Glorified

Good Morning my brothers and sisters of Christ! Hope all is well with everyone today.
I love Mondays because I can reflect on the wonderful things that I experienced on Sunday. Thank you Jesus!!!
OK, I was curious about Fasting and Prayer. I realize that this is a personal topic and is better left not talked about. I'm just curious to how many here have done this and how long. Also what kind of spiritual experiences you recieved, what your spiritual goals were.
I know that there are several ways to Fast but in this instance I'm speaking of food. One gentleman I know Fast for 40 days. I realize that this could be dangerous, but in Prayer Im certain God will protect you.
I don't think I can do 40 days, but if the Lord calls me to do so what choice do I have?
So the real reason for this thread is to maybe get a better understanding of Fasting and Prayer. I hope that some of you on here are able to respond and shed some light on this topic.
I love you all and God Bless!

Ok, either this is something that you do not talk about at all or no one has done this.
Sorry to put you guys on the spot. I was just trying to learn more about from a physical stand point.
Sorry about that.

No reason to be sorry. We have a whole forum here dedicated just to the subject of fasting. http://christianforums.com/f371
The late Dr. Bill Bright wrote an excellent article about how to fast properly. http://www.billbright.com/7steps/ It's pretty much viewed as something the more mature Christians undertake and some Christians get discouraged in their spiritual walk when they fail to meet their goals. But then, we were never told this was all fun and games.

I have fasted on occasions when I was seeking God's specific will for my life, i.e. should I live here, should I take this particular job, etc.
My goal was simply to ignore the needs of my flesh and listen wholeheartedly to the still, small voice of my Saviour. I have never been disappointed. (knock, and it shall be opened unto you...)
I have fasted from 3 to 7 days. I might fast longer if I truly felt a need, but so far I have not.
God bless you in your efforts to come closer to Him.

I've never done more than a 24 hour fast, but even that was a great experience for me. The fasts I've done were church-wide fasts and God really moved in our church during that time.

As a Catholic I fasted (to an extent) for the 40 days of lent.
I would "give up" something, refined sugars, or pop or whatever.
I would also not eat meat on Fridays
I would say the rosary (some years)
I never liked doing it, it wasn't helpful, I didn't do it because I felt it would make me closer to God... I did it because I was "supposed to". (stinks to admit that!)
I haven't fasted in a few years.. and haven't felt compelled to. Right now my main concentration is to just finnish reading my bible... I'm trying to go cover to cover right now.. and then I'll go back and re-study some of the books. I'm enjoying it.

You know glorified, I have found a website, that is just wonderful for fasting.
Its called Setting the Captives free.com. Go to the Lords Table and it will take you on a course. I went though a couple of weeks on it, but I had to give it up because I am selling my house and just could not complete it. It really taught me how to fast, why we fast, why we eat what we eat, how to prepare for a fast etc. It was very educational and I really liked it. I plan to get back on the course when we sell this house. Well in that case, maybe I NEED to fast to get the Lord to answer my prayer!
Hope this helps

I have fasted once before and honestly that was one of the most spiritual times of my life. I mean God was truly by my side, not to say that He always isn't, but He was just there in a more personal way. It was amazing how He kept food out of my mind, even when my wife and I took the kids swimming and they were cooking a very nice smelling pizza lol. But He is faithful.
I did my fast for 3 days and just to have that closeness with God is truly worth doing it for a longer period, but how long you fast is up to God. But during that time I did not eat and I only drank water or juices. It is definitely a blessful time and something as Christians we should all do when we felt lead to do so. Talk about a God experience.
