View Full Version : The Immaculate conceptiom of Mary!

I am interested in a formal debate on the dogma of the Immaculate conception of the blessed Virgin Mary.
The debate can be short like 3-4 rounds
At least allowing 5000 words maximun per round per person per post.
Length up to one week(7 days) to respond.
This is a must. The person whom I will debate with must not be anti-Catholic. In other words I am only looking for a real (biblical/logical/historical) dialog with a good hearted Christian protestant evangelical who is open to friendly debate and who does not think Catholics are going to hell or Catholic worship Mary(We don't). I am looking for someone who may be protestant but also sees the Catholic church as a good Christian church but may dissagree with them over this issue.
Debating anti-Catholics do no good because they never listen and it makes me not want to listen to their side hence the Holy Spirit can not work in both of our hearts to hear each other prayerfully and proclaim Christ truth. I want this discussion to bring light and not heat to the understanding theologically and biblically why Catholic believe Mary's Sinlessness.
I hope that is clear.
God bless!:liturgy:

Why debate an easily resolvable argument if you are only going to listen to your side of the argument? LOL, wow, what a debate. :forgetsaboutthisthread:
All in all, Mary was a woman. Just a woman, but God's plan for that woman was to bear the child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. She was conceived by the Holy Spirit. After Jesus was born, Mary shouldn't even be in the picture anymore.
As Jesus was preaching to people in the streets, His mother, brothers, and sisters, approached. Somebody said, Jesus, your mother, brothers, and sisters are here to speak with you (they were probably wondering what on earth He was doing). Jesus replied, "My mother, brothers, and sisters are those that do the will of my Father."

Oh, and the words,
"at least 5000 words maximum" makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever, lol.

Thanks for your honest reply Xcrunner. May God Bless you richly. I think that you demonstrate well the type of person I spoke about that I will not debate! All serious inquiries who may really want to debate this Christian truth and be curious about the Biblical and historical reasons for this Catholc dogma and not just be out to bash the other side like Xcrunner is doing are welcome to make a serious proposal to me.
May the Lord bless all of us.:liturgy:

ok here are my thoughts, i will not be able to do alot of back and forth, because i will not have access to a computer again until saturday. mary was a Godly woman but not divine. she was born with original sin just like all other humans, except Jesus since he is God. if mary was sinless she could have made it to heaven by her own grace, and would not have needed a savior. there was no prophecy that i have read that pointed to her need to be sinnless, only that she would be a young girl (virgin). also she died...and the wages of sin is death

Hi, thanks for writing in. You had very good questions. You sound like a good thinker and a good Christian. If you would like we can look at the answers to those good questions you asked me and more from a biblical and logical point of view in formal debate on the Immaculate conception. If you would like to do this please let me know and we can set up this debate. Its ok if you will only be able to be around a computer every week or so. As long as you will be able to respond at least every 7 days or so thats fine. Let me know and we can set this up. After all that is what this thread is all about!

It will be enlightening for both of us. Debate when done in a prayerful respectful way can be very fruitful for both sides. In Christian debate no one should ever say anything like "Your going to hell". We need to judge doctrines and not souls. God judges souls. I feel that God will use this to educate people further on the non-Catholic objections to our dogma and it will educate the non-Catholic Christians as to the biblical and historical reasons why Catholic believe this dogma. Debates should always be done with alot of prayer preceding and during the debate. The Holy Spirit must guide us. Ultimately neither I nor you can convert one another, thats the Holy Spirit's job. But what we can do through debate is remove confusion and answer questions one may have about this issue. Then we both must pray and reflect and allow God to guide us. In the next day or two I will talk with one of the mods and see if we can st this up. I will be in contact with you to let you know how this is done. If you like you may check out the other debates to get an idea of how this works.
