View Full Version : Grain of mustard seed

I was just on the way back from filling the car up at the gas station, and I was listening to "Sound Radio" 89.7 FM.

There was one of these little shorts that they run between programming,a nd she was basicly talking about dong good things, and the speaker says words to this effect.

"Even though we can't do healings and miracles like Jesus and the apostles..."

Upon hearing this, I was like, "Oh my..."

Where is the faith?

Where is that mustard seed? Jesus said all you need is faith as a grain of mustard seed.

Jesus commanded his disciples to heal the sick, to do miracles, cast out devils and so on.

Mark 16:15And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

and

James 5:14Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Understand this, God has been performing miracle healings since the days of Abraham and Sarah, and not one thing in his word says he's ever changed that.

People gave up on God. God didn't give up on us.

"By his stripes ye were healed".

Now I know Peter was refering to Spiritual healing, but it also applies to the physical.

It is a small wonder that we have ineffectual churches today.

If peopel cannot believe God for the natural, how will they believe him for the Spiritual?

But where is the faith? Jesus spoke of a mustard seed's worth of faith being able to move mountains, and here people who are supposedly PREACHERS don't even believe in miracle healing any more.

But "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God."

If they had read the Bible, instead of one another's commentaries, they would have known that God has always performed miracles and still does to this day, and he uses the Gifts of the Spirit to do this.

Well, there are two sides of the coin of course. The other side are people that are hyper sensationalists that treat the Holy Spirit more like a vending machine. It comes to be more about the power and less about the nature and will of God.

I do believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are still in play today, but I’ve observed the other side of the coin in which such acts of “faith” seem far more like a gimmick to obtain a following and riches rather than an aid to spread the gospel to the world. Sure they spread a form of the gospel, but often times it is mixed with false doctrines that leave some of their followers void of faith, because of their inability to reproduce health and wealth that these powers supposedly bring. I’m far more fearful of that side of the coin, myself. After all, Satan can undoubtedly come with lying wonders.

a seed knows what to do once placed in the proper environment....
water, warmth, carbon dioxide....grow, produce after its own kind...bear fruit...

basically the same thing James speaks of in chapter 2 an effectual doer of what they hear....go and do some thing with your faith....

the key to the parable of the sower ...seed is the word -rom 10.17 ; ground your heart , your faith , your church ; fruit is a fuction of your maturity and perserverence....

Well, to all of that I agree.

But when I hear a so-called Christian "minister" on a well known radio station effectively say, "God doesn't do miracles any more," it makes me question whether that person even knows the Lord at all in the first place.

I've seen at least one true "miracle" healing. Not the minor healings like "God healed me of a cold".

Great, praise God. I know he heals people of "minor" ailments also, and thats wonderful and I thank God and don't downplay that.

But what I'm talking about is a leg growing out by several inches through prayer in Jesus' name. I saw this about 15-16 years ago at a little non-denominational church in Albany Louisiana. There was no possibility of hoax of any kind, it was a small church of about 40-50 members.

the guest speaker that day, who's name I do not remember(because I only saw him once in my life), is the man who was healed. He had walked with a limp for many years after an automobile accident, He had been drunk, I believe, and one of his legs was several inches shorter than the other from the operation after it was shattered in the accident.

The pastor's name was Joseph Puma.

Anyway, after the guest speaker finished preaching and giving testimony, there was a man there who's last name was Wascom, can't remember the first name right now, I was just a kid then, but he was a regular member, older man, probably 55-60 years old at that time. He stood up and read a scripture from the Bible that I honestly didn't understand what the relevance was at the time, but it was of course forgiveness. Some injuries happen for "no reason at all" other than to give glory to God, others happen because of sin. So brother Wascom stood up and read this:

Matthew 18:23Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.

24And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
25But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
26The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
27Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
28But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.
29And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
30And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.
31So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.
32Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:
33Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?
34And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. 35So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

After he had read that, he told everyone to gather around and he had the gentleman sit down in a chair. I was standing about 2-3 feet away watching him pray, and we could see the one leg being several inches shorter than the other, both knees straight, as he pulled up his pants legs so we could see.

So he prayed to the father in Jesus' name, and I watched that leg grow out right on the spot in a matter of a few seconds. There were people present who could testify that he had been like that for decades. Watched him get up and jump around and walk on a perfectly healed leg just as long as the other one.

Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever.

He's still healing today, but even Jesus won't heal without faith.
