View Full Version : Are we following the traditions of men?

Hey everyone, I've been looking into Sabbath for a little while now and the more I look into it the more I come to the conclusion it's on saturday, not sunday. I know alot of people will want to debate about that but I just wanted post this article I found online. To me it raises alot of interesting points whether you agree with it or not. Obviously I post this knowing there will be opposition but just read it and draw your own conclusions. God bless!
"Today I want to answer the question which so many listeners have been concerned about since our first broadcast on the Sabbath question. How did the change take place, substituting Sunday for Saturday as the day of worship? This is possibly one of the most disturbing religious questions among thinking Christians today. Unfortunately, the issue is not examined publicly very often for reasons that we’ll consider today. But multitudes have wondered when, how and why the change came about. We have established in previous broadcasts that the Bible itself speaks with absolute consistency on this subject.
In both Old and New Testament there is not a shadow of variation in the doctrine of the Sabbath. The seventh day, Saturday, is the only day ever designated by the term Sabbath in the entire Bible. Not only was Jesus a perfect example in observing the weekly seventh-day Sabbath, but all His disciples followed the same pattern after Jesus had gone back to heaven. Yet no intimation of any change of the day is made. The apostle Paul, who wrote pages of counsel about lesser issues of Jewish and Gentile conflicts, had not one word to say about any controversy over the day of worship. Circumcision, foods offered to idols, and other Jewish customs were readily challenged by early Gentile Christians in the church, but the weightier matter of weekly worship never was an issue. Why? For the simple reason that no change was made from the historic seventh day of Old Testament times, and from creation itself. Had there been a switch from the Sabbath to the first day of the week, you can be sure the controversy would have been more explosive than any other to those Jewish Christians.
If the change did not take place in the Scriptures or through the influence of the apostles, when and how did it happen? In order to understand this, we must understand what happened in that early church soon after the apostles passed off the stage of action. Paul had prophesied that apostasy would take place soon after his departure. He said there would be a falling away from the truth. One doesn’t have to read very far in early church history to see just how that prophecy was fulfilled. Gnosticism began to rise up under the influence of philosophers who sought to reconcile Christianity with Paganism. At the same time, a strong anti-Jewish sentiment became more widespread. Very speculative interpretations began to appear regarding some of the great doctrines of Christ and the apostles.
By the time Constantine was established as the emperor of Rome in the early fourth century, there was a decided division in the church as a result of all these factors. I think most of you know that Constantine was the first so-called Christian emperor of the Roman Empire. The story of his conversion has become very well known to students of ancient history. He was marching forth to fight the battle of Milvian Bridge when he had some kind of vision, and saw a flaming cross in the sky. Underneath the cross were the Latin words meaning “In this sign conquer.” Constantine took this as an omen that he should be a Christian, and his army as well. He declared all his pagan soldiers to be Christians, and became very zealous to build up the power and prestige of the church. Through his influence great blocks of pagans were taken into the Christian ranks. But, friends, they were still pagan at heart, and they brought in much of the paraphernalia of sun-worship to which they continued to be devoted. We mentioned in a previous broadcast about the adoption of Christmas and Easter into the church. At the same time, many other customs were Christianized and appropriated into the practice of the church as well.
You see, at that time the cult of Mithraism or sun-worship was the official religion of the Roman Empire. It stood as the greatest competitor to the new Christian religion. It had its own organization, temples, priesthood, robes—everything. It also had an official worship day on which special homage was given to the sun. That day was called “The Venerable Day of the Sun.” It was the first day of the week, and from it we get our name Sunday. When Constantine pressed his pagan hordes into the church they were observing the day of the sun for their adoration of the sun god. It was their special holy day. In order to make it more convenient for them to make the change to the new religion, Constantine accepted their day of worship, Sunday, instead of the Christian Sabbath which had been observed by Jesus and His disciples. Remember that the way had been prepared for this already by the increasing anti-Jewish feelings against those who were accused of putting Jesus to death. Those feelings would naturally condition many Christians to swing away from something which was held religiously by the Jews. It is therefore easier to understand how the change was imposed on Christianity through a strong civil law issued by Constantine as the Emperor of Rome. The very wording of that law, by the way, can be found in any reliable encyclopedia. Those early Christians, feeling that the Jews should not be followed any more than necessary, were ready to swing away from the Sabbath which was kept by the Jews.
Some of you may be greatly surprised by the explanation I’ve just made, and I’m not going to ask you to believe it blindly. I have before me a multitude of authorities to verify what has been said. Here are historians, Catholics and Protestants, speaking in harmony about what actually took place in the fourth century. After Constantine made the initial pronouncement and legal decree about the change, the Catholic Church reinforced that act in one church council after another. For this reason, many, many official statements from Catholic sources are made, claiming that the church made the change from Saturday to Sunday. But before I read those statements I shall refer to one from the Encyclopedia Britannica under the article, Sunday. Notice: “It was Constantine who first made a law for the proper observance of Sunday and who appointed that it should be regularly celebrated throughout the Roman empire.” Now you can check these statements in your own encyclopedias or go to the library and look into other historical sources.
Here is a statement from Dr. Gilbert Murray, M.A., D.Litt., LLD, FBA, Professor of Greek at Oxford University, who certainly had no ax to grind concerning Christian thought on the Sabbath question. He wrote: “Now since Mithras was the sun, the Unconquered, and the sun was the Royal Star, the religion looked for a king whom it could serve as a representative of Mithras upon earth. The Roman Emperor seemed to be clearly indicated as the true king. In sharp contrast to Christianity, Mithraism recognized Caesar as the bearer of divine grace. It had so much acceptance that it was able to impose on the Christian world its own sun-day in place of the Sabbath; its sun’s birthday, the 25th of December, as the birthday of Jesus.” History of Christianity in the Light of Modern Knowledge.
Looking a bit further into historical statements, Dr. William Frederick says: “The Gentiles were an idolatrous people who worshipped the sun, and Sunday was their most sacred day. Now in order to reach the people in this new field, it seems but natural as well as necessary to make Sunday the rest day of the church. At this time it was necessary for the church to either adopt the Gentile’s day or else have the Gentiles change their day. To change the Gentiles day would have been an offense and stumbling block to them. The church could naturally reach them better by keeping their day.” There it is, friends, a clear explanation by Dr. Frederick as to how this change happened. Another statement very parallel to this one is found in the North British Review.
But let’s move on to a statement from the Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. 4, p. 153. “The church after changing the day of rest from the Jewish Sabbath or seventh-day of the week to the first, made the third commandment refer to Sunday as the day to be kept holy as the Lord’s day.”
Now a quote from the Catholic Press newspaper in Sidney, Australia. “Sunday is a Catholic institution and its claims to observance can be defended only on Catholic principles. From the beginning to end of Scripture there is not a single passage that warrants the transfer of weekly public worship from the last day of the week to the first.”
The Catholic Mirror of September 23, 1894, puts it this way: “The Catholic Church for over one thousand years before the existence of a Protestant by virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday to Sunday.”
To point up the claims we’re talking about, I want to read from two Catechisms. First, from the Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine by Reverend Peter Giermann. “Question: Which is the Sabbath day? Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath day. Question: Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday? Answer: We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church in the Council of Laodicea transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.”
Second, from Reverend Steven Keenan’s Doctrinal Catechism we read this: “Question: Have you any other way of proving that the Church has power to institute festivals of precept? Answer: Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her; she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday, the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday, the seventh day; a change for which there is no Scriptural authority.”
Then from Cardinal Gibbons’ book, The Question Box, p.179, “If the Bible is the only guide for the Christian, then the Seventh-day Adventist is right in observing Saturday with the Jew. Is it not strange that those who make the Bible their only teacher should inconsistently follow in this matter the tradition of the Catholic Church?”
One more statement taken from the book, The Faith of Millions, p. 473. “But since Saturday, not Sunday, is specified in the Bible, isn’t it curious that non-Catholics who profess to take their religion directly from the Bible and not from the Church, observe Sunday instead of Saturday? Yes, of course, it is inconsistency but this change was made about fifteen centuries before Protestantism was born, and by that time the custom was universally observed. They have continued the custom even though it rests upon the authority of the Catholic Church and not upon an explicit text from the Bible. That observance remains as a reminder of the Mother Church from which the non-Catholic sects broke away like a boy running away from home but still carrying in his pocket a picture of his mother or a lock of her hair.”
That is a most interesting statement, is it not, friends? And it is a very true statement. There is some inconsistency somewhere along the line, because we have examined the statements of history, and you can check them for yourself in any library. I’m not reading anything one-sided here at all. I’ve tried to give you an unbiased picture. Although we have seen the claims made by the Catholic Church in their publications, we are not reading them to cast any reflection upon anyone, by any means. We are simply bringing you a recital of what has been written and what claims have been made."

