My boyfriend gave me a chrismation gift last weekend. It was a few weeks late - with good reason. Honestly - it was the sweetest gift that he could have gotten me...

As you may have read on previous threads - there are few and far between icons of my patron saint - St Laura of Cordoba. Knowing that I had been unable to get a print of St Laura - since the only existing icon of St Laura was in England - my boyfriend decided to commission an icon of St Laura!

He gave me the icon last weekend. It just had been finished that previous week by the iconographer. It is beautiful...It is my first handpainted icon - and I will treasure it always. And now I have an icon of St Laura!

:) I'm really happy about this! I never expected this - and feel very special that he decided to do that...

I'll post a pic of it in a couple weeks. It wasn't quite dry yet - and I was coming home on the train - so he was going to bring it to my house when he drives back to PA (in a few weeks)

Once your Icon is with you , you will have to ask your priest to Bless it .

Last time I gave some icons as a gift [ yes they were hand written :) ] they were kept in the Altar for 40 days and then returned to me so I could pass them to my young friend - he had an Icon of the Kazan Mother of God for his Ordination to the Diaconate and a year later he got the Icon of Christ for his Ordination to the Priesthood . My SF was very upset at having to return them to me - he would have liked to keep them in his Altar .
