I know that most of us live in America, but some people have the flag of Israel as their flag, so I sometimes get confused. :blush: Anyways I thought that I should start a post where you say where you live and what synagogues are in your town. I just thought it would be cool to see where we are all from. I'll go first.
I live in Melbourne, Florida. Melbourne is about 1hr and 30min south of Orlando on the Atlantic coast. Here we have 3 messianic synagogues, 2 conservative synagagues, and 1 orthodox synagogue. I currently don't attend any because of my age and my family is not "into" messianic Judaism, let alone understand what it is. Melbourne is pretty cool, we have about 80,000 people here and lots to do.

I live in Helena, Montana. It is often referred to by politicians as "fly over country" ^_^
We have very small groups of messianics here - reflective of many shades of thought. Because we are so small I do keep in contact with various groups around the state. I teach a small dance group and have put on workshops over the years. People have traveled from as far as Polebridge (almost 300 miles).

Well, I live in New Brunswick, New Jersey. 'Currently do not attend a synagogue as there are none around that would accept a Karaite, let alone one who even mentions the name of Jesus. Same problem with the local churches (only when one mentions the phrase "Torah observance"). :)
However, there are a group of us I assume one could call an assembly or gathering. No organization, a general agreement on creed. Usually when we have theological or philosophical conversations on the bus or at bus stops we seem to attract others into the debate or discussion.
'Won't hesitate to take someone who we've just met out to dinner or invite them along for the random stuff we do, like watch films in Mandarin, French, or German in the Library, or head over to the Rutgers Club or the local noodle shop for cheap, but delicious, food, or just hang out. :)
Peace!

Usually whatever they have at the Library :) I think the last one I saw was "Raise the Red Lantern," and it was wonderful :)

See if you can find any war films from the 70s and the 80s. Either men strapping grenades to themselves and charging Jap tanks or human waves charging Jap MG positions, all propaganda and totally cheesy.
Some Japanese ones are really good..

I live in Germany right now, but am from TN kind of, I mean that is where my dad retired from the Army to. My husband is from PA, and we met in AL. I don't go to any kind of service because we aren't comfortable in the Protestant service at the Chapel, they only have a Jewish service once a month, and I don't even know if they have ever heard of Messianics. Considering I don't speak German, I have no clue if there is even a Messianic congregation in Germany, and even if there is I wouldn't understand what they were saying anyway.
Thadman, why did you change from a Torah scroll, to a Star?

Sarasota FL - born here - back here.
We have a Chabad house, one conservative and several reform temples here
We also have a Messianic synagogue here (reformish), one about 20 miles away in Bradenton (conservative-ish), one in Tampa and one in Clearwater - both about 60-70 miles away..... There is a kosher market in St. Petersburg - about 50 miles away - go there about once a month to stock up on our meats and cheeses.
We currently don't attend any - our level of observance inevitably leads to dissention...
My fellowship is mostly with my husband and online.....

Do you find the Germans to be anti-semetic?
Katydid

I haven't found any to be actually anti-semitic, though, I wouldn't know if they were considering the only Jews to be found in Germany are basically in Berlin and Frankfurt and one small historical community somewhere near Bavaria, but not too close to me. On top of that, I live on a military installation and don't have too much contact with the Germans. I don't speak much of the language, just enough to get by, and the Euro rate is so high (We pay a dollar for about .80 euro cents) that we don't really have the money to use the german stores. (Soldiers don't get paid that much). But, I haven't noticed anything blatant as far as anti-semitism.

Oh I did want to say that the policies are definately Christian. Stores are not allowed to be open on Sunday. As a matter of fact, almost nothing is open on sunday except the Rest stops off the autobahn.