Of course it takes practically no study time to know that the "Sabbath Day" was the 7th day. In fact scripture to back it up is not necessary...
The question is: Are you wanting to be bound to the Law of Moses? One cannot pick and choose which Laws one wants to keep. If you are bound by one Law, you are bound by ALL the Law; scripture plainly states that. The Law, though being perfect, is a Law unto death. The New Covenant is a Law unto eternal life. The Law had to be satisfied. Thanks be to Jesus the Christ that He fulfilled the Law, thus "having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross." Col 2:14
Also see Hebrews chapters 3 and 4.
And the book of Romans, and Galatians, and Hebrews... Gosh, the whole writings of Paul, actually!
And please remember: "So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths" Col 2:16

Well I'd disagree with you on the no study time, considering the majority of Christians believe Sabbath is on Sunday not Saturday. This was something that confused me and yes I actually did feel the need to look into it. I understand that you believe we have no rules or laws except to love God and one another, I've heard it from other's and that's fine. I'm not here to judge your beliefs, as you clearly stated, we shouldn't judge..... of course, that includes you. Although to point out something, isn't to judge, so I find it strange that because I bring up Sabbath, people usually always claim you're judging them. I'm simply sharing with them, so there's no reason to be offended. Instead of retyping the same discussion I've had on here previously, I'll simply quote some Scriptures you may find interesting reguarding the Law and the 10 commandments. Does our freedom in Christ mean we're not under ANY laws of God? We can live as we want as long as we claim it's for God? Can we know how to love God if we don't know His 10 commandments, which tell us how to love God? Can we love other's if we don't know His 10 commandments, which tell us how to love our fellow man? Did Jesus waste time explaining the 10 commandments? Is it bondage to obey God's commandments? Now, let me just say that we can do nothing that earns God's Love or Salvation! But as I've said before, if we love God, we do as He says. Here's a quote of something I wrote elsewhere on here. I'm not claiming to understand all about the law and what is or what is not done away with but if you read Scripture and believe it for what it says, you'll see the 10 commandments are not done away with. Which means Sabbath is not done away with. God bless!
Jesus said in John 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments." and further on in that same chapter Jesus says in verse 21 "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him." And this Scripture in 1 John 5:2-3 "By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous." Also just a side note, if God's commandments weren't for us, why did Jesus take so much time in explaining them to us? If they were going to be done away with, why waist time teaching about them? And in John 15:9-10 Jesus again says, "As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love." How do we abide in Jesus' love, He says by keeping His commandments. 1 John 3:24 "And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us."
And how do we know we know Jesus, in 1 John 2:3, it says "And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments." and in the next verse it makes it crystal clear, verse 4 "He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." So if we claim to know Jesus but refuse to keep His commandments, it says we're liars.
Here is another Scripture that may be of interest. 1 John 3:22 "And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight."
And these next Scriptures I think are especially important because it's talking about those who are saved.
Revelation 12:17 "And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." I know people have so many interpretations of Revelations and to be honest, I don't understand it myself really but in this verse one thing is clear, it's those who keep God's commandments AND have the testimony of Jesus Christ who the dragon is going after.
And in Revelations 22:14 "Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city." Who has right to the tree of life? Well according to this Scripture, it's those that keep God's commandments.
Revelations 14:12 "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus." See, here it mentions both keeping the commandments and having faith in Jesus.

The commandments that Jesus spoke of, and John expounded upon were the Commandments of Love & Unity, were they not? Jesus said "This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you." In context of chapters 14 & 15 of John that is His commandment. How hard it is to keep that one commandment!! The rest will fall in line. "These things I command you, that you love one another." Jn. 15:17. In context there is no reference to keeping the Law of Moses there.
The Law didn't teach the Hebrews (to whom it was given) to love Jehovah. It was given to show the Holiness of God and as types and shadows of He who was to come. It was a shadow of better things. Where as the Law condemned, Christ Justifies. To hold on to the old is to "put new wine into old wineskins, which, of course you don't wan't to do "or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved." Or a new patch onto an old garment.
I would just recommend a further study into the depth of the New Covenant. Its profundity is hard to fathom; even for the most educated men.
And as for:
I understand that you believe we have no rules or laws except to love God and one anotherWith all due respect, I don't think I've revealed enough of my understanding of God's Word for you to make that statement. If you think that by me quoting Jesus' statements above as indictive of my "believe[sic] (that) we have no rules or laws except (?!) to love God and one another", I can see where that may seems overly simplistic. On the other hand: What harder commandment could there be, brother?
The Law cannot Justify; Christ does.

If the change did not take place in the Scriptures or through the influence of the apostles, when and how did it happen?
I stopped reading right there.
The reason is because there actually are several references which explain the "switch".
Here we see the apostles meeting on the first day of the week.
Acts 20:7
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
and here we see Paul giving instruction to recieve the offering on the first day of the week.
1 Corinthians 16:2
Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
In Hebrews 4:1-10, we see that the Sabbath was fulfilled in Christ Jesus.
There is no need for a "ceremonial" Sabbath, since Jesus is our rest. When we were born again, we entered into his rest through baptism.
Not "water baptism", but rather what water baptism represents. We are crucified with Christ, therefore the "old man" is dead. The New Man is not justified by works nor by any amount of cermony, but rather justified by Faith in Jesus Christ.
On top of all this, Jesus himself said, "Man was not made for the sabbath, but the sabbath for man."
The Sabbath was never supposed to be some back breaking yoke like the pharisees made it into. The sabbath was for man's own benefit.
However, Jesus is the sabbath, and in reality, the works were finished from the beginning. The Cross is the historical means through which we enter into his Rest.
-------
Now, we do not worship God one day out of the week. No, we worship God in Spirit and in Truth, and we do this 24/7 all year round.
"This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it."

