im not exactly new to the christian faith...but i think this post would go best in this category. i am amazed and confused by how people (including ministers, brothers of the faith, etc) don't exactly follow what the bible says as it pertains to clothing, behavior, and etc. the closest people i have found that live according to the bible would be the amish, however, i am still uncertain about some of them. ive seen MANY people who call themselves christians yer do not follow the law as it is outlined throughout the bible. how does this work? why is it allowed?

Hi, I hear what your saying and in my opinion it is best to be concerned with our own walk with God and you'll find great growth in doing that instead of being troubled over others.

On this forum there is an anabaptist congregation area which if your interested in, you could read in there, but as to how people dress, etc and whether people follow law or not is individual understandings and just as you have what you feel is what you should do others may have different understandings.

The thing is to focus on Jesus and teachings in the bible and walk as you see is truth from what you learn as is such a blessing.

It may be that what you are seeing is troubling you for whatever reasons and understandable and is just where you are thinking about at this time, but we, in my opinion are better off to be concerned with our own walk and leave others walks to them.

We can't change others, only ourselves.

A good pastor of a flock recognizes that each person grows at their own pace, and many people have varied understandings and beliefs even on the same passages or topics and is the Holy Spirit who works in each of us of course.

One who is working to change a person on the outside (externals) is the furthest thing from Jesus' teachings as He focused on the heart, as the changes occur inside us and then the outside changes all depending on the individual and wherever they are at.

Brings to mind where He says; First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.

Take care,
blessings,
tapero

Are you referring to the clothing law specifically given to the Israelites?

I'm not a Jew so it doesn't apply to me.

I am a Christian who lives by grace through faith in Christ Jesus for salvation.

Behavior is a life-long project.

What do you mean by clothing?

Hm. Maybe I can say how this works.

I would actually say that not only are they following the Law, they're following exactly what the Law says about them: "None is righteous, no, not one;
no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
no one does good,
not even one."
"Their throat is an open grave;
they use their tongues to deceive."
"The venom of asps is under their lips."
"Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness."
"Their feet are swift to shed blood;
in their paths are ruin and misery,
and the way of peace they have not known."
"There is no fear of God before their eyes."Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. Rom 3:10-20

So the Law says what's right, sure. It also says we should be doing what's right.

The Law also says we don't do what's right.

Christ doesn't instantly fix the Law's statement about humanity. It starts the change in us -- first by removing God's offense, and then beginning His power in us to change.

Most people, Christians or otherwise don't take the Bible literally and therefore don't follow all of its written laws to the letter either. For example, Christ said if your right hand causes you to sin that you should cut it off. Did you type your post with your right hand, or have you simply never sinned with it?

His laws were meant to be followed.. If God says do not lie, do not commit adultry and so forth, He means it. There is nothing to be taken as an "expression" or metaphorically about following Gods written Law. People like to sweep the law under the rug because they like the World too much :( (I know that was me heh..)I have endlessly heard the words "The Law was for back than" Heresy...nothing but false teaching.

There are times when He spoke in parables or hyperbole (sp?)

When He said to cut off your right hand, He was giving emphasis. Also In our lives if there is anything that causes us to Sin we are to simply take it out of the equation.

OP - Believers should have a t-shirt that says "Not Perfect BUT Saved!" We have no way of knowing how far a person has come nor do they know how far we've come.

Yahweh sees all our stuff and loves us anyway. You probably know parents that love their kids unconditionally while others love their kids conditionally. Those commandments - loving Him and others - it's no easy task. We do things that offend others and others offend us.

Recently a young lady came to church with an extremely tight pair of jeans on. I was thinking about that when Yahweh said -" If that was your child, you would be so happy that they were in church, you wouldn't care how they were dressed." I repented. The spiritual aspects of them in church would far outweigh the natural.

It's the Holy Spirit's job to prompt change, He can handle it.

We want His love in us to shine though.
