View Full Version : Our brother Jim

As many of you know from a recent thread that Jim had started, he has been having health problems. At this time, Jim desperately needs our Lord's strength. He is so ill that he can no longer speak on the phone. It's been 2 days since I last talked with him.
Jim is a very private person and I asked him yesterday in an email if I could request prayers for him on the forum. All I got today was an email that just said "ok".
Jim has always been such a kind and dear Christian brother to me. My husband, son and I have visited his family at their home. Jim keeps his troubles to himself, and never wants to be a bother. I ask that we all pray for him in that God would give him strength both in body and faith. I spoke with his son and they are very concerned for him.
God bless each of you, as we pray for our dear brother. :groupray:

They do know what's wrong with him. He is being treated. We just need to wait things out.
In person, Jim is just like he is here on the forum....kind and friendly, and strong in his beliefs in God. :) The Lord has truly blessed him with a deep faith.

Another update on Jim....and praise God, he has taken a bit of a turnaround! I had gotten an email from Jim's son early this afternoon that there was no change, and his dad was still very ill. But this evening, Jim is feeling slightly better and is able to have a few ice chips, which is more than he's had in days.
I was able to speak with Jim for a few moments. He is still very weak, but sounded better than he did a few days ago. I told him we, in TCL, are praying for his recovery. He was so grateful...I detected a little smile through the phone, cause he said "really"? :)
Jim is still very ill, and he needs strength that only our Lord can offer. May Jesus hold him close. :prayer:

Jim called today after he had some tests. Because of his condition, he cannot have anything by mouth to eat or drink. He will be in the hospital for quite some time, on IV's. He is very weak. He does not sound like Jim right now, nor does he feel like the old Jim. But at least they know what's all going on now, and are starting a bit of a different treatment.
He is so appreciative to all those here in TCL who are praying for him. It really lifts his spirits to know that fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, care about him so much.

WooHoo! I heard him laugh for the first time in more than a week.
We spoke about how the Lord is sustaining him in this trial and how grateful he is to Jesus for being with him, no matter what the outcome. It was just so neat to hear a little strength in his voice.

I don't understand this fever thing.
Just recently, my sister's neighbor George was in a hospital for few weeks. He is in his 70s. He completely lost his appetite for solid food.
And he was complaining to me earlier in the year that he is losing his appetite.
He also has fever once a day.
I was bringing him milkshakes to the hospital that he nursed for the whole night. He loved them.
That's as solid of a food as he ate there. He was intraveniously fed.
Doctors did all types of tests, excluded cancer, excluded this and that.
His liver does not function that well, they did biopsy, but no cancer.
They can't seem to figure it out.
He was being transferred to a nursing home last night. He is so weak he cannot walk. They have a rehab there.
From what I see, hear and guess Jim has similar symptoms ... do not know how his liver is.
Something is weird.
Maybe Jim's and George's symptoms are identical.

Now I feel really bad about staying to just the LCMS sub-forum. Had I even looked in on this one I'd have seen this thread. How's Jim doing now? Anybody know?
Seajoy, white count normal??? This sounds really serious indeed. However, my friend Paula's husband was diagnosed with Lukemia and given six months to a year. He died from it six years later after walking into the hospital because dinner didn't agree with him. What I'm trying to say is that this kind of thing can be managed successfully.
Heavenly father please keep your servant Jim in the palm of your hand. He's in need of your continuing care and watchfullness. I realize that we, through the Lord Adam and Lady Eve, created these problems and illnesses. Still, your lovingkindness has repeatedly been displayed through the ages. When you were here amongst us as Jesus, you wept over the entombing of Lazerus, you took pity on the widow's son, even healing the gentile woman's daughter. Have mercy on your servant Jim, and keep this malady at bay.
This and all things we ask in the only way we can, through your son Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you, one God, now and forever, Amen.

Jim is a gem. I'm the one that "twisted his arm" to become a staffer some time ago when I was one of the 3 Protestant Supervisors... I got to work with him some - in a couple of different ways, and his love, spiritual maturity, gentleness, wisdom and sincerity just is such a blessing. He was one of the few staffers that I actually spoke to (via phone, never in person) and we sometimes talked about personal issues, too. He was a brother - but also a bit of a "dad" to me, and I appreciate that A LOT.
Jim - you are in my prayers. I hope you are better soon, and back to all the things that need you and people that love you.

Poor Jim - his fever spiked to 104 during the night. He now has an infection. No going home today. His wife had to go back to the doctor concerning her eye, so she is having a time of it too. Continued prayers for our brother and sister.
Infections would do it. He should stay in the hospital few days after fever goes away, just to make sure.
I am praying for his wife'e recovery, so Jim could come back home.
(I also have a secret prayer concerning Jim. I'll share it if it happens).
Thanks,
Ed

praying for Jim. Lord, I ask that any spirit of affliction attacking him would be bound in JESUS' name. I rebuke it in Jesus' name, you may not return to him or his wife, go to some place uninhabited, in Jesus' name.
Lord, please come and fill Jim with your Holy Spirit. Please cover any open wounds, cracks, or openings. I want Jim healed and whole, in Jesus' name Lord. AmenI like that prayer! I'd thought about attempting to word a prayer like that, but I was afraid I would sound too pompous or far out. That was beautifully worded.

Jim's fever went down a little today. He may get to go home in two days.
I've sure had it with all this hospital stuff.

Hello everyone and thank you for all your prayers. I am finally home after 18 days in the hospital. Its almost 9:30Pm and I'm kind of tuckered out.
Special thanks to Seajoy for starting this thread, and many special thanks for all your continued prayers.
I thank Seajoy for respecting my privacy and not telling what the problem was, but since you have all been so supportive I'll just tell you I had a really bad case of colitis and then also another infection on top of that. Thanks be to The Lord, for He has granted me healing and strength. My wife also is seeing some healing in her eye. She was a real gem through out all this. Even though she was suffering herself she spent much time at my side and taking care of many of my needs.
I still have a few weeks of recovery to regain all my strength, but am well in my way.
Thank you also for the very nice cards, plants annd letters. I'll try to get out special thank you's as I get time. :)
Its good to be back home again and amongst so many friends. Thank you all.:clap::wave:

Well actually, what's the worst that could happen? You die and go to heaven? If the worst thing is that you get to go to heaven, then I think that everhthing is going to be OK.

Thank you all. I am very happy to be able to be back with you. It was a very long 2-1/2 weeks not being able to chat with any of you, but I am truely thankful to Seajoy and Rad for your calls. It was my only contact with you all, and it meant so much to me.
I'd also like to thank you again for your cards and letters. It was so nice to hear from you, but now we have a challange before us!!!!
We need to come up with something interesting to discuss so we can keep this board hopping.
Perhaps we could invite some of our EO or Catholic friends in for a little light hearted deabte? :D

Thank you all for your prayers. My wife is starting to get better, but still has a lot of pain in her eye, it will likely take many more weeks before its healed, and there is a possibility that the pain may be permenant.
I got a call from my doctor this morning. A test I had run earlier this week came back good, meaning I am still on the mend. He said the problems I was having are from a second anti-biotic I had to take for a seperate infection. Since I no longer have to take the 2nd one the main one will hopefully clean everything up. It sure makes me tired and weak though
