Interpreting the word of God with the Holy Spirit's help according to what the Author is intending to say, not what we want to read into it. The above answer is good, too.

This comes from 2 Tim 2:15 and the above interpretations are very good and correct.

What does "Rightly dividing the Word" mean to yaul?
I believe it means meditating on the Word, digesting it, pondering it's meaning, looking at it from various angles--in short, to study it under God's Holy Spirit.

I think it means to read the Word, and ask the Holy Spirit to give it meaning for you and apply it to your life. And you have to read it continuosly. Even after you've read the whole bible, read it again. The same passage might have a different meaning for you when you are in a different situation.

What does "Rightly dividing the Word" mean to yaul?
It means dividing th Bible according to revealed truth. The basic example is the division of the Bible into two testaments, Old and New. These can be further divided into (seven) dispensations whereby God has dealt differently with different individuals or groups. e.g. the dispensations of Law and Spirit/Grace. Scofield wrote a book entiled Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth which sets out beautifully what it means.

AV1611,
That's what I have always thought. Know who God is talking to in each situation thereby applying it correctly to our lives. Thank you all for your response.

What does "Rightly dividing the Word" mean to yaul? Here is a paraphrase drawn from various translations, which, as it means to me, explains what it is to rightly divide the Word:
"Be eager and diligent in your studying, And do your utmost to present yourself approved unto Elohim (G`d), As a workman who has no need to be ashamed, rightly dividing, correctly analyzing, accurately handling, skillfully teaching and keeping on a Derekh’ Yashar (Straight Path) the D’var ha Emeth (Word of Truth)."
~2 Timothiyos/2 Timothy 2:15
Rightly Dividing the Word has to do with the interpretation thereof.
Correctly Analyzing it carefully word by word, not only in your own language, but also in the original languages.
Accurately Handling it, keeping it in context, not letting one word of it be broken or removed, for any interpretation of the Word that contradicts, cancells out or confuses the plain text and its context is a false interpretation.
Skillfully Teaching is self explanitory.
And keeping on a Derekh' Yashar (Straight Path), is saying that we are to keep the Word on a straight path. This is a metaphor that has to do with living according to it's teaching honestly and righteously before G`d and man.
in Yeshua...
