Hi guys

I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction here. Im trying to find certain words in the bible but in the right context, like I want to take the word and find say what the hebrew version of the word or the greek meaning of the word. What type of tools or websites would I use to do that?

There are many words that we use today but mean something different back when it was written.

I see quite a bit of people on these forums have a way of figuring it out. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Thanks in advance :):)

If you go to http://www.e-sword.net/ you can download a electronic bible, and that got the king james version as default, with notes for all the words about what they mean in hebrew/greek.

Sure. http://blueletterbible.org/ has some good public domain study tools.

There are better resources available that are still copyrighted. Bauer/Arndt/Gingrich's "Greek/English Lexicon" is still the standard of scholastic results of individual words. But you may need to learn some Greek to recognize what some of it's saying.

Nicolle's "Expositors New Testament" is still very good, though some recent work has made some new insights. Again -- Greek.

The most commonly used tool would be Strong's Concordance, which gives each Greek & Hebrew word a number. You can find a hyperlinked version at http://www.htmlbible.com/sacrednamebiblecom/kjvstrongs/index.htm or http://www.htmlbible.com/sacrednamebiblecom/kjvstrongs/index2.htm

HOWEVER, these tools tell you just enough to be dangerous...

They are no substitute for knowing the languages, although used with a sense of humility, they can be helpful.
