View Full Version : Do Messianic Jews Observe Communion?

I recently visited my friend's synagogue, and at the end of the service they passed out chala (hope that's spelled right) bread. Was this the communion? If so, it isn't like any I've been to. Isn't there supposed to be wine as well? What about the scripture readings that I've heard read along with it at most churches? I didn't hear them read at my friend's synagogue.

Is communion once a month for you?

:) didn't we just have a thread on this?? Where is our official archivist?? :)

Most Messianics do not have what the church usually means by Communion or the Eucharist as we do not believe it was something new Yeshua was ordaining but rather He was explaining the true meaning behind something old and fundamental in Judaism - the Passover :) So, we "do this in rememberance of" Him each Passover at the same spot in the service and in the same manner in which He told us to do so ;)

Whenever I go to my Christian Church (which my parents make me go to) I get so mad because all the stupid people don't understand that Yeshua was telling us to celebrate passover. And since G-D was Yeshua in the flesh, he was telling us to follow passover which celebrates him.

I've said this maybe 89 billion times here ;) But... Messianic Judaism is as varied as the colors of the rainbow. You'll find that some MJ's will observe communion while others will only observe Passover. Many feel that communion wasn't intended to replace passover.

I've done the "now that I'm Messianic, I hate normative Christianity" bit, and trust me, it isn't very productive. All you really end up doing is avoiding people who don't know anything about the Messiah's Hebrew roots. What kind of a ministry is that?

That, and calling them "stupid" will more than likely derail this thread to the point that a mod has to close it. ;)

I'd kill for a Nobel Peace prize.

and on a second thought,
why do psychics have to ask your name?

Are you feeling okay?

It makes perfect sense, like why we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway, and sorta like why there are interstate highways in Hawai'i :)

Peace!

Where did this thread go? To tell you the truth I don't really think that Christians are stupid, just misguided as we once were.

The church has the problem of holding the so called "Church fathers" in higher regard than the scriptures themselves. The traditions that excluded Torah and excluded the Jews was the heart of the new Christain religion. Jews sort of did the same thing, through the teachings of the sages made a religion which excluded the Gentiles and the grace of God that included them.

However there was another group that some call Apostolic Judaism which took a very biblical position of scripture and followed Torah according the the Halacha of Yeshua and what the disciples taught. And this group was made up of both Jews and Gentiles, both on equal standing as part of the one new man.

This is the religion - (faith), that I follow and teach others. This sometimes (usually) puts me at odds with just about everybody; Christains,
Jews and Most Messianics as well.
