Why is it in the baptist churches that people are keen to invite you to stuff in church, then don't really talk to you once you do come to church/join___/come to an event?

It takes two to communicate. Next time you attend an event, start up a conversation with someone yourself. :)

I don't think this problem is exclusive to baptists. I've visited or been a member of many other denominations that have the same problem.
You have to overlook it and make your own way. And yes...it can be difficult.

I often do initiate conversations, but if I don't greet people initially then they won't say anything to me.

I don't want to sound like I'm picking on the baptists. I've been COG mostly before and I always had intimacy in sunday school and everything was wonderful. I felt really bonded to those people. But we've moved to AZ from the east coast and I think all religions must be different from east to west...
