View Full Version : Where are the manners and respect in today's society?

I have one question...

Where are the manners and respect in society today? I've noticed that very, very, very few people these days have any manners or respect whatsoever, at least in New Zealand...

I was one of only a few people on a huge full bus that said thank you to the driver, today. Although we essentially paid for him to drive us to our location, a thank you shouldn't be, and ISN'T too much to ask... :sigh:

Then you get the people blowing smoke in the face of others in a non-smoking area, then throwing their half-used cigarettes onto the road, where they could easily catch someone on fire, or fling up into their eyeball blinding them...

Or how about young thugs catching buildings on fire or painting their **** slogans all around the town, and pushing older people out of the way so they can be the first person on a bus or train?

This is only 1% of experiences I have had this past week where people have had no manners or respect for others. Where are the manners? Is this the age where manners become extinct alltogether?

What can we as a people do to help change the way people treat others? Is this something only seen here in New Zealand, or is it a world-wide thing. :help:

Well, considering that it is thoroughly ingrained in virtually everyone on earth today from a young age that man is just an intelligent ape and that there are no absolutes regarding morality it shouldn't be surprising that people act like intelligent animals. If it feels good, do it. Now it's been years since I picked up a Satanic Bible but I do remember that is one of the key tenets. Self worship, self centeredness, self absorption. No one else matters except in how they can serve or benefit ME.

I think Al pretty well summed up today's society in that little statement. :(

Yes, while I believe there are still a lot of good people out there, it is very frustrating to be exposed to the ones who are so self-absorbed that they could care less about others. A couple summers ago I fell in a parking lot and hurt my shoulder fairly bad. As I lay there on the concrete, in too much pain to speak, I watched several people walk right past me, glance at me, and continue on their merry way. No one even asked if I was okay! And to think, I don't live in a big city where self-preoccupation is the norm. I live in small town USA, so this kind of thing is prevalent everywhere. We just have to keep the focus on our own salvation, and try to reflect Christ to society in every way we can.

=( dang, Elizaveta - a true "Good Samaratan" story...minus the Good Samaritan...

I think rudeness is a result of the decrease of culpability all the world round...

Nobody feels like their responsible for their actions anymore. If you do something mean, you can blame your parents, your upbringing, your religion - whatever.

If you're not responsible for what you do, why bother doing good? Being rude and mean feels better, and when people get mad at you, hey, it's not your fault.

=(

The day I had today made me realise there are indeed still nice people out there. They are just being outnumbered by the ignorant ones.

Matthias, are you reading the words you've been writing?

So where are the manners and respect?

Very funny. Obviously you have mis-interpreted what I've been saying in my posts. That's the problem with the lack of "tone". When I tell someone to do something, I could either be shouting at them to do it, or kindly suggesting it...

I have perfect manners and respect. I wish other people had the same...

Wow, that's some nice contrition and humility you have there...

Matthew,

Please ignore these inflaming remarks made by others. Go watch a movie or pray.

TAW has become a cat and dog fight. It's just not right.

This is a time of prayer and fasting.

Why are we judging others.

lovingly in Christ,
Elizabeth

Thank you Elizabeth. I think I am going to go and relax and play my guitar. Thank you for keeping me in your prayers. You are a wonderful person. *hugs*. :)
