I posted this in the prayers for the departed thread, but I wanted to put it here, too. I just found out that my cousin Wyatt was found murdered earlier this week. I can hardly believe it. Please pray for his soul. Thank you.

I don't even hardly recognize him in this picture. That's what drugs does to people, I guess. :( I'm sure this had something to do with a drug deal gone bad. But despite what he'd done, I still knew him as family, someone that I looked forward to playing hide and seek with some 20 years ago, when he'd come see us on Saturdays. It's been years since I've seen him. I just wish the last time I'd know of him wouldn't be under these circumstances.

Thank you for your prayers and please do keep praying for him. Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on and save your servant Wyatt.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on the soul of Wyatt and grant him eternal life, for who among us lives and does not sin, O Lover of mankind, have mercy on him.

May his memory be eternal.

I just talked to Katherine (she's at work) and told her what people had written. Thank you all so much for your prayers- they really mean a lot to her. It's getting more difficult the more we think about it. I never knew him, but he gave Katherine some wonderful memories as a child. In that news story it said that he was a student at a community college. He was 39. When you go to college at 39, it's because you want to change, you want to have a normal life. I think he wanted to stop doing drugs and get on the right track. I think he had a repentent heart. If you've ever had an addiction, you understand that you can sincerely desire to stop with all your heart, but your mind and soul are so damaged that like a dog you keep returning to your vomit. I pray that when he is judged he will present God with a heart that desired to know Him and sought Him. I can't help but think that if somebody hadn't murdered him, he might have found Him. I pray that he is in a place of blessedness. I pray that the prayers of all the Saints during this season of the Dormition would be a comfort and refuge for his soul. As we sing to the Theotokos in comemmoration of her falling asleep, I pray that all of our songs would be used for the peace of all the souls of the dead. I hope I don't sound preachy. This is getting heavy on my heart. It wasn't so much at first, but the more I think about it, the heavier it gets. I don't know why God would spare me from Wyatt's fate, or any drunk or addict for that matter. He is merciful and good. He alone is the Lover of Mankind, and I pray that His Glory would be made manifest in this tragedy. Lord have mercy on us all, esessially Thy servant Wyatt.