I'm sorry that you chose not to read the rest of the article as I think it's very insightful. Thank you for the Scriptures you quoted but I don't see how they relate to the Sabbath day.
Acts 20:7
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
This Scripture says they got together on the first day of the week as you pointed out but it says nothing about Sabbath. In fact, anywhere in Scriptures where you see Sabbath mentioned, it always means the 7th day and likewise when you see the first day, it means the first day. There is no Scripture to say the first day of the week is Sabbath. Did not the Scriptures also say that they came together every day? Look at Acts 2:46 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=51&chapter=2&verse=46&version=9&context=verse)
"And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart"
1 Corinthians 16:2
Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
Same thing here, no mention of Sabbath. And in Hebrews 4:1-10 that you mentioned, where does it say the Sabbath day is done away with? If God were going to change one of His 10 commandments, that He wrote Himself on stone, don't you think there would be mention of it?
Let me ask both of you a question..... Do you worship God on Sunday? Maybe you'll say you worship Him every day as well we all should but do you go to church on Sunday? Why do you go to church on Sunday if you don't believe the Sabbath still applies? Is it because the tradition of men says so. Why would we be so willing to go to church on Sunday because everyone says that's what we should do and not be willing to worship God on Saturday which He ordained Himself.... Whether or not you believe Sabbath is done away or not, why would you be willing to keep the tradition of men but so unwilling to keep God's commandments? Because they're done away with? So since God's commandments as you say are done away with, are they then replaced by man's traditions? Please look into what you're saying. Since the 10 commandments you say are done away with, can we then go murder or commit adultery? Why is Sabbath different than the other commandments? I think it's strange that people are willing to keep the other 9 but since the Sabbath is involved, they refuse. Did not Jesus rebuke the people of His day for keeping the traditions of men instead of the commandments of God? I say this in love, we need to look at what we are doing. Jesus is coming back and we must know where we stand. I'm not perfectly right either.... we all need God to work on us but if we're so wrapped up in our own 'beliefs' or how we have been taught then how can He?

By the way, I appologive to you Michael for my wrong assumptions about your beliefs. God bless!

So since God's commandments as you say are done away with, are they then replaced by man's traditions? Please look into what you're saying. Since the 10 commandments you say are done away with, can we then go murder or commit adultery?
"Ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: but I say unto you, that every one who is angry with his brother shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council; and whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of the hell of fire" Mt. 5:21,22
Jesus upped the ante, so to speak on that one.
What about the many hundreds of other Laws of Moses? They can't be separated from the 10 Commandments, can they? To use your argument: Where did God say that the 10 Commandments are separate and apart from the rest of the Law?
And... did Paul speak incorrectly in this passage that I already mentioned: And please remember: "So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths" Col 2:16
Jesus IS the Sabbath. His Word makes that clear. The New Covenant is radically different than the Old. Read the book of Isaiah with all the Apocalyptic imagery of the ending of the Old and beginning of the New; A new Heaven and Earth! My goodness, the Old was merely a shadow of what God had in store! One day of rest vs. eternal rest in the Messiah. Again: "So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths". Please don't be yoked to the Old. The entire New Testament speaks out against such practices.
Please read Galatians chapter 4 before responding to this. I would like to know your interpretation.
In Christian love.

For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
(John 5:46,47)
Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me? (John 7:19)

God bless!
[COLOR=red]"Today I want to answer the question which so many listen...
I am guessing you got this material from a SDA website, a group which is anti-Catholic. You will notice that it doesn't really quote any official Catholic sources (except way out of context), but generally weird and obscure sources, which are impossible to verify and are generally frauds. Their usual tactics are to make the Catholic Church look 'bad' and then convince its readers any differences between the SDAs and Catholics are because the Catholic Church is wrong, the SDAs are being 'biblical', leaving the reader little choice but to be an SDA or go to a protestant Church which does all the terrible things the Catholics do too.
Here's the truth about the Seventh Day Adventists- in the 19th Century, they were a doomsday "church". They constantly set dates for the end of the world, which brought people in, believing the end was near- but those predictions never came true (not forgetting that no one can know the date of the end anyways).
Finally, the group was falling apart- who believes in a church that makes faulty claims about the end of the world? They eventually met with a sailor who was preaching that Christians shouldn't worship on Sunday, because the commandments say to honor the Sabbath. This guy didn't have any understanding of Church history or theology- but he saw a commandment in the Old Testament and didn't understand its relationship to Christianity. Over time the group became fiercely anti-Catholic and rather than doomsday predictions, relied on the belief that all Christians must worship on Saturday.
The truth of the matter is- the apostles moved the gatherings of the faithful to Sunday. Paul's letter to the Corinthians records such a gathering- on the first day of the week. The reason was simple- Christ rose on Sunday. In early Christianity, every Sunday became a 'little Easter'.
Early Christians did two things- read from the scripture and sang hymns, like their jewish ancestors did. With the new covenant, they also gathered to break bread (communion). This was done on Sunday, because that was the day Christ was brought back from the dead. Meanings, Christians had to gather on Sunday for communion- in addition to meeting for the readings of scripture. These were combined into one celebration on Sunday. 2000 years later, you can still find most Christians doing this (Catholics, Orthodox, Coptics, Lutherans, Anglicans and others). For the first half of the gathering, the read scriptures and have hymns, songs, et cetera. For the second, the celebrate the new covenant- through a celebration of communion/Eucharist.

I'm not wanting to go into another debate with people on here. I think the people who usually try to debate me aren't willing to consider what I have to say about Sabbath (or rather what the Bible says) so there's no real point. When we start to think we have it all figured out, we're in real trouble so I would never claim to know it all and I would hope you wouldn't either. You already know what I think about the 10 commandments but it doesn't matter what I think or what you think but what God says. Let's continue to look into God's Word with an open heart and let Him be our teacher. Don't be so bogged down with man's traditions that we can't see when God is correcting us.
I would like to clarify though that I do not think it's sinful to go to church on sunday. I think we should get together every day we can especially in these end days but we should sanctify and set apart God's Sabbath. When I first started going to church this year, I didn't know of a Sabbath church so I went to a Church of God but I still kept Sabbath on my own. Do you know why you go to church on sunday if Sabbath is done away with as I asked before? Did God do away with His laws to make room for man's laws? Maybe that's something to think about.
Also I would like to point out that I am not an SDA and I won't speak for them or what you claim they are all about. God bless you all!

The true Sabbath Day is the Day of the LORD, and it is still to come. It is not a known human named day. It is not known, only the Father knows.
It will be the true Day of Rest we have all been looking forward to. We keep it by not worshipping the Antichrist, but by staying a "virgin" until the true Christ arrives.
All the days man kept up until Christ's death and ressurection were a 'type', not the actual thing. They were there to remind the people of God's promise for salvation and the things to come. We still look forward to Christ's coming, but we no longer need to keep days. We wait patiently for The Day, because the prophecy of Christ has already been fulfilled.
I keep no man-made religion and no day. Christ frees us to come into the inner room, night or day 24-7, 365. Why would anyone go back into a prison cell? Many do sadly.

sabbath vs sunday worship... ahh soo classic.
brings me my youth memories.
Good thing we don't even bring Ellen G. White subject here, that would've been a chaos.
just remember saints:

I too have been looking into sabbath and It goes without questiom that the sabbath is the 7th day. I heard so many reason why there was a switch.
My thing is this, if the jews observed the sabbath under the law and Paul says we are not under the law but saved by grace... then in Hebrews when Paul is speaking of the sabbath rest, what did he mean by this:
Heb 4:11Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
Remeber before he said this he said:
Heb 4:4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
This is what makes me think Paul is speaking of the Sabbath rest on Saturday (the 7th day)
So is paul saying in Hebrews 4:11 to make every effort to enter into that rest period, or make every evert to enter into that rest on the seventh day.
Please note: I'm not arguing or debating, I'm humbly trying to get an understanding.

