up for glory
Stand up now
From the men of property
The orders came
They sent the hired men and troopers
To wipe out the Diggers' claim
Tear down their cottages
Destroy their corn
They were dispersed
But still the vision lingers on
You poor take courage
You rich take care
This earth was made a common treasury
For everyone to share
All things in common
Al people one

I love english literature and humanities courses in college, but hadn't read any of the work of the author from above. I did get through some of Machiavelli's The Prince, and I do honor his perspective of what the animus lokus or animus loki is and was during his time---(not quite a Freudian term...)
In my opinion it resembles what the Lord was sketching for us in the parable:
Matthew 21:33-41
Matthew 10:39
"He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it..."RSV

I've been better. Haven't found the wallet, no bloody clue where it is, though there was approximately 15 minutes where it could've gone missing, and I still can't find it. All credit cards have been replaced, am getting a new insurance card, need to get a new voter registration card (thankfully voting absentee this time), and only lost $14, which is annoying, but not life-threatening. Overall, it's just a very stressful time, and I have a headache, which may or may not be related to the stress. But technically it's not a migraine! I love pumpkin pie! They had them on at safeway for 2.50 each, so I bought three in a row, then my wife said I couldn't have anymore. That wasn't very nice. Sniff. :P
Was that 2.50 in dollars or 2.50 in Canadian Tire Money? :D

Canadian tire doesn't sell pies!! But we do have Canadian Tire money, haven't counted it in awhile.

And I'm an ignorant fool or something like that, and have been deemed unworthy of participating in high brow discussions. And I said "bloody." Or maybe it was genitalia that he was offended by. *shrug*
Anyway, I'm posting this to tell you that I'm going to go on a self-imposed hiatus from CF for a variety of reasons. I'll be at Cross & Flame and that other unmentionable board. If you want to find me and don't know how, check Cross & Flame or ask Seebs.
Later y'all.

You've had some excellent posts Loki!...I've felt the same as you at times, though, myself...I'm still new to this forum here, so I'm not sure how creative and giftedly inspired people are over here, but sometimes the more we are given by the Lord in life---well the more we are given--the more will be expected of us.....
Also---the harvest full Moon and the eclipse of this moon has had a strong pull also at our reasoning and our sometimes emotional outlook---it actually does make our feelings and judgemental sense seem totally eclipsed at times...like these....Hugs anyway!!! Hoping for more good spirit and good faith in the days ahead!...and not to be too overly hard on our own selves...!

Come back soon Loki. I imposed a self-imposed exile for a self-imposed time period. I lasted about a week.
I might have received official warnings for what I consider the most capricious of rationales, but that doesn't fully destroy my reasons for enjoying CF. I've had people I respect suspended/banned recently, but that still doesn't quite end it for me. I'm going to stick it out... for a little while longer.

Well, I'd like to consider projecting some thought and some pragmatic affirmation--- into the present moment in this post. Erwin opened this for us as a bridge for both non-christians and christians to post in.
I like the priveleges that a Christian Forum opens to us here for sharing knowledge and global cultural interests and networking with non-christians openly...
The global cultural and global spiritual differences.....
I don't like to think this forum here is limited by a situation of "groupthink" and politics that is motivated by a majority of over "Americanized" Christian behaviors. I think we, in America here, can be pretty divided ourselves as a God-fearing people...has anyone seen why we are sometimes known as the 12 tribes of American Politics---instead of the twelve religious ones----here in this country?(http://www.beliefnet.com/story/153/story_15355.html). Its a shame to see what we do with all the freedom we have in this country---the freedom of religion, the freedom of speech, the freedom of press, the freedom to do that we have here, without thinking of the cultural and spiritual divisions that we project on and at each other. If we ever have the good thought or the good thinking habits to consider what the global dimensions can offer us here--- what we are doing to them here?
I could consider sharing some quotes from Hemingway, Tom Peters, or Oscar Wilde, but I'm thinking more of the dimensions of what uncertainty orientations are, what power orientations are, what social orientations are, what time and efforts and goal orientations are in the movement of the Spirit in this forum, maybe even later here...

The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know whence it comes or whither it goes . . . .

Some local governments are experimenting with it. City Councils and the like.
Sounds great! Now all you need is some proportional representation.
