Yep, only discussion can lead back to His Word, which is the truth.

Truth is self evident to all but those who are in darkness or blind. In these cases debate may serve as the catalyst to revelation. But the truth was there all aong.
Debate (or study, or teaching) just brings it to light.
I like what Paul said in Ephesians 1
Ephesians 1:17-18
". . .that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; . . ."
Here the eyes are dim until the revelation is given. The revelation did not create the truth. The truth was already there. This is the faith process in a nutshell. Faith does not create truth. Faith comes as a result of truth being revealed to us. Faith is not a quantity, it is the result of revelation.

Humans tend to puff themselves up imagining others do not see simply because others do not see what they do. Simply not true.

No it does not. It bes full of dirty little tricks and lies such as the absolutely FALSE notion that the first person to become upset means their point bes wrong and the other person's bes right. That bes the biggest load of absolute horse puckey ever invented by rotted minds. Feeling strongly -- or the lack of it -- has nothing to do with whether a notion or premise bes correct or incorrect. That bes just one example. Another being that if you can lawyer someone into a corner with words to where they cannot adequately answer your crap it means they have "lost" which means, again, that your point bes right but theirs bes wrong. RUBBISH!!! It simply means your ability to construct clever arguments and/or your emotional capacity to endure the harassment exceeds theirs. It does not mean your notion/premise bes right and theirs wrong.
ALL debate establishes bes who can last longer flinging words and clever sounding arguments at the other and brainwash onlookers into thinking they bes the one that sees things correctly. It all bes hogwash.

Oh well, I always thought "debate" was "reasoning", such as when our Lord reasoned with those philosophers who thought only of themselves and the others thought only living in harmony with nature. I guess it's something like those who post on these forums.

whatever. no, most debate doesn't even come close to viable reasoning, just snark disguised as glib erudition.
