Have any of you gardeners ever put coffee grounds at the base of your tomato plants and if so, what has been the result? This is the second year in a row I have done this and my tomato plants are growing like weeds. I put the coffee grounds at the bases of my pepper plants and cucumber plants as well. It did not seem to help the pepper plants at all, but the cucumber plants have spread out over about a 10 square foot area so it seems to have helped them as well.

My father is a big time gardener, at the restaurant he asks the waitresses to throw out the coffee grinds in a serperate bin, where he takes them and uses them in his garden. They work great!

This is the second year in a row that I have used coffee grinds in my garden and both times they have worked great. Last year I had weed like tomato plants that were simply huge and lasted well into October. This year my tomato plants and cucumbers are huge and the coffee grounds even gave my newly planted rose bushes a major kick start!

My priest said he put epsom salt under his in the hole when he planted them and they grew really fast and tall. He said he got the tip from some Amish guy...

I have never heard of that, but the coffee grounds are full of nitrogen and nitrogen is plant food.

You can go to Starbucks after the days rush and ask for grounds they usually have them boxed up nicely with a sticker that says grounds for the garden and they're all too happy for you to cart them off for free. Boy did my garden smell greatr the two times I did that. I think it's good for the tomatoes as well as my asparagus. It would take me a year to get that many grounds.:)

My fiance likes to drink coffee made fresh from pods, so every time she drinks coffee I have her save the pod for my garden.