Hebrew 4:
1. Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.
2. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
3. For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:
“ So I swore in My wrath,
‘ They shall not enter My rest,’”
although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
To enter His rest is heaven.
To rest = to be controlled completely by the Holy Spirit.
His rest:
* The Sure Calling (2 Peter 1:10)
* The peace of God that passes all understanding (Philip. 4:7)
* Righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Ghost (Romans 14:17)
* Standing perfect and complete in all the will of God. (Col. 4:12 Darby)
* Filled with the fruits of righteousness (Phil. 1:11)
* Filled with all the fullness of God (Eph. 3:19)
* Sainthood (Catholic)
* Completed Salvation
* Full assurance (Heb. 10:22)
* Entire sanctification (Wesley)
* The Second Blessing (Wesley )
* The Rest of Faith (old Presbyterian)
* Holiness to the Lord (Exodus 39:30)
* Perfection (Heb. 12:23)
* Blameless (2 Peter 3:14)
* Made white (Daniel 12:10)

But the Sabbath isn't done away with. It is just that Jesus was resurrected on Sunday and so we gather on that day. I thoroughly explained it.
But you quoted an SDA article, no?
Yes you're right, the Bible does show the disciples gathering on Sunday which shows me that it isn't a sin to gather then or anytime but what you're failing to see is that sunday is the first day of the week so therefore when you see 'first day of the week', we know what it's referring to, so likewise when you see Sabbath, you know it means the 7th day of the week. Nowhere in the Bible will you find that the first day of the week means Sabbath or was changed to Sabbath. No matter how you look at it, it's not there. Why would the Bible continue to say 'first day of the week' if it is now Sabbath and why would it continue to call the 7th day of the week Sabbath, if it were no longer so?
Well you're right again, the Sabbath was not done away with but it wasn't changed either. Look at the Scriptures, you won't see any order to change the Sabbath. God sanctified the 7th day from the beginning before the 10 commandments were even given and he spoke about the Sabbath ALOT telling us to REMEMBER the Sabbath to keep it Holy.... If the Sabbath is so important to God and He decided to change the day, don't you think He would have told us plainly and made sure we got the point? If He made such an effort to tell us to remember the Sabbath, he would have at least taken the time to say, "Sabbath will no longer be the 7th day as it's been from the beginning but will now be the 1st day of the week. Keep it Holy!" God isn't cruel, He doesn't make things like this a guessing game.
Yes it was an SDA article but honestly I didn't realize it was until later. I understand people get a little crazy when you mention SDA but let's look at the article and decide for ourselves if it's relevant. You mentioned that the SDA's missquote Catholics and such.... is this the case in this article? I've read and heard similar things from people who were not SDA's. Let's not make this about the SDA church but focus on the Sabbath. You may wish to ignore the article, that's fine.... the article was only posted because I thought other's might find it interesting. People shouldn't push off Sabbath because they don't like the SDA church.... these people are not not the only ones who keep Sabbath. Sabbath is not the Sabbath of the SDA church but the Sabbath of the LORD. Let's keep that in mind.
----------------------
To those who believe Sabbath is done away with, why do you keep Sunday? And to those who believe Sabbath is now sunday, please show the Scriptures that say this.
Thank you cyberlizard for bringing up this point.... can anyone show us Scripture that says the Lord's day means sunday?
I want this to be in love, not to simply argue. It's not a matter of one person being right or wrong.... as the Bible says, Let God be true but every man a liar! If your beliefs come from man's traditions, maybe you should look again at what God says. I have alot to learn and I'm not here to teach, I couldn't teach and I can't claim to know it all (as none of us can). I'm only wanting people to look again at what you are believing and see if there actually is Scriptural proof for it. God bless you all!

Are you wanting to be bound to the Law of Moses?
Just a tad of clarification if I may. God spoke His law and it was agreed to be performed before it was ever written down.
One cannot pick and choose which Laws one wants to keep.
That said, then one would not be able to say that homosexuality is a sin. One would not be able to say that murder is a sin. One would not be able to say that stealing is a sin.
I think Paul was addressing the laws of men here and not the laws of God. See verses 8 and 19-21.
Also see Hebrews chapters 3 and 4.
And the book of Romans, and Galatians, and Hebrews... Gosh, the whole writings of Paul, actually!
None of those books say anything about the Moral law being abolished.
And please remember: "So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths" Col 2:16
"Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us...." Question. Did God speak His Ten Commandments or did He use handwriting in a book?

God tells us that everyone that takes hold of His covenant takes hold of His sabbath.
Isa 56:6 (http://cf.blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Isa&c=56&v=6&t=KJV#6) Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;
The Lord's day is clearly the seventh-day sabbath.
Isa 58:13 (http://cf.blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Isa&c=58&v=13&t=KJV#13) If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, [from] doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking [thine own] words:

Why does it matter what day the Sabbath is on? All I heard was "remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy". I see no "Keep it on such and such day or else".
Sunday or Saturday, any day can become the Sabbath day, maybe. At least any and every day can be a day of worshipping God.
At this point, all I see is useless bickering about an insignificant date, when Jesus' two commandments do not mention a sabbath day at all.
And here's the clincher: They summarize the ten commandments perfectly.

You wrote too much on such a ridiculous subject. I don`t say this to make fun but now what are you going to do. All churches worship on Sunday. Also, as far as I am concerned, Sunday is really the last day of the week. We work Monday through Friday. Saturday and then there is Sunday, the seventh day. I know its not like that on the calender but this really is the way it works out. Monday is the first day of most peoples week. Who cares, there are resons why the churches along time ago changed the day of worship. Do you think it is better not to worship and protest the change? Come on, would Jesus care if He was here? Don`t you think He would worship with us on Sunday?

Perhaps you can show us the evidence! For all big claims, there must be big evidence! And a big penalty if you provide the wrong evidence!
Sure, there's tons of evidence.
Reasons why the Sabbath was not just for Jews.
1) Adam and Eve were not Jewish. "God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it" (Genesis 2:3) before sin entered. "Sanctified" means "to be set apart for holy use." The only ones in the Garden of Eden for whom the Sabbath was “set apart” were Adam and Eve, who weren’t Jewish.
2) "The Sabbath was made for man." Mark 2:27. Jesus said this. It was "made" in the Garden of Eden before it was "written" down on Mount Sinai. The Sabbath was "made" for "man," not just Jews.
3) The other nine commandments are not "just for Jews." God wrote "Ten Commandments" on stone, not just nine (See Deut. 4:12, 13; Ex. 20). Does “Do not commit adultery,”“Do not murder,”“Do not steal,” and “Do not bear false witness” apply "only to Jews"?
4) "The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God." Exodus 20:10. God calls the Sabbath, "my holy day." Isaiah 58:13. The Bible never calls it "the Sabbath of the Jews." It isn’t their Sabbath, but God's.
5) The Sabbath commandment is for the "stranger" too. The fourth commandment itself says the "stranger" is to rest on the Sabbath. Exodus 20:10.“Strangers” are non-Jews, or Gentiles. Thus the Sabbath applies to them too. Read also Isaiah 56:6.
6) Isaiah said Gentiles should keep the Sabbath. "Also the sons of the stranger ... every one that keeps the Sabbath ... for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people." Isaiah 56:6, 7. Thus the Sabbath is for Gentiles and “all people,” not just for Jews.
7) "All" mankind will keep the Sabbath in the New Earth. In "the new earth ... from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, says the Lord." Isaiah 66:22, 23. Here God says that “all flesh” will be keeping the Sabbath in “the new earth.” If this is the case – and it is – shouldn’t we start now?
8) Gentiles kept the Sabbath in the Book of Acts. "The Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath ... Paul and Barnabas ... persuaded them to continue in the grace of God."' Acts 13:42, 43. Here saved-by-grace Gentiles kept the Sabbath (see also verse 44).
9) "The law" [of Ten Commandments] is for "all the world," not just for Jews. Paul wrote these words. Read Romans 2:17-23; 3:19, 23.
10) Luke was a Gentile who kept the Sabbath. Luke was the only Gentile who wrote any New Testament books (he wrote The Gospel According to St. Luke and The Acts of the Apostles). Luke traveled with Paul and wrote, "On the Sabbath we went out of the city by a river side." Acts 16:13. It was the seventh-day Sabbath, the memorial of the creation (see Ex. 20:11). Both Luke and Paul knew it....excerpts from article by Steve Wohlberg

