Romans 7:12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
The law here is the 613 laws, right? So what is the commandment?

much like Psalm 119 where HaShem uses many terms to speak of the same thing over and over; statutes, commandment, precepts, law, instruction.....
Rom 7:12
So the Torah is holy; that is, the commandment is holy, just and good. (CJB)

If I am not mistaken, I believe that the Torah can be viewed as one huge mitzvah, or commandment, as well as being viewed as the 613 mitzvot, or commandments. So, the Torah is the commandment of G-d, as well as the commandments of G-d. This is the same as saying "the law" when "the law" is made up of many laws.
Does this make sense?
Romans 7:7
Awesome verse ;)

The commandment is "keep the law with all your heart and with all your might, in spirit and in truth'

Ok, but what about the '10 Commandments', how do they fit in here? or do they?

The 10 Commandments are part of the 613 mitzvot (sp?). They're the commandments that were originally written by G-d's own hand, whereas the others were written by Moses, even though they were given at the same time. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!
I talked to a preacher the other day at one of the churches we've recently visited, and he tried telling me that the 10 Commandments were the only ones that were important now. I didn't even point out that if he claimed to be obeying the 10 Comm., he needed to reread #4!

The law in Hebrew is literally translated Torah. Commandment is literally translated mitzvot. The commandments make up all the moral obligations for the world, and the ritual obligations for the Jewish people and their calling. The Torah, however, is the big picture. It literally means teachings. It is more than just the moral and ritual obligations, rather it is the whole nature of G-d and His plan.

So the 10 commandments couldn't be followed 'right', so God gave the 613 to help the Jews to follow the 10?

Taken out of context I would say to replace certain words and get this:
Therefore the Torah ( Y'shua the Living word) is Holy, and 'THE' commandment , HOLY ( If you love me keep my commandments ( TORAH) ~Y'shua ) and righteous and good ( only the Father in heaven is good, Y'shua in heaven being referred to) .

The 10 are included in the 613. If you take away the 10, you only have 603 left. From my understanding, many of these laws were given before Sinai (see the Laws before Sinai thread), but G-d gave them all again together as one unit at Sinai to Moses. G-d wrote 10 of them on stone tablets, but then Moses broke those tablets. The second time, Moses had to rewrite them himself, if I remember correctly from what I was just reading last night. But they were all equally a part of G-d's instructions to His people on how they should go about pleasing Him.
Does that make more sense?
