...depressing! Flood damage with folks losing their homes and animals suffering, people dying. Then there is the economy - yikes! Will it get worse before it gets better? Gas prices - enuf said! Salmonella in another crop (wasn't it lettuce last year? Or spinach?

It's depressing and heartbreaking and sad.

How are you dealing with it?

Yup, it sucks. But I cannot say I am surprised. I believe we are in the end times (but I am not necessarily saying it's going to happen any day now mind you) so I simply take comfort in the fact that much of what I see was prophesied thousands of years ago and God is in full control.

Yeah, one day I came to see that it's always going to be something. I read in the news about brain eating amoebas in warm lakes and such. I remember one year it was spinach, one time it was mad cow disease or something.

Speaking of tomatoes, is anyone eating any fresh ones? there is a farmers market here but I'm a little paranoid about going. I really miss tomatoes.

Yeah, the floods are annoying. I live in Iowa, so I know a few people who had to evacuate. Fortunately my area wasn't hit very badly at all. A few parks got flooded, but drained in a couple days.

I have to agree with dead2self.....I am not surprised by the events taking place either, but I too take comfort in knowing that God is still in total control and always will be.

That's why we need to elect Obama as the next U.S. President.

All of these things are GW Bush and the Republican party's fault.

If we elect McCain, it's just going to get worse.

Only Obama can make things better again.

"And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer...And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword." -Rev. 6:2,4 (KJV)

More so now than at any other time in human history has there been such a lack of peace.

"And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine." -Rev. 6:5-6 (KJV)

I look at todays economy and I see this as being fulfilled.

A co-worker related this story to me several years ago. Seems he was traveling on the interstate in New Jersey. His car broke down and he pulled over to the side. He looked under the hood and was not able to fix it, so he pulled out his cell phone and called a wrecker. While on the phone some guys jumped the fence and ran up to his car and started to strip it while he was standing there. He yells at them and they said to him: "Relax man, you wasn't going to take it all was you?"

"And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." -Mt. 24:12 (KJV)

Another example of this was just in the news the other day. A bus driver was attacked and the people on the bus just sat and watched and didn't once try to help the poor man.

Yep, His word never fails.

But I take courage in knowing that I won't be here when the worst of it all is played out.

It's funny to me that you blame Republicans for natural disasters, bad crops, and even high oil prices. First the most obvious; if you feel like GW Bush and the Republicans are responsible for natural disasters and bad crops than Obama should be the LAST person to be elected president on those grounds, as he is not even a Christian and only God can control our weather. As for oil prices, I am sure Bush is enjoying the money he personally is receiving from these high prices but regardless of who is in power the real power will always be the Oil Companies. They are the largest lobbyists in all of politics and no politician who wants to be in office goes against them. They may tell you that they plan on going against them so you will vote for them but it will not happen. I am not necessarily saying that Obama would be a bad president but don’t vote for him thinking he is going to prevent natural disasters or solve the oil problem.

only God can control our weather.

Evidently you have not investigated the H.A.A.R.P. Project.

HAARP is a scientific endeavor aimed at studying the properties and behavior of the ionosphere, with particular emphasis on being able to understand and use it to enhance communications and surveillance systems for both civilian and defense purposes.

The HAARP program is committed to developing a world class ionospheric research facility consisting of:

The Ionospheric Research Instrument (IRI), a high power transmitter facility operating in the High Frequency (HF) range. The IRI will be used to temporarily excite a limited area of the ionosphere for scientific study.
A sophisticated suite of scientific (or diagnostic) (http://www.haarp.alaska.edu/haarp/diag.html) instruments that will be used to observe the physical processes that occur in the excited region.
Observation of the processes resulting from the use of the IRI in a controlled manner will allow scientists to better understand processes that occur continuously under the natural stimulation of the sun.
Scientific instruments installed at the HAARP Observatory will be useful for a variety of continuing research efforts which do not involve the use of the IRI but are strictly passive. Among these studies include ionospheric characterization using satellite beacons, telescopic observation of the fine structure in the aurora, and documentation of long-term variations in the ozone layer.

They claim to be able to point the anntenna to a certain area, excite the ions in atmosphere, and control the weather over that region.

Now whether its true of not, I can't say.

If I'm not mistaken, it was in the news last week, but wqasn't it a Democratic controled Congress that vetoed a bill that would tax the top 3 "Big Oil" companies on the windfall profits they made this year?

There is no way that the "Big 3 Oil" companies can justify raising gas prices to $4 - $5/gallon and still make a $350 billion profit in the first quarter of this year. Thats 350,000,000,000 above and beyong expenditures, grants, write-offs, etc.

It really does not matter who sits up in the White House, they are all crooked! And its really the "Rhodes Society" who controls the world's economy.

If you read C.S. Lewis' work "The Perelanda" it will amaze you just how long ago things were planned out.

There are even details that go back as far as 1880 and a certain society that actually planned the first World War, the Stock Market crash of 1929, the Second World War, and other events.

Think on those things.

Here is quick quote from the book:

I don't know much about what people call the religious view of life,' said Ransom, wrinkling his brow. 'You see, I'm a Christian. And what we mean by the Holy Ghost is not a blind, inarticulate purposiveness.'

'My dear Ransom,' said Weston, 'I understand you perfectly. I have no doubt that my phraseology will seem strange to you, and perhaps even shocking.

[...] But [...] believe me, we are talking about exactly the same thing.'

'I'm not at all sure that we are.'

'That, if you will permit me to say so, is one of the real weaknesses of organised religion -- that adherence to formulae, that failure to recognize one's own friends.

'But this is very foolish,' said the Un-man. 'Do you not know who I am?'

'I know what you are,' said Ransom. 'Which of them doesn't matter.'
'And you think, little one,' it answered, that you can fight with me? You think He will help you, perhaps? Many thought that. I've known Him longer than you, little one. They all think He's going to help them -- till they come to their senses screaming recantations too late in the middle of the fire, mouldering in concentration camps, writhing under saws, jibbering in mad-houses, or nailed on to crosses. Could He help Himself?' -- and the creature suddenly threw back its head and cried in a voice so loud that it seemed the golden sky-roof must break, 'Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani.'
And the moment it had done so, Ransom felt certain that the sounds it had made were perfect Aramic of the first century. The Un-man was not quoting; it was remembering. These were the very words spoken from the Cross, treasured through all those years in the burning memory of the outcast creature which had heard them, and now brought forward inhideous parody; the horror made him momentarily sick.