FACT NUMBER ONE—The Sabbath was given to all mankind at the Creation of this world.
The seventh-day Sabbath was given to mankind on the seventh day of Creation Week.
"Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.
"And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made."—Genesis 2:1-3.
God dedicated and set aside the Sabbath as a rest day—2,000 years before the first Jew. Abraham is considered by all to have been the first Jew. He lived about 2000 B.C. Biblical records indicate that the Creation of this world took place about 4000 B.C. So the Bible Sabbath is not Jewish! It is for mankind; it is for all the world.
"The Sabbath was made for man."—Mark 2:27.
FACT NUMBER TWO—The Sabbath is a memorial of Creation and our salvation.
First, it is a memorial of Creation.
"It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day He rested, and was refreshed."—Exodus 31:17.
As a memorial of the Creation of this world, the Sabbath cannot pass away without first having this world pass away—and creating a new one! Our planet could not have a new or different Sabbath day, without having it first hurled into oblivion—and then a new planet created from nothing. But no such event has occurred.
Second, the Sabbath is a symbol of our salvation. When we keep it, we tell all the world that we belong to God and that we serve and obey Him. The seventh-day Sabbath is a sign of our conversion, sanctification, and salvation:
"Verily My Sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you."—Exodus 31:13.
"Moreover also I gave them My Sabbaths to be a sign between Me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them."—Ezekiel 20:12.
"And hallow My Sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between Me and you, that ye may know that I am the Lord your God."—Ezekiel 20:20.
But what about Christ’s resurrection? Nowhere in Scripture were we told to keep any day in honor of Christ’s resurrection. To do so is unscriptural. On the contrary, to set aside the Creation and sanctification Sabbath of the Bible—for another day of the week—and excuse it by saying that we do so "in honor of Christ’s resurrection,"—is indeed to do a very daring thing. Who dare presume to set aside the Memorial of Creation and salvation for any reason! To knowingly do so, flies in the face of repeated, direct, Biblical commands by the God of heaven. To do so denies that He is our Creator and Redeemer.
If we abandon the Bible Sabbath and keep another day holy, in the Judgment what excuse can we offer? There is no Bible reason for keeping the first day of the week holy instead of the seventh day.
FACT NUMBER THREE—The people of God kept the Bible Sabbath before the Ten Commandments were given at Mount Sinai.
The Sabbath Truth was first given to our race in Eden before the fall of man. It was given before sin existed, and apart from it. It was given to every man to link him to his God. And if Adam needed the Sabbath, we need it all the more today.
God’s people had it before Mount Sinai. Four chapters before the Ten Commandments were given on Mount Sinai. the God of heaven spoke in such a way that it is obvious that the seventh-day Sabbath was already well-known by the people of God—but not always well-kept: Read Exodus 16.
There are those who say that the seventh-day Sabbath was not commanded by God, nor kept by man before it was spoken from Mount Sinai in Exodus 20. But Genesis 2:1-3 and Exodus 16 prove otherwise.
FACT NUMBER FOUR—The seventh-day Sabbath Commandment lies in the very heart of the Moral Law of Ten Commandments.
"Remember The Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
"Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work. But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.
"For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it."—Exodus 20:8-11.
The Sabbath Commandment is part of the Moral Law of Ten Commandments. The Apostle James tells us that if we break any part of this law, we have broken it all (James 2:10-12). We cannot tear out the Fourth Commandment without setting aside all the others as well. They all stand together, because the God of Heaven put them all together.
We do not decide which day of the week is to be kept holy unto God; He alone is to do this. It is for Him to command; it is for us to obey.
Some say that Genesis 2:1-3 is not a command for man to keep the Sabbath, and therefore we do not obey it. But Exodus 16 and 20 clearly show that man is commanded to keep it holy. And who dare say that the Ten Commandments were only for the Jewish race? Are the rest of us permitted to lie, steal, cheat, and commit adultery? Are only the Hebrews to observe these ten moral principles?
The reason for the commandment is the Creation of this world: "For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth." This is not something local, merely for a Semitic race;—it is a commandment for all in the entire world who shall bow down and worship their Creator in humble thankfulness for His plan to save them through the life and death of Jesus Christ. It was given at the Creation of this world, and was given to every man, woman, and child who shall live on this planet.
God wrote these Ten Commandments with His own finger (Ex 31:18; Deut 9:10). He wrote them on the most enduring thing in the world, and that is rock (Ex 31:18). And He wishes to write them also on our hearts.
"This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them."—Hebrews 10:16 (Heb 8:10; Jer 31:33).
And, if we will let Him, through the New Covenant He will write His holy law upon our hearts. To have the Ten Commandments written on our hearts means two things: First, a willingness to obey them and, second, letting God enable us to do so by the grace of Jesus, His Son. Obedience to God’s law is to become an integral part of our lives.
FACT NUMBER FIVE—The weekly seventh-day Sabbath is part of the Moral Law contained in the Ten Commandments. It will stand forever. The yearly sabbaths were part of the ceremonial laws that prefigured, or foreshadowed, the death and ministry of Christ.
These "shadow laws," such as Passover and the Wave Sheaf, which were a part of the ceremonial or sacrificial law, would not endure past the death of Christ.
"For the [ceremonial] law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered?. . But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins."—Hebrews 10:1-4.
These ceremonial laws were not written on rock, but were contained in ordinances, written on parchment. The rock was to endure, but the ordinances that foreshadowed the death of Christ were to pass away at His death. It is for this reason that we do not today observe the yearly sabbaths of the Passover and the Wave Sheaf.
"Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross . . Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days. Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ."—Colossians 2:14,16-17.
In the Greek it says, "or of the sabbaths." There is one weekly Sabbath; it comes down to us from the Creation of this world and will be kept in the New Earth (Isa 66:22-23). But the yearly sabbaths did not begin until Moses. They foreshadowed and explained the coming death of Christ till it happened; and, at His death, were nailed to His cross.
If the ordinances containing the yearly sabbaths had not been set aside at Calvary, we would need now to sacrifice animals on various occasions throughout the year. But we are not now to slay lambs; for Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.
"Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."—John 1:29.
"For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us."—1 Corinthians 5:7.
FACT NUMBER SIX—Christ’s disciples faithfully kept the Bible Sabbath, not Sunday.
The disciples had been with Jesus for three and a half years, and had listened closely to His teachings. What they did at the time of His death on Calvary shows what He taught them. The sacred importance of the seventh-day Sabbath was of such concern to them that they would not even prepare the body of Jesus properly for burial on Friday, lest they transgress the Fourth Commandment.
"And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath . . Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where He was laid.
"And when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint Him. And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?"—Mark 15:42, 47-16:3.
For more on this, read Luke 23:53-24:2.
FACT NUMBER SEVEN—According to the New Testament, the Apostles of Jesus always kept the Bible Sabbath.
The Apostles kept the Bible Sabbath. Read Acts 13:14; Acts 13:42; Acts 16:13; Acts 17:1-2.
Paul supported himself by tentmaking; and then on the Sabbath, he would preach the gospel.
"Because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation, they were tentmakers . . And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks . . He continued there a year and six months, teaching the Word of God among them."—Acts 18:3, 4, 11.
Paul’s manner was the same as Christ’s custom: to keep the Bible Sabbath (Acts 17:1-2; Luke 4:16).
Paul never taught that the Moral Law was, or could be, set aside. It will ever govern the conduct of mankind:
"Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law."—Romans 3:31.
"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?"—Romans 6:1-2.
"What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet."—Romans 7:7.
Paul clearly saw that the problem was that we needed to obey the law; there was nothing wrong with the requirements of the law itself.
"Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good."—Romans 7:12.
"Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but [that which is important is] the keeping of the commandments of God."—1 Corinthians 7:19.
The moral standard that governs mankind was not relaxed or destroyed by the death of Christ; for, indeed, it is through the merits of Christ’s sacrifice that we can be empowered to keep that law.
"Thou shalt call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins."—Matthew 1:21.
Jesus saves us from our sins, not in our sins. And since sin is the breaking of the Ten Commandments, it is obvious that He saves us by enabling us, strengthening us, to keep that law.
"Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law."—1 John 3:4.
The other Apostles saw this same great truth, that the moral standard that governs mankind was not relaxed or destroyed by the death of Christ:
"But be ye doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the Word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face In a glass. For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
"But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed . . For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. For He that saith, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty . . Faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works; shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works."—James 1:22-25; 2:10-12, 17-18.
"By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous."—1 John 5:2-3.

