I buy some things on ebay. I am going to be selling things on ebay in the months to come. I have decided to get rid of all of my wedding stuff and consider it all from my "first" marriage with no more place in my home.
I am sure to get a better price at Ebay then I would in a consignment shop or yard sale. There is a business here in my small city that will do all the work for me. I just take the items to them and discuss my bottom line when it comes to price. (They also said they will research similar items so that I know what will most likely sell.) What is great is that they will box up and mail the items for me so I don't have to have shipping stuff messing up my house. Those little foam peanuts are very messy.
I bought Kool-Aid on ebay yesterday. I can't find the "Invisibles" version in the local stores anymore. I guess they were not a hit with everyone else. But I love them. I can mix it with Splenda and thin them out by half and it is like flavored water at a very tiny price but the taste is better. I am sensitive to food dyes so the invisibles are perfect for me.
I also buy stuff at Amazon.com a lot. I bought a protein supplement from them that I can't get locally. I am going to be selling some books on Amazon. I have done that before. I sold most of my protestant spiritual books that way. It is not much of a profit, but it was more then I would get at yard sale.
I don't buy used clothing on ebay or used electronics. I have been burned with these things. I bought a used computer game that didn't work and the seller said he "couldn't understand why." I also bought some used clothes and when they came they were yellowed with age and unwearable.
I also have been trying to buy things locally to improve the local economy. However, the stuff I want is often not available here.

Kool-Aid on ebay? Sweet! Maybe they will have my favorite kind that they don't make anymore! :D
I asked because I have never used eBay, but I am now unemployed. Mom suggested that I clean out all the stuff in the storage building and sell it on eBay for my new job... So that's whwat I am working on doing.
Buying local rocks. Even if not buying actual local stuff, even just shopping at a local store is good. :D

I know that you need a digital camera which I don't own. THis is why I am giving my stuff to someone else to sell for me.
Ebay has instructions to follow on how to sell. But there are even more instructions in a book I saw (but didn't buy) called "Ebay for Dummies". (You are NOT a dummy... it is just the title.)
Basically, the steps are:
1. Take a good picture or more of the item.
2. Research Ebay for similar products and see how they are described and priced. Sometimes you can't see the price though. Try looking at similar items that have sold had for how much.
3. Set a reserve price. This is the minimum price you want or you won't sell.
4. Get registered as a seller on ebay. I am not sure but I think that you need some account to have money sent to. You might be able to have money sent to a paypal account instead of your bank.
5. List the item, describe it, etc.
6. Be prepared to handle the shipping of the item early. BTW, unsalted or buttered popcorn is a great eco friendly padding. So is a layer of white newsprint and newspapers. Styrofoam can be recycled in my area so that is possible but I would make it a last choice.
7. I don't get notices regularly from ebay so you would need to check there yourself and not count on an email from them if it sold.

I have a digital camera I am selling, we can just skip eBay and do it over here :) As a matter of fact, I got two Sony Cybershots!

I recently quit eBay. Between the fees for eBay listings, the PayPal fees, and shipping, you're better off selling it in a yard sale, plus you can deal with cash and not bouncy checks.

Write me the specs on the cameras and the cost. If you have a link to a similar one that would be fantastic.
I am really short on money until September though so I couldn't buy it until then.
Do me a favor, write me about the camera over at Desert Calling. I get way too many pm's here staff related that I might lose track of yours. Nicole knows how to get me at DC.
