Hello everybody,
I am just wondering if your church has a weekly altar call. If so, how many people normally respond to the invitation to receive Christ?

Just a quick question if you don't mind ^_^ What is your interest on the topic exactley? (are you trying to see if they are effective, if they are biblically correct, anything like that?)

I thought it could just start a good discussion. I attend a church in my college hometown where there is a weekly altar call and around 5 people usually accept Christ.

Oh ok, I see ^_^... funny, I was just posting in a thread similar to this one in the Pentecostla/Charismatic section (except it was mainly about "sinners' prayers"). You might want to check it out if you have time, it's very interesting. But in general, I think when alter calls are done and they are carried out correctly, they can be very effective!

No. We do have alter calls occasionally, but as the spirit leads. Given we're a small church (30 or so) we usually only have the one who commits.

I used to be part of a Church that had a weekly altar call--but sometimes no one would respond, and it was ok. It was an invitation for all those who either needed to accept Christ for the first time and be baptized, wanted to join the Church, needed prayer, or wanted to re-dedicate their lives. I think it was done rather well--not high-pressure so that if no one come someone would do so just to shut the preacher up. The sense of urgency to accept Christ as your personal Lord and savior was always there, though.
In Christ,

I am just wondering, but if your church doesn't have an altar call (so far 50% is that way), what is your reasoning for not having an altar call? Also, how big is your church? I am wondering if the smaller churches go more towards no altar call and the larger churches the opposite.

My family (my hubby, myself and our kids) doesn't really attend any one church, so that would be a no for us. But I did notice the last time I went to my parents church (Southern Baptist) they actually didn't have an alter call, I was in shock.
Why was I in shock you may ask, well.... being raised in the Southern Baptist church, I don't remember a service where they didn't have an alter call. It was actually refreshing to see one that didn't.
