To Life Immortal
Last Sunday, Fr. James told us another fast begins on 1 August. It is for the Feast of Dormition. I found a good webpage about it at the goarch website.
It is time to stock up on veggies, fruits and soy products. I drank the last of the soy milk this week and will buy some more later. I am seriously thinking of becoming a full-time vegetarian again. Seems like since I've been Orthodox, I don't like meat as much anymore.

Hooray!   (Ha ha ha, I never thought I'd say that about a fast period...)
I'm really excited about finally getting to see Transfiguration and a Paraklesis!

When and how often is the Paraklesis done during the Dormition fast?

Every night in some parishes, but in mine we can only do it once. Our priest has two parishes that are 50 miles apart, plus a full-time job, so we can only stretch him so far. :)

Thanks!:) I'm going to have to check with some parishes to see if any are going to do the Paraklesis this week sometime. I've listened to it on the www.goarch.org (http://www.goarch.org) site and thought it was beautiful. I'd love to see it done.

I wish I could find the words to it. My dial up won't let me listen to things on line. (I have poor phone line reception that interferes.)

www.goarch.org/en/chapel/chant.asp (http://www.goarch.org/en/chapel/chant.asp)
There are a variety of services you can either read or listen to. If you select "Paraklesis" you will see the service written out.

Oh, and after you click on Paraklesis, then you click on the link that says "Learn to chant the Paraklesis."

I wish I could go to Liturgy on Transfiguration, but I have to work on that Friday. :(
At least I'll definitely be able to celebrate the Dormition, seeing as it's on a Sunday!