FACT NUMBER EIGHT—God predicted in Scripture that men would later try to change the Law of God—and especially the "time law."
The Bible Sabbath is very important—for it is the very center of our worship of God! If men were later to try to change it to another day, we should surely expect a Bible prophecy saying that it would happen.
"And he [the little horn power] shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into His hand until a time and times and the dividing of time."—Daniel 7:25.
The church of the Dark Ages was to rule the world for 1260 years, and during this time would try to tear out God’s holy Time Law, and put a counterfeit in its place. Oh, what blasphemy men can dream up, when they are tempted by Satan to gain religious control of their fellow men!
"For that day [the Second Coming of Christ] shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped."—2 Thessalonians 2:3-4.
God said:
"And hallow My Sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between Me and you, that ye may know that I am the Lord your God." —Ezekiel 20:20.
After the New Testament was finished and the Apostles had died, men tried transfer the sacredness from the seventh to the first day of the week. They tried to change the "time law."
Roman Catholic: "It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church."—Priest Brady, in an address at Elizabeth, N.J., March 17, 1903, reported in the Elizabeth, N.J. News of March 18, 1903.
"You may search the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saterday, a day which we never sanctify."—James Cardinal Gibbon, The Faith of Our Fathers, chapter 8.
"If Protestants would follow the Bible, they should worship God on the Sabbath day. In keeping the Sunday they are following a law of the Catholic Church."—Albert Smith, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, replying for the Cardinal, in a letter of February 10, 1920.
"We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty."—Pope Leo XIII, Encyclical Letter, June 20, 1894; The Great Encyclical Letters of Leo XIII, p. 304.
"Prove to me from the Bible alone that I am bound to keep Sunday holy. There is no such law in the Bible. It is a law of the holy Catholic Church alone. The Bible says ‘Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.’ The Catholic Church says, No. By my divine power I abolish the Sabbath day and command you to keep holy the first day of the week. And lo! The entire civilized world bows down in reverent obedience to the command of the Holy Catholic Church."—Priest Thomas Enright, CSSR, President of Redemptorist College, Kansas City, MO, in a lecture at Hartford, Kansas Weekly Call, February 22, 1884, and the American Sentinel, a New York Roman Catholic journal, in June 1893, p. 173.
"Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change was her act . . AND THE ACT IS A MARK of her ecclesiastical power."—From the office of cardinal Gibbons, through Chancellor H. F. Thomas, November 11, 1895.
How important it is that we obey the commandments of God rather than the commandments of men.
"Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey?"—Romans 6:16.
"It is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve."—Matthew 4:10.
"But in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."—Matthew 15:9.
"How long halt ye between two opinions? If the Lord be God, follow Him; but if Baal, then follow him."—1 Kings 18:21.
FACT NUMBER NINE—The seventh-day Sabbath, instituted by God at the Creation of this world, is the seal of His governmental authority.
God’s basic governmental code for mankind is the Ten Commandments. Of those ten, only the Sabbath commandment reveals the name of our Creator and Lawgiver.
Of all the commandments in the Decalogue, only the Fourth Commandment reveals the (1) name, (2) authority, and (3) dominion of the Author of this Law:
In six days, (1) the Lord (name) (2) made (office—the Creator) (3) heaven and earth (dominion or territory over which He rules). This commandment alone contains the seal of God.
Examine the notary seal of a notary public or any other legal seal. Each seal will always contain the above three identifying marks.
"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy . . for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it."—Exodus 20:8, 11.
The Sabbath commandment contains the seal of God, and the Sabbath itself—given in this commandment—is inseparably connected with this seal. For the Sabbath is the basis of all true worship of our Creator. And this worship lies at the heart of all our acknowledgment of His authority as our Creator and our God. The Sabbath is ever to be kept as a sign that we belong to Him. And the keeping of it brings us within the circle of this seal.
The seal is impressed in order that all may know the authority from whence it comes—and that all may know that it is not to be changed. The seventh-day Sabbath comes from God. Let no man dare to tamper with it—for the seal of God is upon it.
"Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed."—Daniel 6:8.
"Bind up the testimony, seal the law among My disciples."—Isaiah 8:16.
"It [the Sabbath] is a sign between Me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day He rested, and was refreshed."—Exodus 31:17.
"And hallow My Sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between Me and you, that ye may know that I am the Lord your God."—Ezekiel 20:20.
The Sabbath is a powerful sign of God’s creative power—not only of this earth, but within our lives as well. It requires the same power to clean our lives and redeem us as it did to create us in the first place.
"Create in me a clean heart, O God."—Psalm 51:10.
"We are . . created in Christ Jesus unto good works."— Ephesians 2:10.
The Bible tells us there is to be a special sealing work in these last days, just before the return of Jesus in the clouds of heaven.
"And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels . . saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, or the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads."—Revelation 7:2-3 (Ezekiel 9:1-6).
"And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with Him an hundred forty and four thousand, having His Father’s name written in their foreheads."—Revelation 14:1.
The name of the Father is expressive of His character. When Moses asked to see the glory of God, the Lord passed by and told His name—that which He was like:
"The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth."—Exodus 34:6.
And as we look at God’s holy law, we see another view of His character. It is a transcript of that character. It is God’s characteristics written on everlasting stone. He wants us to live it out in our lives.
When God writes His name on your forehead and right hand, this means He writes His law on your heart. This is the work of the new covenant (Heb 8:10; 10:16; Jer 31:33); and that work reaches its climax when God "seals in" His own people, just before He returns the second time in the clouds of heaven. What are those sealed ones like? They are fully obedient to the Law of God:
"And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God."—Revelation 14:5.
But in the final crisis before His return, there will be a people who will yield obedience to the beast instead of to God.
"And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God."—Revelation 14:9-10, 12.
"And he [the beast] causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads."—Revelation 13:16.
In contrast with those who serve the beast and receive his mark, are those who in the last days will serve God and receive His seal. How can they be identified? God has told us in His Word. Here is a description of God’s remnant people at the end of time:
"And the dragon [Satan, working through his agents] was wroth with the woman [the true church], and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ."—Revelation 12:17.
And the third angel of Revelation 14, which warns men to not receive the mark of the beast, also tells them how to avoid receiving it—by keeping the commandments of God through the faith of Jesus Christ:
"And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture . . Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."—Revelation 14:9-10, 12.
The final crisis will be caused by a decree by the beast that all men must disobey a commandment of the law of God. The nations and churches of the world will not require men to steal or lie or commit adultery. The growing movement toward national Sunday laws is growing stronger every passing year. It is seen that in this point, and in this alone, will be found the heart of the crisis of Revelation 13 and 14.
The first angel of Revelation 14 calls on all men everywhere, today, to reverence God—by returning to the worship of the Creator of all things.
"And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people:
"Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to Him; for the hour of His judgment is come: and worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters."—Revelation 14:7.
As the crisis nears, we must prepare for it.
"The observance of Sunday by the Protestants is an homage they pay, in spite of themselves, to the authority of the [Catholic] Church."—Monsignor Louis Segur, Plain Talk About the Protestantism of Today, p. 213.
Already we are facing Sunday closing laws on local levels. Men are prohibited from doing business on the first working day of the week, lest they be fined or imprisoned. And the situation will grow worse in the days just ahead.
"That the image of the beast should both speak, and cause [decree] that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark."—Revelation 13:15-17.
But there is victory for those who will stand true to the God of heaven. There is overcoming power for those who will "keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus" (Rev 14:12).
"And I saw . . them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God."—Revelation 15:2.