I live in Melbourne, Florida.
Wow! I live in Melbourne too.....Melbourne, Australia that is. It is situated in the South Eastern part of Australia in the State of Victoria.
I think there are about 1 to 1 1/2 million people here.
It's a great city to live in, in Australia because it is very cultural.
You can find just about any kind of food from any part of the world here, and the coffee...well you can find the best cappuccino in just about any of the hundreds of great cafes here.
Melbourne is best known for its great cafes and restaurants.
It's pretty cold in winter (although it doesn't snow) and the summers can get very hot 40 degrees celsius, but are short lived.
There is one Messianic group here called "Celebrate Messiah" which is a Jews for Jesus congregation, and that is not what I'm about, so I do not attend.
The net is my only connection with like-minded believers, and my Dad who lives in Spain but is totally computer illiterate.
There is a pretty large Jewish community here in Melbourne and several synagogues, but I find them a bit intimidating. (just me being afraid of the unknown).
P.S. Can you USA residents expand on the name of your residence as I do not know where you are talking about if you say... eg."I'm from PA"????
With thanks from Bon

I was born in Guam because my parents were in the military. I grew up in Middle Tennessee (Nashville, Smyrna, Murfreesboro). I also lived in Pensacola two years for Bible School at Brownsville Revival. I lived in Hod HaSharon, Israel for three months and came back to Tennessee to start our ministry for six months. For the past two years I lived in Tel Aviv (the Tikva neighborhood) and Bnei Brak (small orthodox city next to Tel Aviv) Israel, I am moving next month to Ramat Bet Shemesh (near Jerusalem).
My rule is if there is no congregation, start one. I have gone to a growing Israeli Hebrew-speaking only (yes, I had to struggle through speaking no English when I led) messianic congregation in Tel Aviv and was their youth pastor. Now I am joining a messianic apostolic team based out of Jerusalem.

Cool, I always wanted to go there. A guy from Austrilia came here to Florida and named the town after where he was from. I know this girl, on the net, from Austrilia and she asked me about Jews for Jesus, and that is not what we are about either. Anyways nice to meet you, are you new? Because I have never seen you here on the borad before.

Henaynei,
Thank you for that list of States of USA.
Just for those of you who would like to know our shortened versions of the States of Australia, all 6 states and 2 territories.
Victoria = Vic
New South Wales = NSW
South Australia = SA
Western Australia = WA
Queensland = QLD
Tasmania = Tas
Northern Territory = NT
Australian Capital Territory = ACT
Not terribly complicated really. :)
With thanks from Bon
P.S. I'm very excited that I finally got 50 blessings to 'buy' my signature.
It was worth every blessing and they didn't come easy. :)

Wow--two other Tennesseans here! I grew up in Middle Tennessee in the Manchester/Tullahoma area. (Katydid, what part of TN did you live in?) And for Bon's information, Tennessee is in the southeastern portion of the US! :)
I went to college at University of TN at Martin, which is in a small town in West TN. That's where my husband and I met. We then lived in Memphis for a few years while we worked on our graduate degrees. 2 1/2 years ago we moved to NE Georgia (Bon, that's just south of TN) while I was pregnant with our first child so we could be closer to my mom.
There is one Messianic group of sorts (I wouldn't call them a synagogue, really) that's about 45-60 min away. But since we have two small children, that's too far to go. There are several synagogues in the Atlanta area; in fact, some of my family has attended one off and on in the past. I'm hoping to go every now and then for special occasions once the girls are a little older. As for kosher food and restaurants, we have one grocery store in town, period. We don't even have a Wal-Mart, so once we really get into figuring out what's kosher and what's not, I'm not sure how closely we'll even be able to follow it. We already gave up pork and non-kosher seafood, but that's about it.
I just discovered one little congregation about 20 min away that worships on the Sabbath because it's the Sabbath, not just for the sake of being different. I'm hoping to visit sometime this month. Maybe we'll find other Torah-observant believers there! :prayer:

My dad retired to Dover which is about 40 min. west of Clarksville. Then when my husband was stationed at Fort Campbell we lived in Clarksville.

Hi, Katydid
I don't think I've ever been to Clarksville, but I've been in that vicinity. In fact, my husband's parents still live near Jackson, and we're going to visit them this week. Do you ever get back much?
