I live in Israel, I will do a breakdown later of all your questions in greater length.
The people are rude, but have a great heart (thus the word sabra). They do not hate Americans, many worship us hahaha! We have very high technology, I've seen stuff here in the medical world that I have never seen in the US. You are always aware, but it really depends on where you live for your point of view of danger. If you live in a settlement like Kiryat Arba or Beth El you might consider Israel very dangerous. If you live in Jerusalem, you are very aware and may have seen something. Living in Tel Aviv, Haifa, Beer Sheva, or Eilat you tend to forget there is terror. You hear of the terror on the news as much as the Americans here it and are aquanted with it. You know its there...but it remains a news clip for you. Economically, I would say is what is the hardest part of living in Israel...try to deal with 50 percent income tax and 18 percent VAT on everything. Try to buy a car at 110 percent taxes. Try to do all this paying Switzerland type prices while making around 1,000-1500 dollars a month as a good salary. Try living 30,000 dollars in debt on bank overdraft like 90 percent of Israelis. When somebody wants to do a reform like Netanyahu, you find people like Amir Peretz striking which leaves trash in the streets ( I have seen people get sick from this), government offices closed for months on end causing buisness and personal delays. On the other hand, like we say here in Israel "Ayin como Aretz Yisrael"- there is none like the land of Israel.

This post reminded me of a question I had the other day--what happened to forgiving debts in the 7th year? Do they still practice that?

A small section in the Orthodox community practices it as a personal matter.

Went to college in Israel for a while and studied Hebrew there. Back in the relatively peaceful year of 1999.
The technological standard was very different than in the U.S. For example their cars make use of less technology... but their cell phones much more. Israelis seem to live more independent lives because of technology, where as Americans are more dependent becasue of theirs.
It isn't dangerous all the time. It is very dangerous in certain places, during certain times. The trick is knowing which places and which times.
The people (Jews, Arabs, Armenians, others) are difficult to get to know. When you do though they are all some of the nicest and most hospitable people I have ever had the chance of knowing. I can't wait for the day when the Lord opens the door for me to return there.

I thought you lived in South Florida which are more like northerners? Or is Tampa still considered North Florida and Southerners?