FACT NUMBER TEN—God’s remnant people will keep the Bible Sabbath, and that holy day will be kept throughout eternity.
(1) Even though there are over two thousand denominations today, the remnant people of God, living at the end of time, can be identified. God has identified them for us. After speaking about how the antichrist power in the Dark Ages tried for centuries to destroy the people of God, we are told how to identify them in these last days, just before Christ returns in the clouds for His own:
"And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ."—Revelation 12:17.
And the third angel, after warning all men against receiving the mark of the beast, tells us clearly who will be the little group that will stand apart from this almost universal apostasy:
"Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."—Revelation 14:12.
It will be an almost universal apostasy. All around us can be seen a rising tide of rebellion against the Ten Commandments. The colleges and universities teach that man is but an animal descended from worms and amoeba. The churches teach that God destroyed the Ten Commandments at Calvary, and that Jesus died to take sinners to heaven just as they are. Governmental agencies are relaxing moral restrictions and permitting gambling, abortion, homosexuality, and other vices.
This world is becoming a curse, but soon God will intervene. Prophecy tells us that before the end there will be a small company who will stand true to the commandments of God, by faith in Jesus Christ.
(2) And soon this present evil world will be ended suddenly by the return of Jesus Christ—and heaven will begin for the faithful.
And in that heaven the seventh-day Sabbath will be kept forever. God’s people suffered and died for it down here, and they will worship God on that holy day through all ages to come.
Revelation 21 and 22 tells us about this new life with Jesus, when sin has come to an end and the wicked are no longer alive.
"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea . . And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb."—Revelation 21:1; 22:1.
And then we are told who will enter that beautiful new world:
"Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."—Revelation 22:14.
But more: There is the promise that they will keep the holy Sabbath through all eternity:
"For, behold, I create a new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind . . And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of My people, and Mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands . . The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock; and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, saith the Lord . .
"For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before Me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before Me, saith the Lord."—Isaiah 65:17, 21-22, 25; 66:22-23.
Now you have seen God’s plan for His people. And it is a wonderful one. It can begin for you right now. And it will continue on throughout eternity. Why not begin today—this very week? Ask God to forgive you for the past, and tell Him that, by His grace, you will worship your Creator on His day! This is the best decision you can make. Go to Him just now. He will help you make it.
And next Sabbath—begin that holy walk with God on His day, the holy day of Isaiah 58. Read that chapter and see the blessings He will add, if you will but let Him take over your life.
But think not that there will be no problems or trials. Satan will bring many upon you. He hates the Sabbath and all who will stand loyal to it. Yet if you will determine to be true to God and His Word, you will have strength from above to go through all that lies ahead.
And one day soon, if faithful to the end, you with the redeemed of all ages will rejoice on the sea of glass and will receive from the hand of Jesus the overcomer’s crown. And you will be given that new name, expressive of a new character. And you will begin a walk with Jesus that will last through all eternity to come.
"And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence come they?
"And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said unto me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
"Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple: and He that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.
"They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.
"For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes."—Revelation 7:13-17.
Here is an interesting story:
One of the czars of Russia while walking in his park came upon a sentry standing guard over a little patch of weeds. "What are you doing here?" he asked.
The sentry replied, "I don’t know. All I know is that the captain of the guard ordered me to stand over this spot."
The czar sent for the captain. "Captain
—what is this man guarding?"
The captain answered, "All I know is that the regulations call for a sentry to be posted here."
The czar then ordered an investigation, but no one in the government of Russia could discover why that spot needed guarding. Then they opened the royal archives, and the mystery was solved.
The records showed that a hundred years before, in the late eighteenth century, Catherine the Great had planted a rosebush on that plot of ground and ordered a sentry posted there to keep people from trampling on it. Eventually the rosebush died, but nobody thought to cancel the order. And for a hundred years men stood guard over a spot where a rosebush once had grown and didn’t know what they were guarding.
Year after year. Guarding something that wasn’t there.
It is when we open the archives of the Bible and the history of the first several centuries after the time of Christ that our mystery is solved.
The seventh-day Bible Sabbath is the only weekly Sabbath ever given by God to mankind. But three centuries after the Bible ended, church and government leaders in Rome tried to stamp out true Sabbathkeeping, and transfer its sacredness to a common working day, the first day of the week.
But only God can make a day sacred, and nowhere in the Bible did he do it to Sunday.
Do you want to please God? Then obey the Bible, not what men have done or what men tell you to do today.

It doesn't matter on which day we worship God. Or what the Sabbath is on, anyway.
I still see no proof Saturday is teh seventh day. It could very well be Wednesday for all we know.
Does it matter? Do you worship God more extravagantly/reverently on Saturday than on say, Tuesday?

My point is God doesn't care which day we set apart for Him.
Really? That's quite a claim. Do you have any verses you'd care to reference to prove that point? And remember your advice: For all big claims, there must be big evidence! And a big penalty if you provide the wrong evidence!
Any day can be the Sabbath day.

When does the Bile say that the sabbath was created?
"Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.
"And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made."—Genesis 2:1-3.

And I only see it says "keep the sabbath day" (exact verse phrasing?) for that one commandment. Where does it say "worship only on Saturday"?
It doesn't, does it?
Those are commandments from the Old Testament that confirm the law in the New. Read Exodus 20:8-11.
I see no reason to be bitter. Keep a civil tongue in your head. I have said nothing out of arrogance or spite or hatred here. Only a smile.
And my evidence is your lack of evidence of it being specifically Saturday. All I see is baseless conjecture so far.
Unless there's a verse that says, specifically, "worship on Saturday" or close to it.
No bitterness, just following your lead. When do Jews and Messianic's go to synagogue and church? Think maybe they might still be right?
Yet you're doing it right now, aren't you? You're arguing with much venom, in fact.
You've just contradicted yourself, you see. Get your testimony straight, please.

