View Full Version : True Submission to God

we see many doctines in the church today who do not want God for everything that he is.

Some want the Lion without the Lamb, such as the prosperity people.

Some want the Lamb without the Lion, such as the progressive church movements.

But you can't have one without the other. Jesus must be both Savior and Lord, or he will be neither.

Jesus purchased you on the cross. Whether you like it or not, you belong to God on two counts: one, he made you to begin with, and two, he died for you.

So to me, there is a certain prayer of submission that one must be willing to pray to truly dedicate their lives to Christ. For different people this works differently and comes in different stages of their life and walk with Christ, but here is a summary of such a prayer.

"Dear heavenly Father,
Thank you for saving my soul through you Son Jesus and his death on the cross.
Lord I dedicate my life to you and give you free reign in my life.
I only want to go where you want me to go.
I only want to say what you want me to say.
I only want to do what you want me to do.
Though you have already purchased me, I give my life to you freely because you are my Lord and Master and Savior and I only want to do your will.
Heavenly Father, I cannot do your will in my own strength, but I ask that the Holy Spirit would reside in me and live my life for me.
Root out every sin in my life and cause me to live a righteous life in Christ, not for my glory, for your Glory and Honor.
In Jesus' name, amen."

Now this is very much like the model prayer, except to me it is a prayer of total self denial. Don't make a ritual out of this, that isn't the point. The point is, to sell out to Jesus.

How much do you want to live for Jesus? Do you want a "little" Jesus in your life? or everything he has?

Jesus said, "Deny yourself and take up the cross daily and follow me."

In that verse, "Deny" is the greek "aparneomai", and means:

"Deny utterly," "disown," "abstain"

So it literally means to disown yourself and follow Jesus.

To me, this is the way Jesus prayed in the garden.
It is also virtually opposite of what the Prosperity and Word of Faith teachers on television teach.

It is the opposite of fast-food christianity, because we are the Lord's servants and we belong to him.

Amen. I agree with what you said. As humans we fall short of that mark, we just don't measure up to Jesus. You mentioned the prayer in the garden, the total submission of Jesus to the Father, that is such a beautiful thing.

I find that sometimes even though I submit to Jesus, there are times in life when I identify most with the words "the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak" ... Sometimes I feel like don't have the strength to fully submit, to let go, but Jesus even helps me with that. It's just amazing how with Christ leading the way and helping us conquer the sin nature by turning to Him for strength and guidance we are truly set free.

Total submission to Jesus means total freedom from the burden of sin, I love that!!!

Wow! I find that I totally agree with you on this Wade! In fact, our church had a message this past Sunday about the very same thing.:amen:

Thank you for your post! Good word!

I must take issue, however with the statement here quoted. My church is not a "Word of Faith" church, but I am a WOF adherent at this messageboard according to its statement of belief, which best describes what we believe.

I agree with all that the OP says, yet I see nothing that goes against the WOF beliefs. There are those, however, that espouse some erroneous beliefs, but I see no disagreement here.

Just be careful when painting with a broad brush.

I'm going to have to agree with you wade. The thing is, when you talk about "selling out" to Jesus, different people will give you different ways.

I know people who will say "Yea, I've totally sold out to Jesus, BUT." We have to many "BUT" christians. It's like, "Yea, you're not selling out to Jesus because you still do this, BUT I sold out to Jesus long ago...but errr uhhh I still do this and that or I'm still involved with this or that."

I guess I'm saying all of this to say, I totally agree. I guess the next step is, "What does it mean to sell out to Jesus in our lives today."

The prayers is simple enough. But I find people speaking the same thing but making excuses of why thay don't.

Please note: I'm not accusing you of this, but I'm surely accusing some people who I've come across.

I believe that true submission is when you realise that it's not about you, and never was. It's all about Christ! True submission is when you realise that you will never live up to God's expectations and to give up on trying to, and lean on Christ who already has. Then, and only then, will one truly be submissive...till then it's just empty filthy rags that you are trying to serve God with.
