While wathing a show on Oberammergau on the Travel Channel they were discussing the Passion Play which is put on every 10 years. There in the theater for the play on center stage is a rather large Pantocrator!

Oberammergau for those of you who do not know, is in the very southern part of (Roman Catholic) Bavaria, not far from the Austrian border.

Could this be an icon that was removed from an Orthodox Church by unbelievers and put on the black market for sale?
London had an auction of Holy Icons and other items that were removed from churches.

When I went to France I was very surprised to see an icon of the Theotokos in the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris (although it was hidden away in a small corner).

We have been there to tour the theater. We didn't get to see the play (wrong year) - but we were fascinated by the props and clothing that were 100s of years old.

I've seen things like icons on projection screens whenever I've image googled for icons, esp. icons of Christ. Maybe they were passion plays, too.

I've been there for a Passion Play but it's been so long ago that I honestly don't remember... The 1990 one... I was more interested in the trip itself and the cute guys... ehem...
