Hello. I am happy to have found this site. I grew up with word-faith type teachings (i.e. Hagin, Copeland, et al) and am just now reconciling those teachings with my faith in Christ. I still have family in this type of church and am concerned. As you can tell, I no longer believe many of these teachings are scriptural and am just looking for others who may have grown up and out of these types of churches. I'm not looking for a debate just support from people who have been there/done that and may still be dealing with family involved in these teachings. Also, since I'm new to this site, would there be a better board to post this question? Thank you so much and God bless.

Dear OreGal:

It's an understanding that everyone needs to come to individually.

Thank you for the welcome. I appreciate the kindness. I've met a number of ex-word-of-faithers recently here at home but I'd like to just be able to talk online to some as well.

You are wise in getting out of the word-faith movement. I am not a WOF but have some good friends that are in the movement. They both attended Rhema.

It is sad to see their faith hijacked and the gospel distorted. I pray for you as you search the word. Focus on the clear teachings on Jesus and the rest of the Word of God. It all puts the glory and emphasis on Jesus Christ and his glory, not on how great/rich/powerful we can be.

Thank you. Like most coming out of this 'sect', I went through a major crisis of faith. I'm now back to just trusting the Lord and living by Biblical standards. I feel like a literal fog has been lifted and I can begin to see again.

Do they believe in the same Jesus you do? Sorry but lets be truthful. I am neither but it just hurts me when both sides just know there right and the other is wrong. It reminds me of the man that said thank God I am not like that person. Well we know how Christ feels about that yet you are doing the same thing. Now you know that they will be with Jesus just like you in heaven don't you? Truthful meaing you nor I are 100% right weather you and I like it or not we need each other and Jesus said Love one another. Not to ack like I am glad to be set free from them because you were not. You believe in the SAME Jesus they do. You just don't believe the way they do. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I know you mean well but I've been hurt terribly by these beliefs and the people I know have been led very much astray. Yes, there is alot wrong with that because many folks coming out of that movement are hurting and have lost faith in God. My goal in this thread is to find others who have been hurt as well.

Oregal,

I would consider myself WoF however I'm somewhat "off the reservation" so to speak. I agree with many of the teachings and believe there is alot of abuse and manipulation in that movement.

I look forward to seeing more of you here.

God bless you.

Hi there
I am currently in a word of faith Church i think , i am wondering what do you disagree with? With all due respect I don't think OreGal is looking for or needs a debate right now regarding WoF, regardless of how she came to her conclusions does not matter she just needs some like minded believers to help her, she doesn't need us WoF people to add to her dilemma no matter if we think she is right or wrong lets be sensitive to where others are at spiritually.

There is a Wof forum here for discussion that can be used for such things.

I used to attend a WOF church myself. After 15 years in it, some things happened that caused my family (any subsequently myself) to leave the church. Since that time, over a year ago, I have been searching for a "more correct" Christianity, as it were. A Christianity rooted in the Scriptures, Traditions, Reason, and History of the ancient Church. Not only that, but a Christianity that accurately reflects what the earliest Christians and the ECF believed. So far my search has led me to the Anglican Church. I have found in the Anglican Church a manifestation of God's presence unlike anything anywhere else. In the 15 years I spent as part of a WOF church, I never once truly understood the Communion and Love of God until just this past year when I started attending an Anglican church. I thank God for freeing me from the error of the WOF movement, and for bringing me back to an ancient, historical, and catholic Christianity!!