Of the facts listed which seemed incorrect?
You're forgetting the assumption that the seventh day is Saturday. That is what I refer to. See, Fact One doesn't really seem to provide any evidence for it being on Saturday at all.
Also I don't care much for LONG LONG LONG ARTICLES when the same things could be said in summary.
Really? That's quite a claim. Do you have any verses you'd care to reference to prove that point? And remember your advice: For all big claims, there must be big evidence! And a big penalty if you provide the wrong evidence!
You obviously do not play video games. And you are quite bitter towards someone who's been quite polite to you.
Is this how you treat all people who challenge you to think for yourself?

Honestly. Don't be so bitter.
If you knew me, you'd know that's just me being me, not me being rude. You'd know that in a debate, I like to enjoy myself.
But you don't seem to know me.
So I'm going to refuse to answer any more questions until you can be civil once more.
I don't know, what does God's word say?
Depends.. Are you being civil once more?
Or am I going to see more bitter flaming?
"Run, run, run, run a run-a-way!"
Yep, you've never played the Phoenix Wright series for the DS. Doesn't matter.

No bitterness, just following your lead.
You do not understand me, then. You insult me, actually, in assuming that's what I always say.
You also need to play a Phoenix Wright game to understand why I would say something totally random like that. But you don't care about anyone else so why does it matter to you?
[/impression i got]
When do Jews and Messianic's go to synagogue and church? Think maybe they might still be right?
Seeing as how it's been nearly 2000 years and the Jews only got their country back yesterday... and the fact they fail to see Jesus as Messiah when He clearly fulfilled prophecy...
Yah. I don't see how that's a relevant point, actually.

You obviously don't know who you're arguing with if you think I'm offended to the point of tears so easily.
I am in fact regarding this whole sad attempt at an argument as quite amusing.
But I digress. It is WAY past the time I should be sleeping, so I bid you adieu. And work on that bitterness. It'll eat you alive if you hold it in for too long.

No assumption. What day to people mark Jesus' resurrection? Sunday? Easter (Ishtar) Sunday. What day does the Bible call that day? The first day of the week. Add 6 days.
You obviously do not play video games. And you are quite bitter towards someone who's been quite polite to you.

Actually, I find that you've been quite rude to me. But no matter. Besides, I always know when I got you because you can't answer a simple question and you have to resort to deflection.

Look, don't worry about trying to answer any of the questions I ask. I already know you don't have any thoughtful answers to them. When in doubt, obfuscate!
Oh, and by the way, no flamming on my part. Just giving you the same advice you gave me.

Sure they do. The seventh-day is the sabbath. When did Jesus rise from the tomb? First day of the week. When is Jesus' resurrection observed? Sunday. Easy stuff.
You do not understand me, then. You insult me, actually, in assuming that's what I always say.

Instead of using the excuse that I don't understand you because I don't play a Phoenix Wright game why not try to converse like an adult and cut out all the unnecessary gibberish?

The keeping of Sunday as the Christian sabbath is not of God but of Man.
ORIGIN OF SUNDAY WORSHIP
Ample evidence from history shows that the celebration of Sunday originated from pagan practices of SUN WORSHIP. In March of 321 A.D., the Roman Emperor Constantine, who was at first a sun-worshiper and later a Christian convert, issued the first decree declaring Sunday to be a legal day of rest. In 336 A.D., the Roman Catholic Church officially changed the observance of Sabbath to Sunday for political and economic expediency. Since then, the original Sabbath gradually gave way to Sunday observance and the practice remains to this day.

That's simply not true. What was the decree by which the Church changed the observe? There isn't one. It was practiced on Sunday long before that. Justin Martyr in 150 AD wrote:
"On the day called Sunday, all who live in cities or in the country gather together in one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read.... Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Saviour on the same day rose from the dead."

Well, Jesus died about 30 A.D. so from jesus death to today, we no the
sabbath day was change, if you disagree with the history, then you disagree, Lets take a look at the Bible and see when jesus raise...
Jesus makes it clear the time between His death and resurrection would be 3 days and 3 nights.
(Matthew 12:38) Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. 39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign;
and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Cannot Get 3 Days And 3 Nights
Now despite the fact that Jesus Himself said that He would be in the grave 3 days and 3 nights, man has come up with the tradition of Jesus dying on Good Friday and rising early Sunday morning. In following this tradition, not only does one not observe one of God's Holy Days, which is the Passover, they directly deny the words of Jesus. It was Jesus who gave the sign of being in the grave 3 days and 3 nights. The tradition of Good Friday and Easter clearly does not line up with scripture. Because following this tradition the maximum one has Jesus in the grave is 1 day and 2 nights.
According to tradition, if Jesus had died on Friday, He would have been in the grave Friday night, Saturday day and Saturday night. One would not count Sunday because in John (20:1) it states that the 1st day of the week which is Sunday, Mary came to the grave site when it was still dark. In Luke (24:1-6) They find that the stone which was placed in front of the sepulcher had been removed and an angel tells them that Jesus had already risen.
How They Say It Happened
Tradition of Man - Good Friday & Easter SU M T W TH F S
Days 1 1
Nights 1 1
(John 20:1) The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. (2) Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
3 Days And 3 Nights
The scriptures explain how Jesus was in the earth 3 days and 3 nights just as He had foretold.
How It Really Happened
3 Days And 3 Nights SU M T W TH F S
Days 1 1 1
Nights 1 1 1
In looking at the previous scriptures one should now have a better understanding, as to what took place. Remember Mary did not come to the Grave site until the first day of the week which is Sunday. (John 20:1) "The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulcher", And it was early in the morning and it was still dark. But Jesus had already risen.
That's because Jesus went into His grave right before the end of the Passover or Wed. evening. The passing of the Passover brought in the Feast of the Unleavened Bread. So Jesus would Have been in the Grave Wednesday night, Thursday daytime and Thursday night, Friday daytime, Friday night, Saturday daytime and Jesus rose right before the sun went down on Saturday. Hence one has the 3 days and 3 nights which Jesus prophesied.
His death Wednesday night is consistent with the comment of the prophet Daniel, stating the Messiah would be cut off (killed) in the midst of the week. Daniel 9:26-27 26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week (Wednesday is the middle of the week) he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, (Remember, Jesus is the sacrificial Passover Lamb).

So you totally ignored my post, which disproved your claims- and now you want to argue what day Jesus was risen? And you do it by cut and pasting other peoples arguments?
http://israelteach.com/sign_of_jonas_3_days.htm
You are presenting someone else's content as if it were your own, which is plagiarism and is stealing. If you want to discuss the topic at hand, fine- but please don't post other people's arguments on completely different issues in response to other cut and paste arguments.

What you posted was word for word what was on that website. So you cut and pasted the material you plagiarized in your post. Whether or not you got it from that site or from a site with the exact same content (such as: http://www.thykingdomcome7.com/the%20gospel/sign_of_jonas_3_days.htm) is really of no consequence. To me, everyday is the Sabbath. Through Christ I remember the sabbath every day of my life and I keep it Holy. And through Christ's perfect fulfillment of the law I don't have to worry about whether I was doing it properly or on the right day...because Christ already has! Thing is the Lord said thou shall not work on the seventh day, so if everyday was the sabbath, then you'll be breaking the sabbath, cause you have work to make a living everyday and the lord sanctified the seventh day not everyday.
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 20:9 Six days shalt thou labou
