You must fulfill a role in the church. Then you must decide. Seek out others. What are your church finances like? Can you help there? What are you doing as far as empowering the laity in your church? Are you a Eucharistic Minister? Is your diocese subject to scrutiny because of accused pedophilic priests? Is so, how are you helping your pastor deal with it? What are you doing for the education of youth in your parish?

These are the things that you should be doing before you prevail yourself to song in the mass.

Our Catholic Charismatic Prayer Group sees lukewarm Catholics get red hot and then we send them into service in the Church.
So, it can work both ways. I urge you to check out the Charismatic Mass. The service and the giving is one of the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and a sign that you are on fire for the Lord. The Charismatic Renewal stirs your fire into a raging flame of love. At least that has been my experience of how the Holy Spirit is working.

the service of the Church is to stop the bleeding- saving Her from hemorrhaging from the sexual abuse crisis, assisting in the financial crisis of many dioceses and parishes due to financial impoverishment because of the crisis and bearing down on the hierarchy to allow changes and to allow change within itself. That is my fire and the fire of many others and I can assure you, we are empowered by the Holy Spirit.

I truly believe you are.
The CCR is only one way, Holy Mother Church is huge and The Holy Spirit blows as He will.

but lest you diverge, tend your flock. Expunge the pain of many, many predatory priests, hold the heirarchy accountable, channel your energy to the body that is decaying...lest your "spirit channeling" will be a mere distraction to the dying body at hand.

I can not tell you this...you know it already.

Protinus,
Before we go much further with this, I must remind you this is a no debate forum.
This is very important but I will also mention that we do allow sincere discussion.
Discussion is good to help folks understand the CCR.
However, I see you are on staff and you know that I will have to make the decision along with the other Mods here what is debate and what is sincere discussion.

Is that ok with you?

Back to the OP...

A Charismatic Mass will follow the same liturgy to which you are accustomed. Within the liturgy, there are times allloted for "psalms or hymns" such as at the processional, the gloria, etc. In a "non-charismatic" mass, usually just one song is sung. At a Charismatic mass, you may find that they sing several songs during these times. If it is a healing mass, during the intercessions there will be anointing of the sick (again, this is liturgically proper). While the priest, and possibly a few who are assisting him, are praying for the sick the congregation may sing or pray.

Other than that, and the type of music (which is often upbeat during the processional/gloria) you probably won't see any differences at all liturgically.

As to other differences-- you may notice people lifting their hands at times (primarily while singing) as a sign of worship/surrender to the Lord. This is basically the same as is done during the Our Father.

While you may see other forms of worship during a prayer group... mass is mass, and as such the liturgy is followed pretty closely.

:wave:Hi, I went to a charismatic Mass recently and wrote about my experience with it :) here it is: http://christianforums.com/showthread.php?t=7236813
maybe that answers some of your questions? :)
The structure of the Mass is the same, the music is indeed different, and there are people using their charismatic gifts - like praying in tongues, etc, but it's all very organized and quiet and peaceful, not chaotic..and nothing there made me uncomfortable.
If you do end up going, I hope you enjoy it

God bless!
