Do you have a favorite parsha or story from the Torah or
Tanach that you find particularly meaningful?

I have always loved the story of Joseph. It has great drama,
suspense, family dynamics. It is wonderfully written to keep
you wanting more.

And I love the final message- that although we may not understand
why something is happening, it is all from HaShem and all for
our best.....we need to have faith in Him whenever we face
troubling times.

I'm partial to the story of Moses, possibly because I've had a long term love affair with the movie the "The Ten Commandments". ^_^ These days I love to compare and contrast the movie with scripture.

I find Moses to be humble and He fears God, but in the end he ends up standing up for himself and for his people.

Talk about contrast.....compare the power voice of Charleton Heston in the movie with how Moshe really talked in the Torah

I find Moses to be humble and He fears God, but in the end he ends up standing up for himself and for his people.

David and Yonatan. What a great story of true friendship.

A close second place is the story of Jacob and Rachel. Incidentally, it's one of my wife's favourites too. ;)

Okay you are going to laugh at me, but it's Ehud the left-handed judge (Judges 3). Here's why. My dad is left-handed, my dear hubby is left-handed, and in this story HaShem used a left-handed person!

Here's the story a little: Israel forgot the previous judge and was sinful so that HaShem allowed the king of Moab to rule over them. Well Israel come to its senses and cried out and He sent them a deliverer--and this time is was someone who was LEFT-HANDED. (BTW--did you ever notice that the ones chosen by HaShem to be judges were not always the tallest or best looking but rather a woman, a young guy, a left-handed person and so on?) So the king of Moab was very obese, and Ehud made a dagger that was double sharp and had no handle, and he strapped it onto his RIGHT thigh. When he got to the king's place they searched him assuming he was right handed, so they searched his left leg and never even looked on his right one. Then he went before the king and told him the word from the Lord, and the king would not listen--so Ehud stabbed him with the little dagger. It was so sharp and the king was so fat that the fat folded in around the dagger! And Ehud left the chamber and locked the door when he left--so that he got away!

Then he went straight to Israel and said, "Come on! The Lord has given us Moab!" and then went and killed like 10,000 men from Moab and Moab was servant to Israel--and under Ehud there was peace for like 100 years.

It's my favorite story because HaShem uses even our WEAKNESSES for His purpose--and cuz I love left-handed people!

I was born left handed, but forcebly trained by an idiotic school teacher to be right handed. So I can definitly sympathize with that story.

My favorite story is Moses... because I loved the drmam of the "Ten Commandments" especially that part where out of the whirling dazzle would splash against the stone the ten commandments. I always thought that was so cool.

Me too! But it was an uncle who did it. And yes, I'm ambidextrous. I do everything but write and eat with my left hand. I have a horrible sense of directions and I blame it on this. ^_^

There are so many it is hard to decide. I am pretty partial to the story of Balaam and the talking donkey and one the atheists like to bring up also. Balaam and Balak are also mentioned in our book of Revelation more or less confirming the event.

[Rotherham] Numbers 22:28 And Yahweh opened the mouth of the ass,--and she said unto Balaam--What have I done to thee, that thou hast smitten me, these three times? 29 And Balaam said unto the ass, Surely thou hast been making sport of me,--Would there had been a sword in my hand, for, now, would I have slain thee. 30 Then said the ass unto Balaam--Am not I thine own ass on which thou hast ridden all thy life, until this day? Have I, been wont, to do unto thee, thus? And he said, Nay!

Reve 2:14 But I am having against of thee a few, that thou are having there ones-holding the teaching of Balaam, who taught to-the Balak to be casting a snare before the sons of Israel, to be eating idol sacrifices and to prostitute.

I have to admit... that's like my second favorite story. Can you IMAGINE where you'd have to be in your life for HaShem to use a DONKEY to scold you?

Okay on a serious note I actually also love the whole book of Hosea because when I was going through my ex-husband's infidelity it felt like someone who understood. Hosea was a decent fella (a prophet) and HaShem told him to marry a prostitute -AND- to honor his marriage with her even though she wasn't honoring it at all. I can identify with a lot of that book!

Kinda sorta. mostly I use my right because its easier, but I can use my left for everything except writing and eating. With those though, especially when tired, I will pick up the pen/utensil with my left hand and put it in my right.

I blame my atrocious handwriting on that (and my dyslexia).
