Hello all! I'm in bad need for a new bible as I only have a NIV version (yikes I know) Should I bu the OSB now or wait for the EOB to come out?

I would say get the OSB now. Then get the EOB after it's published. That's my plan (I already have the OSB).

But I have heard many bad things about the OSB.

Like its Protestantism decked out in the trappings of Orthodoxy and the KJV is the NT translation and the notes are sub par and the septuagint is not represented correctly.

It has been endorsed by Metropolitans of both the Greek and Antiochian churches. Also, in my personal experience with it (which is largely non-academic) I found it to be rather enlightening, and nothing like the protestant study Bibles (and I should know, anything tied to protestantism or, even remotely resembling it leave a very bad taste in my mouth.) I dunno, I plan on picking up the EOB when it comes out as well. I want to see how they compare. Anyway, even with many of the criticisms, I've read many responses to those criticisms and frankly, there are people everywhere that are determined to be dissatisfied with everything.

My advice (which you are welcome to take or not) is to pick it up and give it a spin yourself, reserve judgment until you've actually tried it.

Yea, most of the criticism I've read is from the schismatic and more-Orthodox-than-thou types. The OSB is good. Not perfect, but good.

If you still want to wait for the EOB, that's cool. You can always read the EOB NT online, or print it out while you wait for it to be published.

Thanks, I think I will pick it up and give it a read.

Good point, thanks for the advice.

If you want really perfect, you could just wait for the Last Judgement and get it all from our Lord Himself.... failing that, you could just get the Bible translation that your priest recommends...
God bless.

Oh, don't be so negative all the time. Look: the criticisms have a point. Their criticisms of the NIV are even more on target and it is a more critically-flawed text than the OSB. Have you really noticed the theological flaws in the NIV [not the linguistic]? Are you reading at a level where it really becomes apparent? The bottom line is that owning and reading the OSB will be beneficial to you and won't lead you astray. It has its imperfections. Frankly, I'd take the Oxford Study Bible over it - I have plenty of Orthodox commentary on the Bible elsewhere.
