Were the Philippians Jews or Gentiles?

I was reading Phil 2:12 where Paul says "as you have always obeyed", which makes it look like they may be Jews, if they've always followed the law. But then it's a letter from Paul, and he mostly ministered to Gentiles. So can someone enlighten me?

I believe that they were a group of gentile beleivers that always followed Paul's understanding of the laws until the Judizers came along with the works of the law like circumcision which Paul was dealing with in other churches also.

He always went "to the Jew first...... and *then* to the Gentile" ;)

So does this mean we don't really know, or are we pretty sure they were Messianic Gentiles?
