Here is how I cebrate it this year - very unusual.
Since I volunteer with the Gideons International, I gathered about 7,000 NTs, organazed a team and 7 of us and we are scheduled to distribute them this Friday afternoon 1 PM at the 9/11 site.
This September would be 7 years since 9/11.
Please pray for us so things go right. :)
Thanks, :)

Neat thing you are doing, Ed. :)
We had our celebration last night. Our town had fireworks, and our neighbors had a party. Our son and wife came up for it. We might hang out with some other friends today.
It's great to be part of this country. God bless America, and draw her back to Him.

Blessings on your activities, Ed. We seldom do anything on holidays, mostly rest/sleep.
My older brother's birthday is today, but I have only seen him three times since 1991. So I will send an internet greeting.

Great idea Ed. Years ago on the holidays I would volunteer to install kerosene heaters or fans for the low income families through the Larry Rice Ministries. I miss doing that.
I was going go to see the kids/gkids but I don't want to run into the "amateur weekend warriors" on the road. It's 170 mile round trip.

Our town has a festival going on right now and last year was the big parade. My daughter ran the mile race that started off the parade and I went to watch. I don't care to go see fireworks really...once you've seen em in Chicago, no other city compares ;) hehe
Besides, my poor doggie is terrified of the loud sounds and completely panics! I'll be spending the night in the basement trying to console her.

Same here, Lamb. Our old boy is terrified of pops and bangs and even though he doesn't hear like he used to, enough sound gets through that he needs consoling.
Great way to spend the day, Ed. Prayers for a fruitful day. I will watch Wimbledon (vamanos, RAFA!!!!) , clean house, wash the dog and cook. With all the rain, it's hard to make plans for much else. At least that's one of my excuses for being a anti-social. :)

OK. Just came back. It was hot and fun.
Distributed only 2800 despite of the large crowds.
NYC is becoming more and more liberal, expecially among the sophisticated white crowds and punkish types of youth. :)
So, I found a "catch phrase" in addition to the "Free Bibles!"
I was saying: "Happy Independence Day. Free Bibles".
The intellectuals and punkish ones suddenly liked the word "Independence" and started taking the Scriptures. :):)
It was a Fun and exhausting day. :)
Happy Independence Day. May the Lord bless you all.
Ed :)

I think volunteering is a very good promotion of Christ, especially in daily needs that people have.
When I became a believer I started off more of a theologian. :) It is good, but not enough.
I was looking at these Episcopelians who volunteered in soup kitchens and secretly did not approve of them - LEARN THE BIBLE - grrrrr.
Now that I reflect on my inner attitude, I feel a bit embarassed.
These homeless men and women that ate there knew that these Episcopelians were Christians, humble and cheefrul men and women that served them in their daily needs.
Interesting things this Christianity is. :)
Thanks, :)

Sitting home alone. Hope and Jeremiah went camping with Hope's sister. I am lecturing this sunday, so I couldn't go. However, that means I also have to host coffee hour by myself.

My family had a fairly quiet 4th. We went to Mom & Dad's & spent the afternoon on lawn chairs watching Tiger play and just visiting. I actually had the day off!!! (I work a lot of holidays). Then we went out to supper with Grandma and Grandpa for pizza--Tiger's choice. Then fireworks when it got dark.

Oh, no problem. :)
Most of the people at shelters do not know a difference between sola scriptura and their left elbow.
All they know is these are Christians and believe in Jesus Christ for their salvation.
Thanks, :)

I had to work, then hubby took me out to dinner. We sat around until about 9:30, then took Peyton (our little doggie) to see his first fireworks ever. He hated it, so he won't be going with us next year. ;)

Howdy, HippiePoser! Don't know that I've seen you around these here parts. But nice to see someone from Minnesota. I grew up in the northern part of that state, right after the last ice age. :D

Hi filosofer! I haven't done much hanging around with the Lutheran folk until recently (I'm not *technically* Lutheran yet). Born and raised MN here, so when you say "last ice age", I tend to think you mean around April 26th! :D Anyways, thanks for the warm welcome! :)

ok, so if you were born & raised in MN, doesn't that mean there is Lutheran in your blood??

Actually, my whole family is Catholic! In the town I was raised in, you were either Lutheran or Catholic. We had a HUGE Catholic church, and about 3 or 4 smaller Lutheran ones. But I've learned the error of my ways, and I'm going to a Lutheran church now, working on becoming a member. :)

Had a barbeque at one of hubby's sisters and spent the rest of the time at the lake, we bought a camper last year at a lot at a marina set up on a leased lot, ended up buying a mobile home there and ended up selling the camper over the 4th weekend
